ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

॥ ਜਪੁ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥  ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

Let us please become focused at the forehead.

Another beautiful, graceful face of the Guru is the guide - The Divine guide, who shows us the path and walks along with us.

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਚੂਕੈ ਮੋਹੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥

gur tay maarag paa-ee-ai chookai moh gubaar.

gubaar means when there is a heavy storm and one can’t even see anything. Maharaj Ji says attachment is such a disease that it does not let us see the truth about us, the truth about this world, and it destroys our lives. There is so much in the world but we don’t see anything beyond the ones we are attached to - brother, sister, mother, father, daughter, son, friends. The mountains, rivers, snow, vegetation, flowers that we see are really just a glimpse; we do not see the truth. Even a person standing in front of us, we do not truly see them; all we see is the outside form - height, width etc. but we have no idea who this person really is. At the most, we may know that he or she is affectionate or egotistical or becomes angry. We don’t see the truth of anything on the outside and we don’t know anything about ourselves either. Life is wasted!  

Maharaj Ji says:

ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਪੜੈ ਬੰਧਨ ਮੋਹ ਬਾਧਾ ਨਹ ਬੂਝੈ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥

pandit parhai banDhan moh baaDhaa nah boojhai bikhi-aa pi-aar.

Maharaj Ji says there are many wise, learned people in this world who have great knowledge about the outside but they don’t know they have the malady, the disease of attachment and that attachment is poison which is going to kill them.

If we honestly see ourselves, we don’t see anything. Day and night we keep running. For whom? For those whom we are attached to. Even at night we have worries and anxiety. Our consciousness is tied outside to those that we are attached to. It cannot know anything about the inside; who I am!

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਉਧਰੈ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥

sabad marai taa uDhrai paa-ay mokh du-aar.

Maharaj Ji says that by remaining united with the sacred word, Waheguru, one awakens and the consciousness is freed from the bondages that it is tied to on the outside. It starts to see the true nature of everything around it.

sabad marai - the thing that keeps us running day and night, that consciousness dies and God blesses us with a new consciousness that is our true self. Our true self sees the truth. Remain with the sacred word at all times. Initially, one doesn’t remember all the time, so time and again bring your consciousness back and remember the sacred word.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥

gur parsaadee mil rahai sach naam kartaar.

As long as we remember the Divine, the consciousness which was shackled; shackled by those who are close to us. Our consciousness is tied to them, and cannot be freed. Maharaj Ji says if the Guru is merciful, then with His grace the consciousness does not go in the past or future and remains in the present, and God is in the present. If we draw a line from the top of the head, through the forehead, passing through the tip of the nose, middle of the chin, throat, heart, and through the navel all the way to the bottom - this is the present. When we think about the past, our consciousness shifts to the left side of the body. When we think about the future, our consciousness shifts to the right side of the body.

Yesterday, we talked about how the mind acts like the pendulum. Similarly our consciousness remains like a pendulum all the time; how can it become peaceful; how can it see who I am when it keeps moving left or right. With the Guru’s grace, we come to the present. When we focus at the forehead in between the eyebrows, we are in the street of the present, in the center; the Divine dwells in the entire street of the present - when we focus on the forehead, throat, heart area, navel, pubic bone, or bottommost point of the spine.    

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥

When we meet the Divine, we start to awaken. Don’t be afraid that I won;t have any attachment so how would I recognize my kids. First of all, it’s not that easy. Secondly, when this happens, we won’t just love our own children, we will love everyone and that will be true love; it won’t be a disease, it will be a blessing! We go from a small family of 4-5 people and now the entire world becomes our family. Where only 4-5 people were our well wishers and now the entire world gives us blessings. Look at where Maharaj Ji takes us. This is what we are here for, to become this!  

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥

Guru is showing us the way that when you place your head before the Guru, pray to Him that kindly bring me and keep me in the present with the Divine, so that I can become peaceful and become united with God. Then, we remain united with the Divine.

In Australia, we started a dhaarnaa that our true self is full of ishq and humility. Dhaarnaas are not just for singing; these are personal experiences that cannot be talked about. They are mere gestures and one has to find out on their own.

Our true self dwells within, and it is ishq. Maharaj Ji says:

ਆਸਕੁ ਏਹੁ ਨ ਆਖੀਐ ਜਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੋਇ ॥

aasak ayhu na aakhee-ai je laykhai vartai so-ay.

He says, your true self is in ishq with Me. But this false self of yours keeps account; that I recited this much paath but I did not get what I asked for. Maharaj Ji says this is not your true self; this is your false self and it cannot reach Me.  

Dhaarnaa:

ਜਜ਼ਬਾਤੀ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ਾ…. ਨਾ ਉਹਦੇ ਦਰ ਦਾ ਨੀ…. ਦਿਲ ਦਿਆਂ…. ਹੱਥਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖੁੱਲੇ

jazbaatee darvaajaa….. naa oHday dar daa nee….. dil di-aaN…. hathaaN naal khulay

Whole heartedly; our entire consciousness should be hungry that I want to go within.

ਲੰਮਾ ਚਿਰ ਰਹੇ ਉਸ…….. ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਗਲੀਆਂ ਚ…… ਕੁੱਝ…… ਸਾਰ ਮੁਹੱਬਤ ਪਵੇ

lamaa chir rahay us…… shahir dee-aaN galee-aaN ch……… kujh….. saar muhabat pavay

By remaining connected with the sacred word for a long time, the consciousness which had pride, ego, attachment gradually dies and we are freed from the childish behaviors of stubbornness, pride, and so forth. Our inside becomes humble, compassionate, and our true self is revealed.   

It doesn’t happen by just meditating once in a while. This has to become the top priority. We must understand that I am here to do this.  

ਲੰਮੀਆਂ ਉਡੀਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ…..ਤਨਹਾਈਆਂ ਲੰਮੀਆਂ ਵੇ……ਕਦੇ…. ਕਦੇ ਉਹ ਉਦਾਸ ਕਰੇ

lamee-aaN udeekaaN dee-aaN…… tanhaa-ee-aaN lamee-aaN vay…… kaday…. kaday oh udaas karay

By staying in the street of the present for a long time, one longs when will my true self be revealed? Sometimes one feels sad that it has been so long and I still become angry, pride still stings every once in a while, and I have these childish behaviors.  

ਤਰਕਾਲਾਂ ਤਨਹਾਈਆਂ ……ਦੀਆਂ ਵੇ ਚੁਫੇਰੇ ਉਹਨੂੰ…..ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਹਿਕ ਛੂਹੇ

tarkaalaaN tanhaa-ee-aaN….dee-aaN vay chufaray oHnoo……jivayN ko-ee mahik chhohay

After keeping on walking and walking and walking on this path, suddenly one day we will feel; when we open our eyes, we recognize that I don’t recognize anything. The ones you knew, you would have forgotten their names, even if they are your relatives. You would see a child with amazement - who is this, who is walking, who is laughing, who is speaking, who is making him grow, who is making him wise, who is it?  

In the beginning this glimpse would just last for a few seconds but we would never forget the fearlessness, the bliss, that we experience in that moment. Once we have a glimpse of that fearlessness and profound bliss, we can never forget that state of fearlessness and profound bliss, which cannot be described in words. Then lagan (devotion); we become devoted to that experience. We had a glimpse of our real self!

ਲਗਨ ਉਹਨੂੰ ਐਸੀ ਲੱਗੇ……ਪੌਣ ਮੁਹੱਬਤਾਂ ਦੀ….ਭੁੱਖ ਆਪੇ ਵਾਲੀ…ਆਣ ਲੱਗੇ

lagan oHnoo aisee lagay…..poun muhabataaN dee……bhukh aapay vaalee….. aan lagay

Our true self is just like the Divine. See where He wants to take us. We just have to offer Him our hand lovingly. Our true self is ishq; it loves everyone because it sees the Divine in everyone.  

Please keep the consciousness fixed at the forehead.

Maharaj Ji says:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਵਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਥੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

satgur purakh vikhaali-aa mastak Dhar kai hath jee-o.

Please feel the pressure at the forehead; that pressure is the Guru’s hand. He has placed His hand on your forehead. If your consciousness is attached somewhere outside, then bring it here. His presence on the forehead can be felt very easily.  

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਘੁੰਮਾ ਜਾਵਦਾ ॥

ha-o vaaree ghummaa jaavdaa.

Maharaj Ji says where the Guru has placed His head on my forehead, I’m a sacrifice to Him, I’m moving around and around His hand.

Let us rotate our consciousness at the forehead in an anti-clockwise direction, while keeping our eyes closed.

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਘੁੰਮਾ ਜਾਵਦਾ…….ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਘੁੰਮਾ ਜਾਵਦਾ…….ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਘੁੰਮਾ ਜਾਵਦਾ…….

ha-o vaaree ghummaa jaavdaa…….ha-o vaaree ghummaa jaavdaa…….

ਇਕ ਸਾਹਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥

ik saahaa tuDh Dhi-aa-idaa.

I continuously keep my consciousness focused there.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਪੁਰਖਿ ਵਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਥੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

satgur purakh vikhaali-aa mastak Dhar kai hath jee-o.

Please look very closely - where we were rotating at the forehead, a power is rotating there in an anti-clockwise direction.

ਉਜੜੁ ਥੇਹੁ ਵਸਾਇਓ ਹਉ ਤੁਧ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਜੀਉ ॥

ujarh thayhu vasaa-i-o ha-o tuDh vitahu kurbaan jee-o.

ujarh thayhu - my body was like a ruined village because it was filled with ego, pride, attachment and I could not feel the Divine. The Guru placed His hand at my forehead and showed me that look there is God within you! He rehabilitated the ruined village in my body. I’m a sacrifice to Him!

As long as we do not realize our true self, we do not meet our soul, we cannot become peaceful. Not only that we won’t become peaceful ourselves, we won’t let others around us be peaceful either.

ਜਿਸੁ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਤਨੁ ਧਾਰਿਆ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

jis kaaran tan Dhaari-aa so parabh dithaa naal.

Maharaj Ji says the real purpose you are here for, to meet your true self, the Divine, He dwells within you.

We are not here to run businesses; those things are only limited to earning a living. We are here for a big purpose.

ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਏਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹੈ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਤਨਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

har mandar ayhu sareer hai gi-aan ratan pargat ho-ay.

We are the temple of God.

We have become so engrossed in worldly pursuits. We were meant to go somewhere else but got stuck on the way and life was wasted.

ਚਾਲੇ ਥੇ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਨ ਕਉ ਬੀਚੈ ਅਟਕਿਓ ਚੀਤੁ ॥

chaalay thay har milan ka-o beechai atki-o cheet.

Maharaj Ji says we were meant to meet our true self, meet the Divine, but got stuck and wasted our life,

When we hear the Celestial Music, we are in the womb of the Satguru.

Those of us who listen to the Celestial music all the time, please remain attached at the hirdaa and then keep listening to that. Others, let us please bring all our consciousness at the ears and hear the sound of saaN saaN. 

Maharaj Ji says:

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਵਾਜੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

nirmal vaajai anhad Dhun banee dar sachai sobhaa paavni-aa.

nirmal vaajai - hearing the Celestial Music makes us humble; it makes us pure because as we listen to it, we remain in the Guru’s womb and the Guru shows us our true self - compassion, love, humility.

dar sachai sobhaa paavni-aa - Maharaj Ji says that the Celestial Music is playing at the Divine’s doorstep. The one who hears the Celestial Music is standing at the Divine’s doorstep, and the Divine blesses them with honor. What honor? The true self - with which one has no jealousy, no ego, no pride, no hatred. Whoever receives this honor becomes very peaceful.

Please wake up in the middle of the night and practice hearing the Celestial Music.

Dhaarnaa:

ਅੱਧੀ ਰਾਤੀ ਖਾਬਾਂ ਵਿਚ… ਆਣ ਕੇ ਜਗਾਵੇ ਜਿਹੜਾ…. ਸਮਝ ਨਾ ਆਵੇ…. ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਨੀ

aDhee raatee khaabaaN vich…. aankay jagaavay jirhaa….. samajh naa aavay mainoo kaun nee

Who is the one who comes from nowhere in the middle of the night and makes me hear the Celestial music.

ਪਹਿਲੀ ਰਾਤੀ ਲੱਗਿਆ ਸੀ…..ਬੋਲਦੇ ਨੇ ਬਿੰਡੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ……ਰੁੱਤ ਹੋਵੇ….. ਭਾਦਰੋਂ ਤੇ ਸਉਣ ਨੀ

pahilee raatee lagi-aa see…..bolday nay binday jivayN……rut hovay…..bhaadroN tay soun nee

First time when I heard that, it felt like the sounds after it rains in the rainy months of soun and bhaadoN.

Please stay at the forehead.

Maharaj Ji says that

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਸੀਸੁ ਭੇਟ ਦੇਉ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਚੇ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

satgur aagai sees bhayt day-o jay satgur saachay bhaavai.

Put your forehead at the feet of the Guru means that simply obey the Guru, do not bring your own intelligence in it.

Let us do that for a minute with our consciousness. Let us place our forehead at the feet of Guru Granth Sahib Ji with our consciousness.

ਸੀਸੁ ਭੇਟ ਦੇਉ ………..ਸੀਸੁ ਭੇਟ ਦੇਉ …………..ਸੀਸੁ ਭੇਟ ਦੇਉ ………..ਸੀਸੁ ਭੇਟ ਦੇਉ …….ਸੀਸੁ ਭੇਟ ਦੇਉ

sees bhayt day-o…….sees bhayt day-o……….sees bhayt day-o……..sees bhayt day-o

When we offer something to someone, we don’t take it back. So, let’s place our forehead at the feet of the Guru and leave it there forever.

We can see what life would be without the holy congregation, how it is to stay with the mind. Anger shuts the mind off.

And what does Maharaj Ji offer us:

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਵੈ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਨਾ ਰਾਮ ॥

naam japat naanak jeevai seetal man seenaa raam.

He says, remain with Him, and your head and your heart will both be peaceful.

 

Dhaarnaa:

ਵੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ….ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਜਿਊਣਾ….ਗੁਨਾਹ ਲੱਗਿਆ

vay mainoo…. tayray baajhoN ji-oonaa…. gunaah lagi-aa

ਹਜ਼ਾਰੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਉਂਦੀਆਂ….ਹਵਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਪੁੱਛਦੀ ਰਹੀ…..ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਸਾਡਾ ਸੀ ਵੇ…. ਦਿੱਲ ਰੱਖਿਆ

hazaaray valoN aa-ouNdee-aaN….havaavaaN noo maiN puchh-dee rahee…..kisay vee naa saadaa see vay….dil rakhi-aa

I kept asking the winds coming from the direction of my Beloved’s land: when is He coming? But the wind kept quiet and didn’t say anything.

ਅੱਜ ਆਊ ਅੱਜ ਆਊ…….ਸੋਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੱਜਣਾ ਵੇ….ਨਿੱਤ ਰਾਹਾਂ ਵੱਲ ਵੇਖਦੀ ਨੇ……ਦਿਨ ਕੱਢਿਆ

aj aa-oo aj aa-oo…..soh tayree sajanaa vay…..nit raahaaN val vaykh-dee nay……din kadhi-aa

I was thinking a message would come that you are coming today. I kept waiting for you day and night.

ਸੁੱਚਿਆਂ ਪਿਆਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੀ…..ਸਾਰ ਭੋਲੇ ਜੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਵੇ…..ਜਿਹੜਾ ਲੰਘਿਆ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਦੀ…. ਉਹਨੇ ਹੱਸ ਛੱਡਿਆ

suchi-aaN piaaraaN dee kee…..saar bholay jag noo vay……jih-rhaa laNghi-aa koloN dee

I kept waiting for you day and night, and the people, what did they know what is pure ishq with you. They just looked at me and laughed; for them it was a joke.
