Ji, we are here to understand the gestures of His utterances. But the practice of meditation, of becoming focused, should be done during the remaining 23 hours. Please focus at the hirdaa, heart area, please.
upmaa jaat na kahee mayray parabh kee upmaa jaat na kahee
No way anybody can describe the glory, the beauty, the grace, the splendor of my Beloved.
taj aan saran gahee.
There is no way to become released from the clutches of the mind; the mind, which creates all the problems for us; it cannot solve any problem, it can only create problems. Maharaj Ji tells us the solutions. It’s the glory of my Beloved that in order to be released of the mind, I just have to come to the hirdaa and be with my Beloved, and experience peace and love, and everything which I really need.
Mr. Richard Fuller. Richer Buckminster Fuller was born in Massachusetts state in America. Later on he moved to Detroit, Michigan. After that night’s experience, where he was about to end his life. He started his life all over again. He started working in a mill, across the Michigan river in a Canadian city, Windsor. Everyday he would go to Windsor to work in a mill. He invented many machines which would be used in that mill. Then he joined the army, and invented new models, and so many changes in the machinery - the power steering, power brakes, all of these things are Mr. Fuller’s inventions. Then he started his construction company. Even today, 120 years after Mr. Fuller, the formula that he devised to create concrete by mixing certain parts of sand, gravel, cement, is used. He came up with a brilliant idea, an idea he took from nature, from God, that how God constitutes molecules in networks, he used that inspiration to build domes. All the domes in the world today are his inventions. He created many economic policies. He made inventions in mathematics. He was in love with the Earth and wrote very tender-hearted beautiful poems about Mother Earth. He became a very popular poet. He used to call the Earth his spaceship. And he would say that the Earth is the spaceship, and we are all astronauts, and we must take care of the Earth spaceship with the most tenderness and loving heart. He traveled across the world many times, delivering this message. These are just a few examples; he invented many things. He was the most popular inventor of the 20th century. That boy who was going to end his life, gave so much to the world. That day, when he walked back home from the bridge of the Michigan River, he encountered hope, and with that he began to find a meaning for his life. There is always a reason for hope and faith. Hope and faith in God makes us so strong, that we become capable of turning failures into successes.
There’s a question from a sangat from England. Baba Ji, whenever somebody is hospitalized, you ask them to keep paath (recitation) of Gurbani, or keertan (singing of hymns) on all the time. Is there any special benefit to playing Gurbani or singing of hymns in the hospitals?
Ji, maybe it was accidental that you heard me saying to play Gurbani at hospitals. It should be played at home too. If God is going to save this person’s life, then by singing hymns or playing Gurbani near them, the life giving energy of the vibrations of Gurbani affects the consciousness of that person, and that person heals much sooner. And if their time is up, and they leave this world while listening to Gurbani or keertan, then that will be of great help to them in the next life. I feel we all should understand this. Especially the youth, please, we should not think that I still have 100 years. May God give you many 100 years but an awakened person does not look at himself or herself as the age of the body. So, it is equally important to all of us.
How does it affect our next life? We should do an experiment. As we lie down to fall asleep, we should watch the thoughts, and notice what was the last thought when I slipped into sleep. It would be even better if we create a thought ourselves; any thought you like, for instance if someone creates a thought of Golden Temple, then behold the Golden Temple from outside, climb down the stairs, come at the parkarma, bow down to the Darbar Sahib. Then behold with utmost respect the Darbar Sahib, the sarovar (holy tank), Akal Takht, and so on. While having the thought of Golden Temple, you would fall asleep, and when you wake up, keep your eyes closed and wait for the first thought. Moments later, the first thought most definitely will be the last thought you had before sleep. The first thought would be Golden Temple. It is the same thing with death. We will talk more about it tomorrow. The question was how does Gurbani affect the outcome. We will discuss that tomorrow.
Kindly become acutely focused at the hirdaa
Dhaarnaa:
dasi-o vay ambaraaN day jaa-i-oN, keeHnay andareeN alakh jagaa-i-aa
kaday oh nachadaa nachadaa chhoohay, tay kaday roop saNgeet banaa-i-aa
Somewhere He comes dancing and makes me feel His presence. And then somewhere, He has assumed the form of a symphony, a beautiful symphony called Celestial music.
raag ratan parivaar nay jeekan, ghar saaday gaoun bithaa-i-aa
He is playing the Celestial Music in precious raagaas, beautiful melodies and rhythms, within this house, within me.
We should continuously keep listening to the Celestial Music.
Dhaarnaa (end)
Now, onto Maharaj Ji’s conversation with the Siddhas. One of the Siddhas, Charpat, asks Maharaj Ji:
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਾਰੋ ॥
dunee-aa saagar dutar kahee-ai ki-o kar paa-ee-ai paaro
charpat bolai a-oDhoo naanak dayh sachaa beechaaro
The question of the Siddha is that oh Nanak Ji, please give us the true answer. True answer means an everlasting answer.
dunee-aa saagar dutar kahee-ai ki-o kar paa-ee-ai paaro
He asks Maharaj Ji that the world I have created, my world, is nothing but an ocean of pain, an ocean of misery, ocean of sufferings, ocean of restlessness, ocean of stress. How do you go beyond this ocean which I have created myself? I want to go beyond it but I cannot.
jaisay jal meh kamal niraalam murgaa-ee nai saanay
Maharaj Ji says that as the lotus flower floats above the water; the lotus flower’s world is water, but it remains floating above the water; it does not let the water drown it, consume it. Also, as a duck crosses a stream but remains totally dry, that’s how life should be lived. Remain unattached. Attachment is pain if we can see it.
surat sabad bhav saagar taree-ai naanak naam vakhaanay
If we keep feeling His presence or keep listening to the Celestial Music, there is no way we can drown in our own world. Our own world gives us pain; it’s our own world which is the cause of suffering. Others are strangers; how would they make you suffer? It’s your own world. He says to remain feeling the divine, or hearing the Celestial Music, that’s how you would remain dry, remain floating upon the dreadful ocean of the mind, and life would be beautiful.
We should give challenges to ourselves that just in the next half an hour, I’m not going to let my world touch me. Just half an hour! We may survive for one minute or so but with practice that duration will become longer and longer. Maharaj Ji gives us the secret of living human life; the secret of living happy, content, full of life, love, human life.
Dhaarnaa:
nee baag maa-ay sajanaa daa, jeeHday vich dunee, maiN, tay oh aap
My world is something else, but my Beloved’s world is a garden in which is His creation, me, and Him.
hokay ishkay day vaykh nee havaalay, ajaad paunaaN dee haa-ay udaan
Fill your insides with love, close your eyes, fill your insides with all the love you have, and then feel the beauty of the freedom in which the wind is blowing. Ishq is free! You are tied up to your world. Look around, watch the beauty of ishq, the freedom; the wind is free!
