ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥
The Shabad that was being recited:
ਏਨਾ ਜੰਤਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਵੇਕੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
aynaa jantaa kai vas kichh naahee tuDh vaykee jagat upaa-i-aa.
vaykee means that He created space and in that space He created many types of things.
Maharaj Ji says that there is absolutely nothing in the hands of humans. They, on their own, cannot remain in the egoistic state or become egoless on their own. Another party is needed; to remain in the egoistic state the world is needed, and God is needed to become egoless.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਉਪਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
tan man Dhan sabh sa-up gur ka-o hukam mani-ai paa-ee-ai.
Is it easy or difficult to offer the mind and body to the Guru ? Like in the letter from New Zealand, the writer said that sometimes you say it is the easiest thing and sometimes you say it is the most difficult thing, and that is confusing to me.
sauNp means to surrender oneself. Difficult implies something has to be done and it is difficult to do it. If we say it is difficult to surrender that means we have to do something to surrender that is very very difficult. The secret lies here! It can be difficult if something has to be done but if there is nothing to be done, how can it be difficult? There is nothing to be done at all! We just have to sit with ease and ask him lovingly to please transform our consciousness to be the true self. We just have to show up at his door. He is the one who is going to do everything.
But why does this seem difficult ? The word difficult is relevant to doing but there is nothing to be done here. It is non-doing, and if it is non-doing how can we say it is difficult! The secret is non-doing. Our mind is foolish, it has learned many things but it has never learned non-doing. It is an understanding. To surrender is not doing anything, it is an understanding, and it will be a sudden vision because we have never thought about this. We would be amazed at the foolishness of this mind - it knows a lot; how to climb a mountain, how to descend, but if someone says don’t do anything then it is clueless because it has never thought about that. It is an understanding within us that beyond these thoughts and desires I can surrender to the Divine who is within me and all around me.
So, non-doing is not an act, it is an understanding, a sudden vision, it will happen in a second for the one who gets it. If we say sleeping is very difficult, does it make sense ? What is sleeping ? It means to stop doing anything. This is the same thing but in this case one stays awake. Sleeping is not doing anything and going to sleep and surrendering is not doing anything and staying awake. That is the only difference. But it is difficult because one has to be awake to understand this, to know how not to do anything.
In order to take rebirth or to become egoless, another party is needed; it is not in my hands. It is so amazing once we realize what the story is!
ਏਨਾ ਜੰਤਾ ਕੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਵੇਕੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
aynaa jantaa kai vas kichh naahee tuDh vaykee jagat upaa-i-aa.
It is very easy for consciousness that is simple and innocent and can hear, but for complex, over-thinking consciousness that cannot hear, it is difficult because they believe they can do the most difficult and challenging things. If you tell them this is easy, they won’t be interested because they think anyone can do easy things, I want to do difficult things. Our mind wants to do difficult things and by doing that the ego is strengthened. We can see how narrow, how subtle and profound this path is. We have to bring the Divine into our life to become reborn.
man ray ki-o chhooteh bin pi-aar.
One thing is utmost important that we should not be satisfied with this egoistic I. All the time, 24 hours, this thought should follow us that I am not happy with this egoistic I, and we are not - right ? If somebody says he or she is happy that means they are so far from the Divine that they have no idea what happiness is. I am not peaceful, I must not stay in this state of consciousness.
Dhaarnaa:
ਹਾਏ ਨੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ, ਐਸ ਮੈਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲੇ
haa-ay nee mayraa jee nahee lagdaa, ais maiN day naalay
This may seem like a minor thing but it is small things that are related to the essence of life; big things belong to the field of the mind.
ਹਾਉ ਨੀ ਇੱਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਨਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ, ਗੱਲ ਢਿੱਡ ਦੀ ਜੀਹਨੂੰ ਕਰੀਏ
haa-ay nee ithay koi naa mil-i-aa, gal dhid dee jeeH-noo karee-ay
I never met anybody to whom I could totally open my heart to. When we become our true self we will be able to do so - the true self has nothing to hide.
One might say this is such a minor thing and we should talk about something major, but this is the reality of life. We live in fear all the time, think twice about what to say and what not to say to someone. The story is about the reality of life, about us, and not about the mind.
ਵਿੱਚੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਰ ਖਾਂਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ, ਕੀ ਕਰੀਏ ਤੇ ਕੀ ਨਾ ਕਰੀਏ
vichay vich dar khaaNdaa rehndaa, kee karee-ay tay kee naa karee-ay
There is always this fear within me and I keep thinking what I should or should not say. If this is the way of life, how can it be peaceful ? Nobody opens their insides fully to another person; if one does, then they haven’t truly felt their inside.
ਪਲ ਪਲ ਲੋਕੀ ਰੰਗ ਬਦਲਦੇ, ਤੇ ਤੁਰੀਏ ਕੀਹਦੇ ਨਾਲੇ
pal pal lokee rang badalday tay turee-ay keeHday naalay
Who can I trust, who can I walk along ? People change colors all the time.
There is a letter from Sacramento.
Listening to Khajana Darshan has opened up a world of unfathomable reality. I am trying to implement Maharaj Ji’s teachings in my life and it feels very calming.
Please understand this. Maharaj Ji is not teaching us anything at all. He is making statements of truth about human life, about God, how He created the universe, etc. These are statements of truth. Teachings can change. Science was different 50-60 years ago, with new discoveries the formulas had to be changed. The statements of truth can never change.
Letter from Sacramento continued:
Sometimes people like me have this perception that I am good and kind hearted but slowly I am seeing the not so good side of myself. Looking at myself in detail from the moment I wake up in the morning to all the interactions throughout the day, I find it very challenging. I catch my ego bouncing like a ball and the real self making me ashamed of my fake perception of me. I have this facade around myself which we carry every minute of the day living in our own little bubble. It is so healthy to see the fake mask that I thought was me. It is as if there’s something within me that wants to push through the barriers and come out.
Let us focus on the forehead.
man ray ki-o chhooteh bin pi-aar.
Maharaj Ji says, you have understood that you cannot become a good human being, you cannot become your true self, you cannot be freed from the cycle of birth and death, you cannot be reborn, without the Divine. Now also understand that this is a relationship of love, ishq. You cannot come to Me cold and dry and expect to be transformed. In fact, those who are cold and dry cannot even reach Me. If somebody forces their way, like yogis do by means of controlling their breath, then God does not let them in; He does not open the door for them. Maharaj Ji says now you are going to be reborn and this is a story of love - you must understand this. And nature is full of His love.
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਐਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜੈਸੀ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਨੀਰ ॥
ray man aisee har si-o pareet kar jaisee machhulee neer.
Maharaj Ji says establish a loving relationship with me as a fish has with water.
ji-o aDhika-o ti-o sukh ghano
He says, the deeper the water the more happy the fish is.
man tan saaNt sareer.
Similarly, the more powerfully you feel Me, the more peaceful you will feel.
If we feel Him on the forehead slightly, that is like a fish in a small amount of water. He says I reveal myself to you; you should have such a loving relationship with me that you should buy me with love.
kanchan si-o paa-ee-ai nahee tol.
man day raam lee-aa hai mol.
Maharaj Ji says I have obtained Him by surrendering my consciousness to Him.
Gurbani doesn’t talk directly because it is poetry and not a story. In a poem, it is up to the reader what he makes of it, it is dependent on the reader's consciousness.
Please remove yourself from the forehead and let Him come with more force; go deep inside. We should sit by ourselves at night and practice. That is where we will drown; here we are just getting the hints.
ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਜੀਵਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਅਭ ਪੀਰ ॥
bin jal gharhee na jeev-ee parabh jaanai abh peer.
Maharaj Ji says, the fish has such an intense loving relationship with the water that if she is forced to separate from the water, she does not accept that and rather die. The water knows the love the fish has for the water. Maharaj Ji says that when I am convinced that your inside has become so loving that you cannot bear the pain of separation from Me, then I will never move away from you. He says that God knows whether you will accept separation from Him or not. The moment you establish such a relationship with God that it will be impossible for you to live without Him, then God will come and stay with you permanently.
har gun gaavahi taripat aghaahee.
saajan aa-ay vuthay ghar maahee.
He says those who have become content by meditating upon Him and singing His glories, and have no other desires, I come and dwell within your house permanently. I will never leave you but you have to make the first move and show how much you love me.
The moment I become convinced that you don’t want to live life in separation from me, that is when I would come and start dwelling with you permanently.
Let us please become focused at the heart area.
parabh jaanai abh peer.
abh means heart and peer means pain.
Please become very alert to the feeling; we would feel a pain there.
abh peer, abh peer, abh peer, abh peer….
peer, peer, peer, peer…..
There is a letter with a question. Baba Ji, sometimes there is a ringing bell sound, is that the Anhad Shabad sound ? It almost sounds like chaine ringing in the ears.
Yes, betay this is the Anhad Shabad and it will blossom more with time. Bring your consciousness between the ears, towards the front or the back, and then it will come between the ears. Hear the Anhad Shabad while focusing there and keep Moolmantar in your consciousness.
There is an email from Berkeley. The writer states that when somebody calls me lovingly it feels so good to me. Is it wrong to feel good about that ?
If we become happy upon hearing our name, then we are living in the illusion that this is Rustam Singh, this is Rustam Singhs’s house, this is Rustam Singh’s family, and this person has taken Rustam Singh’s name. It only proves that we are in deep sleep and we are living in ego. And whoever lives in ego is bound to die and has to come back and live in this ego again. Someone calls us and our ego becomes happy; the ego thinks I must be someone special. The nature of ego is that it wants to be special. Right away we must become alert to two things - that my name is just a number for my house, it has absolutely nothing to do with my real self. If this thought is present we can never become happy upon hearing our name - why ? Because now we are awake. Secondly, let’s say someone called us lovingly. Clearly, they saw us as a good person. Whether I am nice or not, that cannot be proved from this but it definitely proves that this person who is calling me lovingly is a kind person! Maharaj Ji says:
ultee ray man ultee ray.
Our mind understands everything the other way around. The story is different. It starts thinking I am a good person. Maharaj Ji says, no, the other person is the one who is nice. If we look at it this way, then we won’t become happy upon hearing our name, rather we will bow to the other person that he or she is so kind. And bowing to the other person will help us, it will weaken our ego. There are two ways to look at the same situation. If we see it correctly our ego will weaken, and if we see it incorrectly the ego will be strengthened.
These are precious times and we have to go very far. We should remain very careful whenever we feel good hearing about ourselves - your house is so beautiful, etc. The ego built this house so people could complement and the ego could feel good. If we were to just live there and nobody was to ever visit that home, we would not have built it like that. It would have been a simple home enough for few people to live there.
Dhaarnaa:
ਮਾਏ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ, ਨੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ, ਇਸ਼ਕ ਨੇ ਹੱਥ ਛੁਹਾਇਆ
maa-ay nee maa-ay, nee saanoo ishq nay hath chhu-haa-i-aa
The sound will travel in the street of the present. Please feel that and also feel the vibrating insides. With His grace, all the vibrations in the universe with countless frequencies are also present within us. They are vibrations of love but because we are asleep we cannot feel them. Feeling those amazing vibrations is feeling ishq.
ਸਹਿਜ ਪਾਕੀਜ਼ਗੀ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਦਾ
sehaj paakeezgee subhaav ishak daa
To be in peace and to keep the consciousness pure is the nature of ishq.
ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਰੂਪ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ
tay mukh sharDhaa roop suhaa-i-aa
The face of ishq is so beautiful, which is the face of faith, trust, respect, devotion, reverence.
