ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
॥ ਜਪੁ॥
ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥
santahu man pavnai sukh bani-aa.
Oh saints, my mind who used to wander all over like the wind, without any defined purpose, without knowing any valuable purpose, has become still, and by becoming still it has become peaceful. My windy mind has become still and peaceful.
Let us please feel the stillness within.
kichh jog paraapat gani-aa.
I feel now I know something about the secret of meeting my Beloved; that you have to become still, you have to come within, in order to meet the one who dwells within. How beautiful! I feel I have come to know something about meeting with the Divine.
santahu man pavnai sukh bani-aa.
kichh jog paraapat gani-aa. rahaa-o.
If we don’t feel peaceful, and the sincere cry, genuine prayer, arises within us that oh my Beloved, please make me peaceful; if it was genuine and we are there to feel the peace, we would feel the peace. But we have to be totally present to feel the peace.
Once this person comes to this holy congregation and asks the sadhu. Ji, everyone in the congregation looks so peaceful; their faces look so peaceful, their posture looks so still; they seem to have deep grounding consciousness. What is the secret? The sadhu says that, Maharaj Ji says:
say-ee sundar sohnay.
saaDhsang jin baihnay.
Whosoever comes in the holy congregation and sits there, they look beautiful. But that sitting is not sitting of the body, it is stilling the mind.
Then the person asked, just by sitting here one becomes so peaceful? You must be doing something. The sadhu said, yes, we do. We all work in the gold mines. Gold mines? I’m asking what’s the secret of these people who look so beautiful, and you said, we work in the gold mines. He said yes, gold mines; we all work in the gold mines. Would you mind explaining this please? I’m not just enquiring for fun; I really want to know; I’d be grateful. The sadhu said, to mine the gold, a lot of dust has to be removed before we find a small amount of gold. The same way, work needs to be done to remove the dust, the dirt, the impurities in order to discover the truth which is so precious, and that is like mining gold.
Potential is hidden within; potential for our inner greatness, inner truth, inner glory, the splendor, the beauty. Those who are fortunate enough come to understand that there is no wealth like this in the whole universe; that If I want to be really wealthy, if I want to be really beautiful, then I have to work in this gold mine. This wealth does not lessen when used, it keeps increasing. That gold mine is the blind well. Let’s go there.
Please let us sit straight - spine, neck, head, all aligned. Look at the muscles underneath the pubic bone and come to the very center of our body there, in the line of the heart, navel point, and down below like a straight line. While breathing in with “Wahe” in your consciousness, and then holding the breath there underneath the pubic bone, and squeeze from both sides with all the energy; that energy is the energy of the mind, anger, lust, attachment, all those. Let’s have that energy released from the hands of our mind. When we take the breath there, in the breath there is God. God takes the air within, the breath cleanses all the blood and performs those functions, and then brings the used up air outside. It’s God's obvious hand. So, let’s breathe in, and then squeeze from both sides, right from the extremes of both sides pulling inward from that point to the center most point underneath the pubic bone, and hold it there. Then slowly release the breath and come up with it to the heart area. As the breath rises upwards, we come upward with it to the heart area. That’s where the consciousness which Maharaj Ji releases from the mind, is collected in the home of ishq.
We must get tired if we are doing it right; tired as well as energized. This is contradicting itself. The mind becomes tired; it cannot go out, it does not; we do not leave energy in its hands to go out. And when we come up, we feel energized.
Please come to the heart area and feel the aliveness.
Maharaj Ji says that God himself takes us out of the blind well, by making us catch hold of his robes. So, when the breath comes out, God comes out within that; God is not a person that if God in the breath comes out, then there would be no God within us anymore. So, when God comes out in the breath, He takes that energy which was in the hands of the mind to the heart area.
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਾਢਿਅਨੁ ਲੜੁ ਆਪਿ ਫੜਾਏ ॥
anDh koop tay kaadhi-an larh aap farhaa-ay.
anDh koop - Blind well, blind dark well.
Maharaj Ji says, He’s so merciful, that when you pray to Him that please take me out of the hands of the cruel mind, He does not look at your account what type of deeds you have done, He is so merciful; He instantly takes you out of the blind well.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਰਖੇ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਏ ॥
naanak bakhas milaa-i-an rakhay gal laa-ay.
He forgives you for all the sins provided you do not fall back, and then He keeps you tightly embraced with him.
Dhaarnaa:
ਸੁਣ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ ਮੇਰੀਏ, ਮੈਂ ਜੋਗੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਇੱਕ
sun nee maa-ay mayree-ay, maiN jogee mili-aa ik
Oh my mother, I have met a Jogee, He’s called True Guru Jogee.
ਸਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਿਰਾਸਤ ਜੱਗ ਦੀ, ਉਸ ਕੱਢਿਆ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਖਿੱਚ
saaH vich hiraasat jag dee, us kadhi-aa sanoo khich
I was imprisoned by no other, but my own world, which I had created - my family, my friends, my belongings, my thoughts; I was imprisoned by them. Not the world of God but my own world. That’s where the jail is, below the pubic bone. That’s where our mind keeps our consciousness imprisoned. I was imprisoned by my own world, and my Beloved, that Jogee, has pulled me out of that prison.
ਖੌਰੇ ਕਾਹਦਾ ਸਾਡਾ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ, ਮੈਂ ਦਿਲ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਖੇ ਸ਼ਿੱਕ
khouray kaaHdaa saadaa rishtaa, maiN dil naal rakhay shik
Oh my mother, I don’t know what’s my relationship with him, but He keeps me tightly embraced with His heart.
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਰਖੇ ਗਲਿ ਲਾਏ ॥
naanak bakhas milaa-i-an rakhay gal laa-ay.
He keeps me tightly embraced against His heart. I don’t know what type of relationship we have.
Maharaj Ji says that:
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਜੋ ਅੰਤੀ ਅਉਸਰਿ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਏ ॥
so aisaa har naam japee-ai man mayray jo antee a-osar la-ay chhadaa-ay.
Maharaj Ji says that in everyone’s life, one thing becomes most important to you. One may have many things in one’s consciousness - spouse, children, property, wealth, fame, beauty, power, but one thing out of all of those is going to become most important to you. And that one thing; that maybe your child, your spouse, your property, your place, your thought, your power, whatever; that one thing which becomes most important to you, at the very last breath you are going to come out of your body while having the thought of that thing, and on that basis God decides where to send you next or what body to give you next.
ਪੂਰਬ ਜਨਮ ਹਮ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਰੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਅਬ ਤਉ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
poorab janam ham tumHray sayvak ab ta-o miti-aa na jaa-ee.
Oh my Beloved, I worshiped You even in my previous lives, I cannot leave you now. What is the proof? The proof is that I hear the Celestial Music.
ਤੇਰੇ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਹਜ ਕੀ ਮਾਥੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਦਗਾਈ ॥
tayray du-aarai Dhun sahj kee maathai mayray dagaa-ee.
That Celestial Music is so tender, so soft, so quiet. Music and quiet? Yes!
Maharaj Ji says those who get to hear the Celestial Music in this lifetime, it is the proof that you have been His devotee in your previous life. Either when you left the body you were into hearing the Celestial Music or you were coming quite close to hearing it, and that is the sign, the proof. You have not just reached this state out of nowhere.
Please come in between the eyebrows.
gur dikhlaa-ee moree.
The Guru has shown me a hole, a door.
jit mirag parhat hai choree.
Guru has shown me doors through which the mind steals me from myself, takes me out, keeps me wandering outside, making me unpeaceful. And what are those doors? Eyes, ears, talking, thinking, all these are doors through which the mind snatches us from ourselves, and keeps us roaming outside, and punishing us.
Then He says:
moond lee-ay darvaajay.
I have closed all my doors - I have shut my eyes; I have withdrawn the consciousness in my ears from the outside, from the worldly talk; I have closed my mouth, I do not talk. I do not see, I do not hear any worldly things. I do not think anything. I’m just feeling, and now what happens? I can hear the Celestial Music.
baajee-alay anhad baajay.
How beautiful! He says shut your doors tight and you would hear the Celestial Music. Come here, stay here, shut your doors tightly, and now you should hear the Celestial Music - at least saaN saaN or something.
As we become more or fully focused in hearing the Celestial Music which is being played throughout the universe; as we start appreciating it, we would start feeling intoxicated. It’s the song of ishq. It is the wine of ishq, it is to be drunk. When we hear it, we drink it. Our consciousness hears it and becomes drunk.
Those of us who can hear it, you are so blessed! And those of us who can’t hear it yet, we should become unhappy with ourselves, that I must have been asleep in the worldly thoughts. We should become unhappy with ourselves.
Dhaarnaa:
ਰੋਂਦੀ ਰਹੀ ਅੱਜ ਮੈਂ ਸਾਈਆਂ, ਲੈਕੇ ਬਾਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿਰ ਆਪਣਾ
roNdee rahee aj maiN saa-ee-aaN laikay baahaaN vich sir aapnaa
Oh my Beloved, I have been crying all day today because I can’t hear the Celestial Music. But please don’t become disheartened, I am coming.
ਵੇਖ ਕੁਚੱਜੀ ਵੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ, ਮੂਲੋਂ ਕਰੀਂ ਨਾ ਤੂੰ ਦਿਲ ਮੰਦੜਾ
vaykh kuchajee vay mainoo, mooloN kareeN naa tooN dil mandarhaa
I’m not that wise, I’m not that attentive, that’s why it has happened. But please don’t become discouraged, I am coming, I’m coming.
