2487 - Khajana Darshan August 16, 2022 – Surrey (English Translation)

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

॥ ਜਪੁ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥  ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਜੀਉ, ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ

ik bin-o kara-o jee-o, ik bin-o

Ji, please sing only if there is a supplication arising from the depth of your being. These are not mere words, it is a cry arising from the heart. This sound emerged from the deepest point in our being so please wait until our insides are ready. Otherwise it won’t benefit us and we will learn the incorrect way of singing.

ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਜੀਉ ਸੁਣਿ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ

ik bin-o kara-o jee-o sun kant pi-aaray.

Oh my beloved husband lord, I have a begging to do, kindly hear me.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ

binvant naanak da-i-aa Dhaarahu ghar aavhu naah pi-aaray. ||

I am begging you with utmost humility that please be merciful. Oh, my beloved lord, please come home, reveal yourself to me.

ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ

ghar aavhu naah pi-aaray

Utmost humility is needed to understand this utterance. Gurbani comes from a deep place and it does not have the same impact if it is not sung from that state, that same depth of consciousness.

ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ਨਾਹ ਪਿਆਰੇ

ghar aavhu naah pi-aaray

What a begging! Oh, my beloved, please come home.

Dhaarnaa;

ਆਵੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੀ, ਮੈਂ ਸੇਜ ਬਣੀ ਹਾਂ

aavo mayray laal jee, main sayj baanee haaN

Oh, my so precious jewel beloved, I have become the bed for you. Our consciousness is where the Divine touches us.

He is so loving, so caring, so compassionate, it is not possible that we call him so lovingly and He doesn’t come.

Please keep listening while feeling the divine.

The question at the beginning of Guru Granth Sahib - kiv sachi-aaraa hoee-ai, how to become the true self. There is an indication of rebirth, that we are to become something different from this egoistic I. And to walk on this path, Maharaj Ji says:

ਗਾਵੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਭਾਉ

gaavee-ai sunee-ai man rakhee-ai bhaa-o.

Why is singing correctly important ? Why is Gurbani sung in ragas ? Must be a very important reason! We saw earlier that God vibrates in every part of His creation. The sign of life is movement and God is life; He is vibrating in each and everything in the universe which He has created and there are countless things in His creation. In each of these things, He is vibrating at a different speed. The lowest frequency at which His power vibrates in anything is 42 times a second. It is very difficult to understand this. And the highest frequency at which his power is vibrating, is in humans - 570 trillion times a second. The other thing is that whatever He has created, and at whatever speed His power is vibrating in the creation, all those vibrations are present within a human consciousness. Each vibration produces a unique sound and belongs to a family of the creation - a family of cows has a unique sound, a family of elephants sounds different, etc. It is stunning that all those vibrations are within us. All the sounds that are produced as a result of God’s power vibrating in His creation, are present within us. There is a symphony of the cosmos within us. So many instruments are playing within us, each vibrating at a different frequency. That is why we can produce so many different sounds. The olden sages divided all the sounds in the universe which are happening because of the vibration of God’s energy, they divided them into 8 notes - Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, Sa. They are arranged in an ascending order. By repeatedly singing these notes in different combinations different sounds are produced - the number of sounds produced are countless and these different sounds are called ragas, and all these sounds are within us. Instruments like the harmonium are played because when the harmonium is played, that same sound is stimulated within us, that same sound comes out of us; when the two sounds resonate, there is a significant impact on our consciousness.

ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ

rang rataa mayraa saahib rav rahi-aa bharpoor.

My Beloved is all ishq and He is pervading everywhere in the universe.

Harmonium is played at 28:51

First the sound is produced from the harmonium by moving fingers on the keys, and then that sound emanates from within us on its own because that sound is already within us. That is why musicians first adjust the instrument. We already have everything in place, the external instruments need adjustment to match the frequency. Notice how the sound of the harmonium resonates with the human voice - this is what affects our consciousness.

ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ

rang rataa mayraa saahib rav rahi-aa bharpoor.

Please understand this. Keertan is when we become the sound, only the sound remains, and then that sound sings. When I point out that we are singing incorrectly, it means that it sounds different than if the sound within us were to sing. When we are singing incorrectly, we are not going to that place within us where the sound is coming from, and we cannot awaken our insides. When we sing dhaarnaas in different rhythms, it produces different sounds from within us and the more variation of sounds that is produced from within us, the more our insides will awaken. It is difficult to awaken the insides with only one rhythm, it takes a long time. That is why I say that we should only sing when our inside is ready to sing. We should focus on hearing first. For example, if one were to learn how to ride a bicycle, it would be helpful to first see someone riding one. We will understand more about this in the coming days.

There is a letter from sangat.

Dear Baba Ji, life has changed so much since Barsi 2022. All I want to do is be at Darbar Sahib, with Sangat, listening to Khajana Darshan, or being with the Anhad Shabad and the vibrations inside me. I was blessed to have time with sangat in Toronto, then in Edmonton, and now in Surrey of course, and soon in Bulandpuri Sahib. Sangat even came to my house. I wanted to lay on the floor and bow down to them as they were arriving.

This is a blessing and one can only receive it in sangat. It does not happen on our own.

Baba Ji, I am realizing that time is running out. I am nothing, I know nothing, I control nothing. I want to know my true self. I am at Maharaj Ji’s Lotus Feet, Baba Ji.

Betay, Maharaj Ji is already transforming us to our true self. We should offer gratitude to Him.

I feel the energy moving up in my body, outside of me. It moves from left to right. I become a sacrifice to Him. I say most humbly, jee aaya noo.

Jee aaya noo (ਜੀ ਆਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ) is not just welcome. The real meaning is that I am so blessed that you came.

My greatest benti (request), please parmaatmaa (God), don’t listen to a word I say. I know nothing! You know what I need and you are already providing it.

See where God has brought this consciousness, transforming a hard thorn to a tender flower. Thank you so much, dear child. How blessed you are! Let’s remain grateful to Him.

Now we can start seeing the grandeur of the holy congregation.

Dhaarnaa:

Please don’t stretch the first word.

ਵੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਜਿਊਣਾ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਲੱਗਿਆ

vay mainoo tayray baajhoN jioonaa gunaah lagi-aa

ਮਿੱਠਾ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਈ ਵਾਰ, ਤੇਰਾ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਿਰਾਕ ਵੇ

mithaa lagi-aa see ka-ee vaar tayraa o firaak vay

Sometimes our separation felt very sweet.

ਓਸ ਪੀੜ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਜਾਤਾ ਜਿਵੇਂ, ਤੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਦਾਤ ਵੇ

os peerh noo vee jaataa jivayN, tayree ko-ee daat vay

Even that pain felt like a blessing. It must be a blessing because you only know how to bless.

ਉਹਨੇ ਪਾਲੀਆਂ ਵਫਾਵਾਂ, ਰਿਹਾ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗਿਆ

ohnay paalee-aaN vafaavaaN, rihaa naal lagi-aa

That pain of separation remained faithful to me. It stayed with me every day.

ਵੇ ਉਹਦੇ ਸਾਹਾਂ ਚ ਸੁਗੰਧੀ, ਸਾਹ ਤੇਰਾ ਲੱਗਿਆ

vay ohday saahaaN ch suganDhee, saah tayraa lagi-aa

The fragrance in the breath of that separation was just like the fragrance of your breath.

ਵੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਜਿਊਣਾ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਲੱਗਿਆ

vay mainoo tayray baajhoN jioonaa gunaah lagi-aa

Ji, we have been seeing the importance of Guru in the process of rebirth. The merciful formless forms of the Guru are countless. He is a multidimensional phenomenon. We saw that the Guru is ishq, He shatters the heavy fort of delusion, He makes our consciousness humble and makes it worthy of uniting with the divine. The fourth dimension of the Guru is that He is a wonderful, beautiful painter. He paints pictures of whatever He wants to convey, In every Shabad, He paints a picture, e.g.

ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਜੀਉ ਸੁਣਿ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ

ik bin-o kara-o jee-o sun kant pi-aaray.

He is showing us a picture of the kind of state when one supplicates to Him from the deepest point in their being.

Then He says:

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ

tis gur ka-o ha-o vaari-aa jin har kee har kathaa sunaa-ee.

I am a sacrifice unto my Guru who told me about God. Had He not talked to me about God, who else would have ? The worldly people ? See the picture!

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ

tis gur ka-o ha-o vaari-aa jin har kee har kathaa sunaa-ee.

There is a letter from a very blessed soul. We will read a few lines from that letter every day and try to understand.

With the mercy of the divine, who says that, look within and honestly see who you are. The writer says, when I did that, I felt that I was the lowest. When I tell others about what I have realized, I feel that there is a subtle ego within me who feels that I am right, I know everything, and that is a disease.

Maharaj Ji says, those who come to know how deep rooted the disease of the ego is, only they are blessed at His door with rebirth.

The writer then says that I feel lighter after shedding the ego.

Please understand this - we ourselves cannot shed ego directly. The love for God takes the space within our consciousness where the ego was dwelling.

I want to say to the writer of the letter - you will see that even when we tell something to someone, this thought won’t arise that I know and I am going to tell something. God keeps us in a deep state of being, in a realization that you don’t know anything and neither will you be able to know anything. In that state of this deep realization, He makes us say as He pleases.

Maharaj Ji says:

ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਅਉਰੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਜਾਣੈ

tayree kudrat toohai jaaneh a-or na doojaa jaanai.

If someone else, outside of You, gets to know about Your creation, then it means there is someone else higher than You. How can that be!

Let’s sing this dhaarnaa which is about the true self. We talked about the true self today.

Dhaarnaa:

ਤੇ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਜ ਚੱਲੀਆਂ ਵੇ

tay gallaaN nij dee-aaN aj chalee-aaN vay

ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦਾ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਪਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਏ

ਤੇ ਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਠਗਮੂਰੀ, ਠਗੰਨੀਆਂ ਵੇ

koi aakhdee ishq pi-aa-ouNdaa ay

tay jaaN day thagmooree thaganee-aaN vay

In the last village, we sang - some say that He makes you drink ishq, others say He makes you unconscious by making you smell something mysterious.

ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਸਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰ ਨਾਹੀ

ਸਭ ਰਹਿਸ ਹੀ ਰਹਿਸ ਦਿਸੰਨੀਆਂ ਵੇ

ihnaa galaaN dee asaaN taaN saar naahee

sab rahas hee rahas disanee-aaN vay

I don’t know anything at all. I feel I have lost my clever brain. Everything seems mysterious. My hands moved, the fingers moved, the fingers grabbed something, how they grabbed it, turned, how much force was applied by the fingers, the wrist, the upper arm - I have no idea! Some power operated!

ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਸਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰ ਨਾਹੀ

ਸਭ ਰਹਿਸ ਹੀ ਰਹਿਸ ਦਿਸੰਨੀਆਂ ਵੇ

ihnaa galaaN dee asaaN taaN saar naahee

sab rahas hee rahas disanee-aaN vay
