ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

॥ ਜਪੁ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥  ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

The consciousness is one. There are not many types of consciousnesses; we have one consciousness. When we eat, if there is food in the tummy, then that consciousness becomes busy in digesting the food and not much of it is available for meditation. So it’s very important that when we sit in meditation, or come to Darbar Sahib, our tummy should be as light as possible.

Please sit straight, with the spine, neck, and head in a straight line. Inhale, and take the breath to the support, just beneath the pubic bone. While holding the breath there, squeeze the muscles of both sides with all our power to the center in the line of the navel point; that squeezed position should be as thin as possible. Keep squeezing, keep squeezing, and when you can’t hold any longer then release the breath gradually and steadily. Don’t let it out abruptly because that’s not good for the lungs. We should release it in a controlled manner. As the breath comes upward, a power comes with it; an energy, beauty, some freshness, and then please feel the upper body becoming alive.

Only two times more please with all the might, all the might.

Please come to the heart area and feel the presence of the Divine.

Jat Pahara Simran is the most powerful simran (meditation) of all simrans because it instantly wakes us up. It does not require years of mediation, it wakes us up instantly! What we practiced today is the advanced state of Jat Pahara Simran.

Maharaj Ji says:

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਇਸਟ ਮੀਤ ਅਰੁ ਭਾਈ

maat pitaa banitaa sut banDhap isat meet ar bhaa-ee.

ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਅੰਤਹਿ ਕੋ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥

poorab janam kay milay sanjogee anteh ko na sahaa-ee. ||1||

The world we have created for ourselves, we had created this world in previous lifetimes as well. The roles may be different now; perhaps some new actors have joined now and some actors have gotten off the stage, but we are still on the stage. None of these people are going to be  

ਕੋਈ ਜਾਨੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਈਹਾ ਜਗਿ ਮੀਤੁ

ko-ee jaanai kavan eehaa jag meet.

ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਸੋਈ ਬਿਧਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ

jis ho-ay kirpaal so-ee biDh boojhai taa kee nirmal reet. ||1|| rahaa-o.

Maharaj Ji says that only the rare fortunate ones get to know who is my true well-wisher, my true friend in this whole wide world. He says that only the Guru is going to be there for you at your last breath. The Guru makes us meet our true self. The way of living of our true self is a pure way of living. We are trying to understand what Maharaj Ji means by our true self having a pure way of living. Maharaj Ji says that our true self, our soul, has a pure way of living. But what is the pure way of living? He says your talk would be pure, what does that mean?

Maharaj Ji says that when we live out of our egoistic I, anytime we speak to somebody, there is a motive behind it. Let’s say that you have an office, and on your left-hand side is your boss’s office, and on your right-hand side are the offices of your junior colleagues, and you are the lead person. If you go to the boss, your motive is going to be different, your tone is going to be different. If you go to the junior colleagues, your motive is going to be different, your tone is going to be different. Maharaj Ji calls this an impure way. Your consciousness is not free to speak; it has strings attached to it. So, this is not a pure speech, this is not an innocent speech.

Our true self is completely free. Please don’t be scared; it is a false belief that we are going to lose our family, our children; we are not going to lose anything or anyone. In fact, everything is going to become more beautiful. Our mind just becomes scared for no reason.

Today a mother and son came to me, to bless me with the dust of their feet. I said to the mother that you should be proud that such a beautiful soul took birth out of your womb. She said that is pride so I don’t say it. Is that pure thought or impure thought? It is an impure thought. She knows she is proud but she does not say it, so the consciousness is not free to act freely. It has to act with motive. 

Speech is a manifestation of our thoughts. Since our thoughts are impure, and hence our way of life is impure. Let’s say we are going to be forty in two weeks. Someone asks, how old are you? Impure consciousness will say I am 39. Our true self will say, I am forty. It’s day and night different. If a man and woman are talking to each other with the motive of getting married. They are not free to talk innocently or honestly to each other because there is a motive.

Nobody is totally open to you, because ego cannot; ego would not let us act or speak freely. On the other hand, our true self just says as it is. There is a day and night

It is not just that the true self speaks the truth and the ego consciousness does not; it’s not simply that. These are two different levels of consciousness. One is pure, which it says as it is. Another says the same thing differently with a motive.

Ego means that I exist, and my existence is independent of everything and anything. Maharaj Ji says:

ਪਵਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਮਹਤੁ

pavan guroo paanee pitaa maataa Dharat mahat.

He says you are not independent, you are existing because of the air, the breath. You are existing because of water, you are existing because of mother earth, the food.

ਦਿਵਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਦਾਈ ਦਾਇਆ ਖੇਲੈ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ

divas raat du-ay daa-ee daa-i-aa khaylai sagal jagat.

If there was no night and you were not allowed to rest, would you be able to exist? You exist because of the sun; you are not free; you are part of his creation. You are part of his creation. Our true self knows that I’m part of his creation. So when our true self talks to another person, she talks to another person as part of her, from whom nothing should be hidden. It’s not the nature of our true self to hide something. True self is just, it’s the truth!

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਮਨਿ ਨਿਰਮਲਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ

parabh mayraa sadaa nirmalaa man nirmal paa-i-aa jaa-ay.

He says my Beloved is pure, and He can only be had with a pure mind, with pure consciousness. So, as we meditate, the consciousness is purified. Impure consciousness is false and acts differently with different people. As we meditate, the consciousness is purified and the pure consciousness speaks to everyone in the same way. Our true self acts truly. Whether you meet a king or a beggar, your posture, your speech, the resonance behind your words would be the same.

What is resonance? When we speak, behind our speech, behind our words, there is resonance. Where does that resonance come from, and what is that resonance? We will talk about that tomorrow because it has a lot to do with purity or impurity.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਾਇ

naam niDhaan har man vasai ha-umai dukh sabh jaa-ay.

He says all of our sufferings, pains, arise out of our ignorance that I am independent of His creation while in truth, we are as everything else is - birds, animals, insects, vegetation, air, water; everything is a part of His creation. Just like them, we also are part of His creation. Out of that ignorance, out of the wrong understanding, our wrong behavior takes place, wrong way of living takes place, and hence all the pains. Maharaj Ji says:

ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕਉ ਦੀਨਾ

ha-umai rog maanukh ka-o deenaa.

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਸੋ ਰੋਗੀ

jo jo deesai so so rogee.

ਰੋਗ ਰਹਿਤ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੋਗੀ

rog rahit mayraa satgur jogee.

Maharaj Ji says that all His creation is ill; this is how He has created His creation. Humans are ill, and their illness is ego. He says the only being who is healthy, who is not ill, is the True Guru.

Let us please come to the forehead in between the eyebrows, and feel His presence there.

Dhaarnaa:

ਸੁਣ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ ਮੇਰੀਏ, ਮੈਂ ਜੋਗੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਇੱਕ

sun nee maa-ay mayree-ay, maiN jogee mili-aa ik

My True Guru is jogee. Jogee means one who is united with the truth.

Oh my mother, listen to me, I have met a jogee. He is called the Satguru Jogee.

ਲੱਭਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸਾਂ ਨੀ, ਜਿਸ ਗਲਿਏ ਜਾਕੇ ਨਿੱਤ

labhadee rahiNdee saaN nee, jis galee-ay jaakay nit 

Oh my mother, I have met a jogee, He is called a Satgur Jogee, a True Guru Jogee. You remember, I used to go in His street everyday and used to look for Him.

ਅੱਜ ਫੜ ਖਲਾਰ੍ਹਿਆ ਓਸ ਨੀ, ਸਾਡੇ ਮਸਤਕ ਧਰ ਕੇ ਹੱਥ

aj farh khalaarHi-aa os nee, saaday mastak Dhar kay hath

Today, He revealed Himself, put his hand on my forehead and stopped me from wandering around and made me still. He just put His blessed hand on my forehead, and I instantly became still and peaceful.

Please stay there.

There is a letter from a child of mine.

Dear Baba Ji, ever since Barsee I have been feeling like one very long big deep sigh, just waiting for my Beloved to arrive and save me from myself. I felt so different when I arrived back this year from Barsee. The very first morning I woke up, after arriving, I felt so disconnected, so out of place, and kind of felt like I did not even know where I was. I knew that I was back in Canada and in my house, but just a strange feeling of not knowing anything. I could not even think about my normal routine or how to get back into routine or what to do. I remember looking outside my window that morning, seeing the cars drive by and the people walking outside, and I felt like I was kind of in a state of shock where I could not comprehend the information my eyes were showing me. I was being shown all these images with my eyes, but there was no thought process connecting me to this information, or comprehending, or reasoning out why things were happening. I didn’t know if this makes any sense Baba Ji, but I just felt very disconnected from everything and very disoriented.

Betay, it’s normal. You stayed after Barsee; you were in an environment of truth, love, peace, and there you were living a life of purity, a life of truth. Suddenly you were put into an airplane and then brought to a different land; land of impurity, land of the minds. Certainly you would be so confused, shocked, what is this? You would be shocked at the behavior of the people, how they were looking at each other, how they were unconcerned about others, or unloving. So, certainly there would be shock, you will experience shock because you are living in a dream. But soon you will become settled and as and when we become totally pure, our soul, then shock will not be there. You will know the truth; you will know that this is the world of the mind, so there won’t be any shock. Thank you so much beta for sharing this with us.

ਕਦੀ ਸਦਰਾਂ ਲਿੱਖੀਆਂ, ਤੇ ਕਦੀ ਉਡੀਕਾਂ ਲਿੱਖੀਆਂ

kadee sadraaN likhee-aaN, tay kadee udeekaaN likhee-aaN

Oh my Beloved, I have been sending You, you would say poems, but they were in fact my heart felt longings and letters written to You while waiting for You.

ਲਿਖੇ ਕਦੀ ਚਾਅ ਮਨ ਦੇ, ਤੇ ਕਦੇ ਦਿਲ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੂਕਾਂ ਲਿੱਖੀਆਂ

likhay kadee chaa man day, tay kaday dil dee-aaN hookaaN likhee-aaN

Sometimes I wrote to You joyful dreams which I cherish, and other times, I wrote to You deep long sighs of my heart.

ਸੌਂਹ ਤੇਰੀ, ਕਰੀਂ ਯਕੀਨ ਚੰਨਾ, ਨਹੀਂ ਕਦੇ ਵੀ ਮੈਂ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਲਿੱਖੀਆਂ

souNh tayree, kareeN yakeen chan-naa, nahee kaday vee maiN kavitaa likhee-aaN

They were not poems. People would call them poems, but they were the states of my longing, my love for you.

Until we are transformed into our true self, our souls, we should deliberately live transparently, out of truth, and talk to others as if they were a part of ourselves. When we live like that, our seemingly foolish acts would still be wiser than the worldly consciousness’ wisdom, and what may seem like weaknesses to the world, like humility, compassion, tender-heartedness, would still be stronger than the worldly consciousness’ strengths.

ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਰੂਪ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਬਚਨ ਅਨੂਪ ਰਸਾਲ

mahaa anand mangal roop tumray bachan anoop rasaal.

How beautiful! Maharaj Ji says Gurbaanee, His utterances, give us supreme bliss (mahaa anand). Once we reach the state or become capable of hearing Gurbani, our insides feel like we are celebrating a festival. Listening to Gurbaanee, drinking Gurbanee, is like drinking some celebration (mangal roop). Anoop - unique. Your utterances are totally unique, and rasaal - full of love, and so tasty; full of juice of ishq, juice of humility, juice of compassion, juice of tenderness.

Dhaarnaa:

ਨਾਲ ਆਉਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਹਵਾਵਾਂ, ਵੇ ਦਿਲ ਬਾਗੇ ਆ ਸੱਜਣਾ

naal aa-oun tayray ishq havaavaaN, vay dil baagay aa sajanaa

Oh, my Beloved, please come to the garden of ishq, the garden of heart, and with You will come ishq.

ਬੋਲ ਮਧੁਰ ਤੇਰੇ, ਕੰਨੀ ਪੈਂਦੇ

bol maDhur tayray, kan-nee paiNday

Your sweet utterances enter within, through my ears.

ਸੁਖ ਮਸਤੀ ਚ ਨੈਣ ਜਾਣ ਮੁੰਦੇ

sukh mastee ch nain jaan munday

Then in peace, and in intoxication, my eyes shut down. My eyes close its shutters. Because my insides become intoxicated, my eyes become intoxicated, and in intoxication they become closed. I become peaceful and intoxicated.

ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅੰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਲਾਡ ਲਡੰਦੇ

sanoo antaaN daa laad ladanday

The sound of Your utterances caress my insides with extremely tender love.

ਤੂੰ ਆਵੇਂ, ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਲਾਡ ਲਡਾਵਾਂ, ਵੇ ਦਿਲ ਬਾਗੀਨ ਆ ਸੱਜਣਾ

tooN aavayN maiN vee laad ladaavaaN, vay dil baageeN aa sajanaa

Please come to my heart’s garden. I want to love You too, as Your utterances love me. I too want to love you!

ਨਾਲ ਆਉਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਹਵਾਵਾਂ, ਵੇ ਦਿਲ ਬਾਗੇ ਆ ਸੱਜਣਾ
