Please come up and hear the celestial music.

tayray du-aarai Dhun sahj kee maathai mayray dagaa-ee. ||2||

poorab janam ham tumHray sayvak ab ta-o miti-aa na jaa-ee.

I’m hearing the, so mesmerizing, peace giving Celestial Music at Your door; my forehead is the door to Your mansion. I have heard that Your mansion is right within the head. Turbans and head covers are crowns on the head because Your mansion is there.

Dhaarnaa:

Oh my mother, I heard the Celestial Music, but I thought it wasn’t something big, just some saaN saaN. What a foolishness of mine was that!

daagay hohi so ran meh joojheh bin daagay bhag jaa-ee.

He says, the ones whose foreheads are marked with the Celestial Music have been my devotees in the previous lives too. They are strong, brave; they fight against their minds in the field of life, and they do not quit the fighting. They win eventually.

bin daagay bhag jaa-ee.

Those who don’t hear the Celestial Music, they are not brave enough yet. They can run away from the field of life. They are weak.

Maharaj Ji says in many shabads that the mind is like a deep ocean, an ocean full of very dangerous species like anger, lust, attachment, ego, greed, jealousy, and we have to go to the other shore of the ocean. Please remember that winds don’t blow in favor of a ship that has no destination.

I was saying that when Christopher Columbus set out with his crew on this voyage to discover the North American continent, they had many months of food with them. After remaining in the water for many months, his crew got very tired. They even made a plan amongst them that tomorrow we are going to take control of the ship from Christopher Columbus and we are going to go back. There is no land in this direction. It was not a coincidence; this is how His nature works. That very day Columbus saw a branch of a tree floating on the surface. He noticed that the leaves on the branch were green, and he shouted that the land must be near. That very evening, they saw land from a distance and everybody shouted, there is the land, there is the land. It was very common those days that many Europeans would sail into the waters to explore but they had no destination. But Columbus was not just an explorer. He had a definite destination before him and that’s why he reached the destination. We must be very clear in our minds why I am in these waters of Sadh Sangat. Only then we are going to reach the destination. People have come from far off places here. What is the story? I don’t know what is the difference between me and them? The difference is that they are very clear about the destination but I don’t have my eyes on the target.

The prize on this path is the realization of the self, that we are the Divine light. What a prize!

Dhaarnaa:

nee baag maa-ay sajanaa daa, jeeHday vich dunee, maiN, tay oh aap

rath soorjay daa diNdaa firay hokaa

He says that the sun is riding a chariot, which is invisible. The sun is announcing to the whole world that you are much more beautiful torches than I am. I am going to expire at some point but you are the torch of true Divine light; everlasting. But you don’t know your potential.

tooN vadee soorjaaN toN, sachee haiN masaal

You are the real torch; everlasting. I, the sun, am only for sometime and I’m not true.

nee baag maa-ay sajanaa daa

Dhaarnaa (end)

daagay hohi so ran meh joojheh

jaa ka-o har rang laago is jug meh so kahee-at hai sooraa.

Maharaj Ji says they are brave who do not run away. But please understand that without meditation, we can never be more conscious than ordinary worldly people. Because without meditation, what we hear and what we understand remains in the upper layer of our consciousness only. It does not go deep inside. We may listen to Gurbanee for an hour but if we step outside and someone asks us to repeat two lines that we heard, we can’t because it remained in the upper layers of our consciousness and did not go deep.

Please understand this. What is the meaning of Simran (meditation)? The entire Sukhmani Sahib composition is singing the glory of Simran.

simra-o simar simar sukh paava-o.

kal kalays tan maahi mitaava-o.

He says simra-o simar simar - meditate, meditate, meditate, and sukh paava-o - you will become everlastingly peaceful. Why does He repeatedly say meditate, meditate, meditate. Why?

It does not mean to do meditation repeatedly. The meaning is to go deeper and deeper in your meditation so this becomes lodged even into the deepest layers of your consciousness, and not only the upper layers. He says meditate and go deep. Deeper, deeper, deeper! Until we go deep, we will remain weak on this path. As we go deeper and deeper in meditation, we start becoming intoxicated. In that intoxication, we feel brave; nothing can move us. The whole world could be on one side, and you alone on the other side and they won’t be able to move you.

anik si-aanay pach ga-ay naa nirvaaree jaa-ay.

It is of paramount importance that in mediation we should lose the sense of being that I am. We should become so absorbed in feeling Him or in hearing the Celestial Music that we should become totally unaware of who I am and where I am.

Let’s do that meditation again with so much might that we get tired.  Let’s sit straight and collect our consciousness, breathe in, take the breath to the point below the pubic bone. Then squeeze the consciousness from all of that area; squeeze it, bring it to the center, hold it there. The mind is using our power; the same power that is being used by the mind is going to make us meet the Divine when it goes up. If it remains in the hands of the mind down below, we will never be able to meet the Divine.

Now gradually release it and come upward with it, to the top of the head. When we release that energy upwards, either we should come up to the top of the head to the tenth gate, or better yet, if we can, then remain connected to both sides, i.e. while remaining at the top of the head, breathe in and go to the area down below.

Please do not release the breath abruptly.

This path is so amazing! It does not end at realizing our souls; it goes beyond that. When we feel the Divine in the hirdaa (heart area), the thing that feels the Divine is our soul. Slowly, we start to remain with the Divine all the time and become the soul. Above the heart, there are other places - the throat area, between the eyebrows, and the tenth gate at the top of the head. At the tenth gate, our consciousness connects to the universe, to the skies. With His grace, the soul dissolves into the sky and we find out that it is just Him; there is nothing else except Him.

sabh kichh tooNhai tooNhai mayray pi-aaray tayree kudrat ka-o bal jaa-ee jee-o.

Oh my Beloved, it’s just You! I never was!

Dhaarnaa:

sun nee maa-ay mayree-ay, maiN jogee mili-aa ik

Oh my mother, I have met a Jogee, He’s called True Guru Jogee.

maiN meen vaaNg saaN tarhapdee, vich balday van nee jik

Oh my mother, without my Beloved, I was like a fish out of the water. Not only that I was out of the water, I was in a forest which was on fire - the fire of anger, fire of greed, fire of jealousy, fire of ego, and so on.

oHnay sahij ishk day ambareeN, nee gholi-aa sanoo vich

He dissolved me into the skies of ishq. “I” was just an idea, otherwise if “I” was true then how could I have been dissolved.

The deeper we go into meditation, the more peace and stillness (sahij) we will experience.

sun nee maa-ay mayree-ay, maiN jogee mili-aa ik

Dhaarnaa (end)

There is a letter from a sangat. The writer says that my mind is always wandering and my consciousness is impure too. One day, very early in the morning, I started to do paath (recite prayers) very fast to avoid any thoughts. I was focusing at the navel point as well as at the top of my head. After a short while, I completely lost awareness about the self, that I am or where I am, or what is surrounding me. I was feeling so peaceful and warmth within. He says I have not memorized the morning prayer; I have to look at the Gutka Sahib. But that day I did the whole Nitnem (daily prayers) without looking at Gutka Sahib.

This is the proof that this person had memorized the morning prayers in his previous life, otherwise it is simply not possible. When he went deeper into meditation, the consciousness reached where the memory of morning prayer was already sitting. Please note that we are not going to remember anything in the upper layer of consciousness nor is that going to take us anywhere. We have to take this into the deeper layers of consciousness. And then he says: Baba Ji, since then I have tried many times to recite paath without Gutka Sahib but it hasn’t happened.

Betay, because you tried, it did not happen. See how God gives us the answer right away.

In sangat, this thing settles into the deep layers of our consciousness; it does not happen when we are just by ourselves. We can be by ourselves when we start seeing that it is just Him, just Him!

This is His grace that we come to the holy congregation. It’s His grace that we do meditation, it’s His grace that He takes us deep into meditation, it’s His grace that He makes us realize our soul and beyond.

Dhaarnaa:

aj vakat noo puchhadee rahee, kinjh pa-ee eih kahaanee see

Today I kept asking every coming moment; how did this love story come into being?

pair pair tay karam ho-i-aa….

The coming moments revealed to me the secret that every moment is carrying our Creator’s grace. Every moment is pregnant with His grace, ready to deliver to us if we are present to receive the delivery. But if we are not present, if we are thinking, and our mind is somewhere else, then every moment that was sent to bless us just left without unloading on the way.

par tooN anjaanee see…..

You kept thinking it was you who was doing it. It was Him who was doing it with you.

pair pair tay karam ho-i-aa, par tooN anjaanee see

Dhaarnaa (end)

We can see that if we are not attending to the purpose of life with urgency then who knows which thought is going to come up during our last breath. Maharaj Ji says:

saykh fareedaa panth samHaar savayraa.

Do this task in the early stage of your life so you can celebrate the whole life.
