Now we would start recognizing how difficult it is to hear about the truth. We don’t need any effort to listen to the talk which is about us or our respective worlds, but to really hear the truth by becoming totally awake is so difficult. A day will come when this would become the most astonishing thing that I was in such a deep sleep! That would amaze us the most before we start feeling in awe about His creation.

Our mind is asleep at the center of the pelvic floor and in order to meet our true self, the journey starts from the bottom of the spine. When we focus at the hirdaa (heart area), when He brings us at the hirdaa, or at the forehead, we are not trying to wake up at those holy tanks, as He calls it. We are not asleep at those points. We can only wake up at a point where we are asleep. When He brings us at the heart area, He blesses us with the gift of ishq. We start having glimpses in our consciousness that I’m not separate from His creation. When He brings us at the forehead, He blesses us with other eyes; that’s also called the third eye. That eye is capable of seeing what it is all around; that eye sees that it’s God all around.

naanak say akh-rhee-aaN bi-ann jinee disando maa piree. ||1||

God has blessed us with the human body, human consciousness. And then what else? There is one more thing.

What else? Yes, He does bless us with Guru but that happens later on. What else?

This is kindergarten stuff but why didn’t we know it? Because now we realize that we couldn’t hear anything.

The third thing He has blessed us with is our soul; our true self. That’s what He has blessed us with; three things: human body, human consciousness, and soul.

God has created His creation and He is sitting in that creation. He has specified their unalterable natures. The nature of the flower cannot be changed, the nature of the thorn cannot be changed. The nature of water cannot be changed; the nature of water is to go towards the lower level. The nature of a snake cannot be changed; a snake’s nature is to bite with venom.

sapai duDh pee-aa-ee-ai andar vis nikor.

Even if you feed milk to a snake, it remains venomous and bites.

The nature of fire cannot be changed, it rises upwards. Then, He created the humans. He said this thing I have created is so marvelous, and I am going to play a marvelous game with it. His will is that the nature of none other than the humans can be changed. He ordered that this thing which I have created, humans, their behavior can be changed. The nature of behavior of everything else in the universe cannot change but this thing, humans, their behavior can be changed. That’s how He created the game.

We have heard that one is shaped by the environment he or she was brought up in.

There is no way to change our true self’s nature, our real nature. But this self of ours is not real; it is the creation of the circumstances, of all the experiences that we have had during, only He knows how many lifetimes. So, we are not real! The real thing is our true self but that’s untouched. Society has made us something else. Society has given us a name, and that name has made us self-conscious, and that self-consciousness has crippled our intellect, our wisdom. Society gave us the name that made us self-conscious; we created our own world, we became self-conscious, and self-consciousness, I repeat it, crippled our wisdom. All the time we are self-conscious; how do I look, how do I walk, who is looking at me? That self-consciousness has robbed us!

All His creation except man is not conscious about their own existence. They are just living. We can see the dog’s here; they are sleeping so peacefully in the sun, right in the middle of the road; they are not self-conscious. Can we do that? So, all His creation, nothing except man is self-conscious. They are so rich! That’s what makes His nature so beautiful, so carefree, so divinely, so majestic. Our false self has made us so poor; we are trying to project to the world that I am somebody; I am this, I am that, but this and that are of no value. If there was value in something that was our true self.

Maharaj Ji says:

janam maran duhhoo meh naahee jan par-upkaaree aa-ay.

jee-a daan day bhagtee laa-in har si-o lain milaa-ay.

Maharaj Ji says the Gurus are so selfless. They come on this Earth to give the most precious gift to people, and that most precious gift is their true self. This is amazing! He says that the Guru blesses us with our true self.

Can anybody solve this riddle: how does the Guru bless us with our true self?

Please understand this, not just intellectually. These things should be absorbed in our bone marrow!

jee-a daan day bhagtee laa-in

How does the Guru give jee-a daan, the gift of our true self?

Simran means to remember. It’s so simple! Remember that you are something else. It’s so simple and that is why we don’t understand.

simar simar simar sukh paavhu.

Our sleep is so deep because of all that we have created around ourselves. Maharaj Ji says only the rare one wakes up.

The game is so amazing! He says when you remember that you are something else; you are soul, and soul is within, and your soul remains with God all the time. If you consciously come to understand this reality, instantly you will become peaceful. Simran is not a dead thought. He says it’s full of life; life is throbbing in this remembrance! Life is throbbing in the name of God. When we say Waheguru, that is alive, there’s life there. The thoughts which we entertain are always about us and our own worlds; they are dead thoughts, there’s no life in them; they are not going to wake us up, they cannot transform us, they cannot take us anywhere; we will remain asleep. The real meaning of simran, of remembering, is that you remember God and you will feel Him because that remembrance is alive.

simar simar simar sukh paavhu.

Maharaj Ji says that remember Him while becoming totally conscious; remember that you are the soul. This is your altered consciousness, that keeps on thinking and imagining, and the world you have created. This is your altered consciousness; it’s like the consciousness that becomes altered if we take drugs. He says you have taken the drug of ego, so your consciousness is altered. You cannot see the things as they are; you cannot think rightly, you cannot feel; that sensitivity is not there. He says that after becoming totally conscious, you realize this, it will hit you like a bomb; a sudden thought will start coming to us, with His grace, that I am soul; a sudden thought, and that would arrest us for two seconds depending on how strong our mind is. When these sudden thoughts start happening to us, we should immediately bow to Him within, and that bowing should be so that nobody can notice that; it is between us and Him. Nobody can even imagine what has happened to you within. Nobody can estimate what a bomb you have been struck with! The deep sense of gratefulness should be expressed in such a way that nobody should have any idea what is happening to you.

The Guru gives us the sacred word and says, remember this, it is going to make you meet your true self. Guru gives us the sacred word and the sacred word makes us remember; the Guru blesses us with Simran, remembrance. It’s so simple but it’s so simple that it cannot be understood. It’s so amazing!

ik doo jeebhou lakh hohi lakh hoveh lakh vees.

lakh lakh gayrhaa aakhee-ahi ayk naam jagdees.

Maharaj Ji says in Japji Sahib that we have one tongue, but if this tongue becomes from one to two, and then from two to hundreds of thousands, to twenty million. Suppose we have 20 million tongues and each tongue repeats Waheguru, Waheguru, Waheguru, Waheguru, then one day we would reach a point that when we say Waheguru, we would feel it’s all Waheguru. But not at this stage that if we say Waheguru, that we feel Waheguru. He’s pointing to us that you have to become accustomed to consciously remembering that I am within and I’m attached to Him, and then feel that. Again, hundreds of times, thousands of times each day you feel this, and then a stage would come that you would remain with Him all the time; that is your true self and then you would recognize God everywhere. So, we must please remain awake and remember Him consciously.

jee-a daan day bhagtee laa-in

bhagtee also means to remember; to remember with love, humility, and gratefulness. Maharaj Ji says make sure that you don’t just remember this truth or try to remember it and feel it all the time; make sure there is love in you while you are remembering; make sure there is a sense of gratefulness in you; make sure there is a sense of deep humility in you; feel humble before Him; feel grateful before Him, and that you are always before Him, and He is always before you.

jee-a daan day bhagtee laa-in har si-o lain milaa-ay.

They bless us with the sacred word that makes us remember the truth, the reality about me. One day, that remembrance makes me realize the truth that I am this who permanently remains with God. I am this; this is me! That other me who used to be outside, wandering everywhere, that was not me; that was the devil, who always made me worried, and so many things.

Please sing with love, sahaj, gratitude, and feel Him.What Maharaj Ji is saying, let it get absorbed deep inside you. Few days ago, when we said, we should bow to Him when we feel Him, this is what was hidden behind it - that He was going to give us something, jee-a daan; He was going to bless us with our true self.

jee-a daan day bhagtee laa-in

When we say laa-in, please recognize that He pushes our consciousness from the front towards the spine, and also takes us upward. Starting from the pubic bone come upwards as we say laa-in, with the ‘n’ sound while going up through the throat. Our bodies must become so still that we can feel the slightest movement. The word laa-in will straighten our spines. Let us become conscious about it.
