Please come at the heart area, hirdaa, a spot behind our heart, towards the center. It is also connected with the spine.

sochai soch na hova-ee jay sochee lakh vaar.

The very first utterance in Gurbani, Japji Sahib: He says that just by thinking, one can never even estimate who I am and what is this whole creation.

Even if we stop speaking and become silent outside, the noise in the interior cannot be stopped.

Please remain focused at the heart area.

Yesterday, Gurmail Singh Ji Dhaliwal, who has been categorizing various Deewans into topics such as how to hear Gurbani, etc., said that what is being talked about Gurbani in deewans now, can only be understood by those who have done sangat for at least 10 years. I was surprised because we are talking about moolmantar and the first paurhree of Japji sahib; we are talking about the the ੳ, ਅ (A,B,C’s). But this is true; God speaks through everyone. If we establish firmly within ourselves that God speaks through everyone then God becomes worried that lest this person say something that is harmful; the other person may not even realize this. To understand ੳ, ਅ , at least 10 years of sangat - now let’s listen to those deewans that Maharaj Ji explained; read those dhaarnaas with a silent inside:

ਮਾਏ ਨੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਅ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ ਐਸ ਮੈਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲੇ

maa-ay nee mayraa jee nahi lagdaa ais maiN day naalay

maa-ay nee maa-ay sanoo ishq nay hath chhuhaa-i-aa

aDhee aDhee raatee, labhaaN nee muhabataaN noo

We will hear those dhaarnaa’s now; we didn’t hear them back then. Even today, we may not hear them completely but we would hear some of it.

Here Maharaj Ji talks about something that can only be understood after passing many classes on this path. Guru Granth Sahib Ji does not start with ੳ, ਅ (A.B.C) in the beginning and ਯ, ਰ, ੜ (X,Y,Z) at the end; worldly education is organized like that. Here, it starts with ੴ , which is very deep; right in the beginning when one hasn’t even learnt the ੳ, ਅ.

I was asking that Maharaj Ji wrote One separately, and OaNkaar separately. OaNkaar represents His creation, and He tells us that He dwells within whatever He creates. Then why did Maharaj Ji separate One and OaNkaar? Why did He separate the creator and the creation when he wrote ੴ ? Because, whatever He creates is time bound; that is going to be destroyed by Him after the given time. Had He written One connected with OaNkaar, with His creation, it would have meant that when the creation dies, when the creation is no more, God will also be no more. That’s why One is separate from OaNkaar; One has been, One is, One is going to be. Period.

Yesterday, we talked about remembrance, that a moment comes when there is a deafening explosion of silence within us and that makes us deaf from the worldly . Please understand this. Our inside becomes so silent that it does not even let our consciousness become available for listening to any worldly talk. You could be in the middle of the world, in a wedding celebration and everyone is dancing, you will remain your true self; you will not hear the loud drums of the world. You will remain in a distant world which is inside and you have gained approval to remain there. Please understand the importance of becoming silent. The second thing Maharaj Ji has talked about is the inside becoming silent. Until our inside becomes silent, we cannot understand anything. That is why we don’t hear anything because there is so much noise inside. The paurhees (stanzas) about hearing come later on but He talks about being silent in the very beginning, that if there is noise within then you cannot hear anything, let alone understand it. The story is so deep.

He says there is no way you can become quiet, you can become silent within, no matter what exercises you do to become silent. Why is silence necessary?

How does the deafening explosion of silence happen? How does one become silent? Yesterday, we understood that it happens by remembering Him. By remembering Him, we feel Him. In Sidh Gosht, Maharaj Ji tells us, you have to surrender yourself. We have heard about surrendering but the rare one understands what it means to surrender.

aavhu sant pi-aariho akath kee karah kahaanee.

karah kahaanee akath kayree kit du-aarai paa-ee-ai.

tan man Dhan sabh sa-up gur ka-o hukam mani-ai paa-ee-ai.

Maharaj Ji says you must become totally silent within to know who you are. You cannot become silent yourself; you have to surrender yourself to Me. But what does surrendering mean?

aap gavaa-ee-ai taa saho paa-ee-ai a-or kaisee chaturaa-ee.

chaturaa-ee - clever intelligence.

One is clever intelligence and then there is innocent intelligence. We become like children. Our intelligence would be innocent. Worldly intelligence is clever and because of what the world has taught us, we have lost the real gems, the innocence.

He says you must surrender in order to become silent and the only way to surrender is to keep hearing the Celestial Music permanently and also feel the Divine light around you. In order to do that, you have to stay within. That’s how we surrender to Him - by keeping hearing the Celestial Music, and feeling Him within, feeling the Divine light. This is how we surrender. We are the consciousness, and when we surrender our consciousness to Him, He imbues that with His love. By keeping hearing the Celestial Music and feeling the light, and His presence, we surrender to Him. This is how we become lodged in His womb and then He’s going to give us birth, which would be re-birth. Through remaining in His womb, through constantly hearing the Celestial Music, feeling the Divine light, we start becoming silent because there is nobody to talk to; talking is prohibited. He says keep hearing.

This is how we become silent, peaceful, serene, still, and in that stillness, in that serenity, in that total silence, our old self dies because we had withdrawn ourselves from that I, which had created her own worlds.

Remaining in the True Guru’s womb, we come out of the world we had created. Since we come out of it, that world is no more; even earlier it was just a dream. Now after re-birth when we see that world, it will seem completely different. When there is a deafening explosion of silence, that is the stage when we are in sunn, in such a deep silence that even the Celestial Music stops playing. One who reaches that stage, Maharaj Ji says it cannot be described.

jay ha-o jaanaa aakhaa naahee kahnaa kathan na jaa-ee

We have to become silent. We can see our habit; how we feel compelled to speak when we are with someone and there is silence. Here in the holy congregation, we know that it is okay to remain in silence when sitting with someone. That would benefit us and the other person and they will understand and respect you instead of becoming nervous.

How to hear the Celestial Music? We have to go back to the old Khajana Darshan’s and listen to all of them. Now, we will understand those deewaan’s; we will feel as if we are hearing them for the first time. Yesterday, a son of mine showed me his notes from previous deewan’s and they were written so beautifully, in sahaj; it was clear that those notes are a very big treasure for them that they would have darshan of throughout life. Beautiful paper was used; each and everything from the deewan’s was captured. God doesn’t bestow these blessings based on age; it is based on one’s thirst, hunger, passion.

Let’s have darshan of moolmantar.

ik oaNkaar satnaam kartaa purakh nirbhau nirvair akaal moorat ajoonee saibhaNg gurprasaad

What is the next word? Jap. What does jap mean?

We start overthinking that jap must mean something very complicated. It’s very easy. Jap means to remember again and again. In other words, also called simran. See, He had revealed everything in moolmantar, right at the beginning. If we just keep reciting without awareness, then nothing is going to happen. But if we recite when we are awake then it’s different. One who hears that Maharaj Ji is asking me to jap, they will be well on their way.

mat vich ratan javaahar maanik jay ik gur kee sikh sunee.

Look at the precious pearls and diamonds that are hidden in Gurbaanee. They are not even hidden; He placed them right in front of us but only the most fortunate ones see them.

Jap; and jap what?

aad sach jugaad sach.

hai bhee sach naanak hosee bhee sach.

Remember that it is all God; you are also God; everything is God! If you are hungry to see your true self, that you are something so high, so precious; God in which we walk, sit, bathe, play, sleep, He is so humble, so egoless that He doesn’t even let us know that He is. We never got to know Him; never felt Him that the one I am walking in, is God. The Divine is one, inside and outside. Inner Divine is the divine presence that we feel within and then there is the divine power in the entire universe. A point comes when a storm comes and the outer consciousness and inner consciousness become one. The boundaries which were set by our body are destroyed and you become the universe. Then you are no longer the body. People would see you as a body, but you will not be the body.

In many letters, the question is asked that Maharaj Ji says:

ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਚਲਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ

hukam rajaa-ee chalnaa naanak likhi-aa naal.

That you live under His will, under His command. What does hukam mean? What is His command?

This is very deep. After a lot of meditation, when we start hearing, He says:

ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਇ ਜੀਉ

ayko naam hukam hai naanak satgur dee-aa bujhaa-ay jee-o.

There are two things; one is that He says if you are asking me what is my will; my will is that you remember that you are the Divine. Then walk with me and I will take you to the space where you will see who you are. That’s one thing. But if you want to know what His command is; how He is running His kingdom, that’s another thing.

We have heard that God is love. God is ishq. But what does that mean? What is ishq and who is God? Maharaj Ji says:

parhay sunay ki-aa ho-ee.

ja-o sahj na mili-o so-ee.

We started talking about sahaj in a previous deewaan. ‘sah’ means with and ‘j’ means birth - sahaj means something that is born with us. When we are reborn, something is born with us; Maharaj Ji calls it sahaj. It is the unwavering of our inside; nothing will bring your consciousness outside. Bombs could be exploding outside but you won’t be scared; you will be in the world of the fearless. Once we are in sahaj, we will know how He runs His kingdom but we can get some hints now.

Maharaj Ji uses a name for God - raam rai. Rai means king. He says:

kin biDh milai gusaa-ee mayray raam raa-ay.

Maharaj Ji says how can I meet my raam raa-ay; my lord husband, my lord king; how to meet Him? My lord, the king, God, who is the owner of the Universe; what is the law under which God is running his kingdom? Please, we should not keep thinking, we should only remain grounded, remain rooted within, feeling Him. Otherwise, we will miss the whole purpose. We will continue this tomorrow. Until then, please meditate on the next line:

ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਤੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਦੇਇ ਬਤਾਈ

ko-ee aisaa sant sahj sukh-daata mohi maarag day-ay bataa-ee.

Maharaj Ji says only the Guru, out of whom God is operating, and that Guru is at peace, is totally silent within, deep silence; only He can impart the knowledge about my raam raa-ay, and for that our responsibility is to hear Him by becoming silent.

Why should we become silent? Because if we are silent, we will be able to hear. If the inside noise stops, we will be able to surrender to Him and be lodged in the Guru’s womb. And what is the noise? The noise is from the ‘I’ - that I am, and all these things belong to me. We have been raising this thing within us for lifetimes. Recently, a gentleman came; he was very honest, and has a Ph.D. He said, I always wanted my name to have the title of a doctor. Why do we want our children to have more education, more money, and be more famous than us? Because our ‘I’ is attached to that. We have been raising this ‘I’; it has been growing for lifetimes. Now, we need to shatter this ‘I’. It is breaking everyday and we are going to eliminate it. Please do vichaar (reflect, contemplate) and listen to older Khajana Darshan. After 27 years, we are trying to understand the ੳ, ਅ (A,B,C’s). The story is very very deep. Please do not take it lightly. It takes lifetimes.

Queen Elizabeth passed away recently. Even these worldly positions are a result of meditation in previous lifetimes. In 1990’s, she came directly from London to Amritsar, did matha tek at Harmandir Sahib (The Golden Temple) and went back. She did not meet anyone. There is a big temple, Durgiaana Mandir, in Amritsar and the Hindu community requested her to visit there as well. But she said I just came to mathaa tek at Harmandir Sahib. Baba Maha Harnaam Singh Ji used to say that the Queen of England meditated with them for 100 lifetimes but her biggest desire was to become a big king/queen and she also had some desire to be a female as well. It takes many lifetimes! Please don’t be under the impression that this is our first lifetime; only God knows how many lifetimes we have been walking on this path and have reached here now. Please, let us not stand still, and keep walking quickly.

Dhaarnaa:

mayraa jee raazee nahee rahiNdaa, chal oHnoo milan chalee-ay

My true self, my insides do not remain silent; there is turmoil within me. Let us go and meet the soul, our truth.
