Yesterday, we pondered over Maharaj Ji’s utterances:
ko-ee jaanai kavan eehaa jag meet.
He says that the rare fortunate ones only get to know who is my true well-wisher, my true friend in this whole wide world.
jis ho-ay kirpaal so-ee biDh boojhai taa kee nirmal reet.
He says when God becomes merciful to someone, He makes the arrangement for that person to meet the True Guru; our Guru is Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Then that person comes to know that only the True Guru is my real friend, my real helper, my real support, my real guide. And then that person’s life becomes nirmal, pure. Somebody asked this question and I’m thankful to him; the question was that could you please talk more about what does this mean that that person’s life becomes nirmal (pure). It’s a very precious question.
Please understand this. Whatever we do, speak, or see, our deeds spring from our thoughts, and our thoughts come from our consciousness. The state of the consciousness determines whether that thought is pure or impure. Two people say the same thing, that God is One. One person's consciousness is on the earth and another person’s consciousness is in the skies. Even though both of them said the same words, their consciousness is at two different stations; their voice will be different and the impact on the listener will be different. The question is: is the consciousness on the earth or is the consciousness in the skies? That makes the difference whether your thought which manifests in the form of voice is pure or impure. If the consciousness is on the earth, that thought will be impure, whereas if the consciousness is in the skies, that thought will be pure.
kar kirpaa daas nadar nihaalay.
When the Satguru becomes merciful to someone, He throws a glance of grace at that person.
anDh koop tay kandhai chaarhay.
He pulls that person’s consciousness out of the deep dark well, which is beneath the pubic bone, and He pulls it above the pubic bone.
Please understand this.
As soon as we forget about the truth, instantly our consciousness falls down into the dark blind well. Immediately! We don’t have to do anything; we come on the earth; our thoughts will be different, emotions will be different. And if we remember God then our consciousness rises upwards in the skies. The position of our consciousness determines our thoughts and actions, and hence our way of life.
This is very, very important. Maharaj Ji is calling out loudly - you have received a human body, you have been gifted with a human body, you have an opportunity, take care of it, take advantage of this opportunity! It won’t happen with just 1-2 hours of paath (reciting prayers) and simran during the day. This is a big task.
jaagahu jaagahu sootiho chali-aa vanjaaraa.
He says you came on this Earth to trade in the truth. You are a merchant of truth and your wealth was your breath. Your wealth is being wasted, and you have not traded your false I with the truth yet. Time is running out! We must become very, very awake to our purpose. We cannot afford to stay half-hearted.
Let us please sit straight with spine, spine, neck, and head, all aligned. Let us please become focused wherever it’s easy for us to become focused - at the top of the head, in between the eyebrows, at the heart, or at the naval point. Wherever it’s easy for you.
anDh koop tay kandhai chaarhay.
Our purpose is to realize our true self, that we are the souls, and the souls are pure. The question is to talk about the soul.
While remaining focused up above, at one of those points, please come beneath to the point in the center underneath the pubic bone. Squeeze the muscles from both sides; bring the muscles into the center with all of our might. Squeeze those muscles to the tightest state with all the might. Squeeze it, bring it to the center. First breathe in and take the breath to that point beneath the pubic bone. There is power in the breath. That power is going to bring the muscles together. Now squeeze the muscles from both sides with all the might; more, more, more! Release it upwards when you can’t hold anymore. It should be consciously released upwards gradually to where we are focused.
Please take a deep breath and take the breath down below, beneath the pubic bone. The breath has power in it because breath has God in it. While holding the breath there, squeeze the muscles from both sides with maximum force. Keep squeezing until you feel like you are going to be out of breath. Keep squeezing while remaining straight and then release it upwards gradually and consciously. We would feel that some power has arisen from that point and is moving upwards. It should be released consciously and steadily, not abruptly, but while controlling it and bringing it upward. This is the more advanced state of Jat Pahaaraa simran.
If we are doing it right, we would feel that there is nothing there, just bones. There is actually nothing inside, just bones, and God. At the end, the bones also dissolve into the universe; not when our body is burnt, but right now, because bones are nothing but a more concentrated state of consciousness.
This meditation is to be done with an empty stomach. Do not release abruptly. It should be done very slowly, steadily, and coming upward with it. If we are doing it right, then we would feel that the muscles are being squeezed inward starting from both the hip bones.
anDh koop tay kandhai chaarhay.
Now please stay above, either at the heart area, or in between the eyebrows, or in the center of the forehead, or in the center of the top of the head. Stay there. We must not let the consciousness fall down into the blind well.
If our consciousness is on the Earth, then all our thoughts will come out of either attachment, lust, greed, ego, anger; they will be worldly thoughts. Because consciousness is on the Earth, and the world is on the Earth.
The moment our consciousness is lifted above the ground, above the dark well, we are released from our minds. The thoughts will be pure, not belonging to the Earth. They would not belong to our worlds.
Maharaj Ji says if your consciousness is on the Earth, your thoughts are going to be worldly, impure, and hence your deeds will be worldly too. But what does pure mean? What does pure mean? When we say pure thoughts, we start thinking maybe those thoughts would be about God, or our true self, or holy congregation, or Guru. No, it’s totally different. We’ll talk tomorrow about pure thoughts and impure thoughts.
Please come at the heart area.
meeraaN daanaaN dil soch.
meeraaN - True Lord.
daanaaN - all knowing.
soch - who purifies our consciousness or our heart.
muhabtay man tan basai sach saah bandee moch.
He says whosoever has mohabat with Him, whosoever has ishq with Him, God starts dwelling within him.
sach saah - The true everlasting lord.
bandee moch - the one who frees us from the jail.
We are the prisoners of our own world, the very world which we have created with our own hands, we are the prisoners of it. All our thoughts remain about the world we have created ourselves. That’s the boundary, that’s the prison.
Our own respective worlds, for which we are spending our day and night, every breath, thinking about them, worrying about them, creating, making things for them, and drowning deeper and deeper in, in that. That is the prison, we were not to go deep into that prison. We were to get out of the prison, that is the blind well. Our world is the blind dark well.
Dhaarnaa:
vay nahi-oN jaanadee muhabataaN dee saar
You are saying that He starts dwelling within you only if you have ishq with Him. But I know nothing about ishq.
tay naa hee jaanaaN kinjh kareeda pi-aar
And neither do I know how to love someone.
lai mul vee nahee sakdee deedaar
And nor I can know any other way of how to have you dwell in my house. I cannot even buy that.
barhaa dil karay milan noo tainoo
I’m aching so intensely to meet you.
kar taras naa bouree ho jaavaaN, vay dil baageeN aa sajanaa
Please be merciful before I become crazy, and people start throwing stones at me that there goes a crazy person.
naal aaoun tayray ishq havaavaaN vay dil baageeN aa sajanaa
Dhaarnaa (end)
There is a letter from a sangat in the UK.
My dearest, you found me. Please now ground me so I may not wither in the heat of the summer. May all my demerits fall off in the autumn. May my heart not feel the hardness of the winter so I can fully blossom connected to the whole of your creation and feel the ishq of your oneness in the spring. May I become ishq, be the ishq.
Please hear the celestial music.
Dhaarnaa:
do ghut mad day pi-aa vay babalaa, do ghut mad day pi-aa
bojh barhaa hai, sir mayray tay, aih kis kam aavoogaa
I’m carrying a lot of weight on my head; the weight of all my worries and concerns. I am always worried about my world, but what good that is doing to me. I’m carrying all the weight.
Maharaj Ji says:
ray man tayro ko-ay nahee khinch lay-ay jin bhaar.
Maharaj Ji says that you are carrying the weight of all these people, your world, but none of them is yours.
kar karam vay, janamaaN daasee, mayray sir toN pand luhaa
Oh my beloved, father, please be merciful to me. I must have been a disciple of yours for the past life, it cannot be that just in this life that I’m allowed in your court. Please be merciful to me, and make me free of all this weight. Please make me feel free, liberate me.
