ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

॥ ਜਪੁ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥  ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

Let us please sit straight. This is another form of Jat Pahaaraa simran. In this, we are going to say Wahe at the deepest point in our body. Those of us who can see from within, the center of the membrane which touches the ground when we sit cross legged; we are going to say Wahe there, and then at the heart area, hirdaa, we are going to say Guru.

ਜਤੁ ਪਾਹਾਰਾ ਧੀਰਜੁ ਸੁਨਿਆਰੁ

jat paahaaraa Dheeraj suni-aar.

ਅਹਰਣਿ ਮਤਿ ਵੇਦੁ ਹਥੀਆਰੁ

ahran mat vayd hathee-aar.

We have to keep moving from down below, Wahe, then up in the hirdaa, Guru; with full concentration. Our consciousness should become so conscious, so alert about the fact that this is what we are here for on this planet.

Wahe Guru Wahe Guru Wahe Guru Wahe Guru……………….

Please feel the presence of the Divine at the heart area; some power moving; moving because it’s alive. That is the source of all lives.

We are alive because of this power. This is the power who created us, and this is the power who is keeping us alive. This is the power who is breathing into us, and out of us. This is the power who is beating our heart, pulse. This is the power that is making our lungs function. This is the power who runs our kidneys, from the very moment one enters into this world to the last breath. This is that power! That being!

This is the power that makes us go to sleep. The words his or her are immaterial because this power is not gender oriented. This is just pure holy power, spirit! This is that power which lends us energy to walk, to work, to listen, to talk, to see, to understand.

Please stay there, and keep feeling that power. That is the Creator; it is just showing us His weakest presence because that’s what we can tolerate. This is the power, if it wants it can end the whole creation instantly, in a blink; it won’t even take a blink of an eye’s time.

Before COVID broke out, we were revisiting how the Divine light worked through Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj in ten human bodies, and then now the eleventh form of that Divine light is Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He promised in his tenth appearance that from now onward, I will operate out of Guru Granth Sahib Ji; I am placing the Divine light in Guru Granth Sahib Ji. We were revisiting the third appearance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The name of the new body would change every time but the Gurbaanee, the utterances which were uttered through everybody, the name Nanak was used. Even though the name of the body in which He operated during His second appearance was Guru Angad Dev Ji, in all the utterances uttered by Guru Angad Dev Ji, He used the name Nanak at the end of every hymn.

We are going to briefly remind ourselves how this unique miracle happened in the history of mankind. On Page 966 of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Maharaj Ji states:

ਨਾਉ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਾਦਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਬੋਲੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜੋਖੀਵਦੈ

naa-o kartaa kaadar karay ki-o bol hovai jokheevadai.

Through whom the Divine operates Himself, that person’s name becomes famous and his utterances cannot be valued, cannot be fathomed, cannot be measured, cannot be weighed. He says the utterances, Gurbaanee cannot be weighed, cannot be valued; they are invaluable because that’s God directly speaking to humanity. Directly! When God would want to sing through him, Guru Nanak Dev Ji would ask his companion Mardana Ji to pick up the rabab (string instrument), the Divine is ready to sing. He didn’t say that I am ready to speak.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji says that my Guru is God.

ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਏਕੈ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ ॥

aad ant aykai avtaaraa

ਸੋਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਝਿਯਹੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥

so-ee guroo samjhee-o hamaaraa

Maharaj Ji said my Guru is God and Gurbaanee are the utterances of the Guru, or Gurbaanee is utterances of God. He said my message is to all of humanity; the whole humanity are my children and this is for the whole humanity. That Divine light operated through Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Guru Nanak Dev Ji is not the name of a body. That’s why in every appearance, even though the names are different, but every time an utterance came, the name Nanak was used - that Nanak is testifying that this is God’s utterance.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਮੁਹਹੁ ਕਢਾਏ

satgur kee banee sat sat kar jaanhu gursikhahu har kartaa aap muhhu kadhaa-ay.

He says God is making me say this. In other words, God is saying this.

Guru Nanak does not belong to any religion. He did not establish any religion, No! He said I love all religions; all prophets are mine. He says, Jesus, Allah, Ram, Mohammad Sahib, Buddha, they all are mine. Think about it. He showed humanity that truth is not to divide humanity into different religions; truth is to unite humanity into oneness.

ਨਾਨਕਿ ਰਾਜੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਕੋਟੁ ਸਤਾਣੀ ਨੀਵ ਦੈ

naanak raaj chalaa-i-aa sach kot sataanee neev dai.

Maharaj Ji says that through Guru Nanak, the Divine transformed the human body to a fortress of truth. The human body to whom people would say I am a worldly person, through Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Divine transformed that human body to the fortress of truth in which the Divine dwells, truth dwells. No illusion, no falsehood can enter within. So, He transformed the human body, the worldly human body, to the fortress of truth. He says, I live within this fortress and anyone who comes within cannot be touched with falsehood, with maya. And one thing more:

ਸਚੁ ਕੋਟੁ ਸਤਾਣੀ ਨੀਵ ਦੈ

sach kot sataanee neev dai.

He says the fortress of truth that God made through Guru Nanak, was established on the strongest foundation. What is the foundation? Ik Oankaar. The foundation is that this is all one. Can anybody shake that foundation and say that no, there is not One. How beautiful! See how God talks, His language is so beautiful!

So, the last time we left was when God, through Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s third appearance, established a daily way of living life.

During His first appearance, Guru Nanak Dev Ji told everyone that we should get up very early in the morning, take bath, and then do the paath (recitation) of Japjee Sahib. The other four baanee’s of Nitnem had not been not uttered yet. Following the recitation of Japjee Sahib, sing Gurbaanee with totally focused consciousness, then do the duties during the day while keeping the Divine in remembrance. In the evening, discuss God’s utterances, and then sing so dar kayhaa so ghar kayhaa, then Aartee and Sohilaa. This was in Kartaarpur Sahib and those who were connected to Kartaarpur, people used to call them Kartaarpuree-ay. 

He said Amrit Vaylaa, very early hours of the morning, is the most blessed time of the 24 hours. If we feel the Divine at the early hours, then our whole day remains colored with God’s presence. We must come to deewaan in the morning and listen to Aasaa Dee Vaar. There is a proverb in Punjabi that if the first person you meet in the morning is a good soul, then the whole day is going to be pleasant. If we meet the Divine first thing in the morning, then how beautiful the day would be!

Dhaarnaa:

This dhaarnaa is that: oh my Beloved, you met me first thing in the morning, and my whole day passed like I was passing through a fragrance.

ਵੇਲੇ…..ਅਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੱਥੇ ਸੀ ਤੂੰ ਲੱਗਿਆ……ਮਹਿਕ ਜਿਹਾ…. ਦਿਨ ਲੰਘਿਆ

vaylay…….amrit mathay see tooN lagi-aa…….mahik jihaa…….din langhi-aa 

ਉਸ…ਵੇਲੇ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਦਾ…….ਜਰਾ ਕੁ ਸਾਨੂੰ…..ਮੂੰਹ ਦਿੱਸਿਆ

us vaylay dee mahimaa daa jaraa ku saanoo mooNh disi-aa

The glory of that time was revealed when I remained peaceful all day. That revealed the glory of the amrit vaylaa.

ਜਿਨਾ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਨਿ ਪਿਰ ਬਾਹਰੇ

jinaa piree pi-aar ki-o jeevan pir baahray.

Maharaj Ji says that those who have ishq with the Divine, cannot exist without Him. They would rather die, than not to feel him.

ਫਰੀਦਾ ਬਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਇਐ ਬੈਸਣਾ ਸਾਂਈ ਮੁਝੈ ਦੇਹਿ

fareedaa baar paraa-i-ai baisnaa saaN-ee mujhai na deh.

He says, oh my Beloved, do not let me sit at the doorstep of my mind. Please do not make me a beggar at the doorstep of my mind.

ਜੇ ਤੂ ਏਵੈ ਰਖਸੀ ਜੀਉ ਸਰੀਰਹੁ ਲੇਹਿ

jay too ayvai rakhsee jee-o sareerahu layhi.

And if you want to make me sit at the doorstep of my mind, then rather than doing that please kill me! Just kill me! How would I live without you? How? I have ishq with you.

We are ishq! How did we become something different, and now how do we go back to our true self?

ਗਾਵੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਭਾਉ

gaavee-ai sunee-ai man rakhee-ai bhaa-o.

ਅਨੰਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ

anand bha-i-aa mayree maa-ay satguroo mai paa-i-aa.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਜੀਆ ਵਾਧਾਈਆ

satgur ta paa-i-aa sahj saytee man vajee-aa vaaDhaa-ee-aa.

ਰਾਗ ਰਤਨ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਪਰੀਆ ਸਬਦ ਗਾਵਣ ਆਈਆ

raag ratan parvaar paree-aa sabad gaavan aa-ee-aa.

gaavee-ai, gaa-o, gaavan means to sing.

Maharaj Ji keeps saying: sing Gurbaanee, sing Gurbaanee, sing Gurbaanee! What happens when you sing Gurbaanee?

There are four things which affect our consciousness. Those four things are spoken words by someone or even the self, music, pictures, and written words when we see them. Two things are music and singing, and the other two are related to seeing - pictures and words. When we sing or music is played, these two things produce vibrations which produce a power which affects the listener. The vibrations that are produced within us when we sing Gurbaanee, makes our consciousness healthy. Those vibrations affect the consciousness of the singer as well as the listener. The music that is played in raagaas also produces vibrations. These are not worldly vibrations; the vibrations produced by the music in raagaas also makes our consciousness healthy.

Whenever we utter anything false; not necessarily a lie; for example, saying I did that, is a false statement. There is no me, so how can you say I did this. This is a false statement. So whenever we say anything false or negative that creates vibrations within us which hurt our consciousness, which fractures our consciousness, which makes our consciousness fragmented. Aashiqi (ishqful) consciousness is one piece, it cannot be broken into pieces, while the mind’s consciousness is scattered. We have to understand how this becomes scattered. Because we did it, we broke it into pieces, we hurt it, and now the mind’s consciousness is not one piece; it is broken into many pieces - a part hates someone, a part likes someone, a part is angry at someone, and so on.

When we sing Gurbani, vibrations are created, and the power in those vibrations is positive power that heals our consciousness, and slowly makes our consciousness into one piece. We all are carrying wounds in us. Nobody else has created those wounds. We ourselves did that by making false statements, by talking negatively, by slandering, and if we say that that person wounded me, then it means you must have been out of the fortress of truth. You can’t complain because when you are out in the street there’s always a chance that you will get hurt. You went out of the fortress of truth and somebody said something negative to you and you got wounded.

How did we become what we are today? Fragmented consciousness, wounded consciousness. unpeaceful consciousness.

And now Maharaj Ji is making us ishq.

Dhaarnaa:

ਮੇਰਾ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਬਣਨ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਅ ਕਰਦਾ

mayraa ishq banan noo jee kardaa

I long to become ishq!

ਬਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਾਂ ਮਾਲਾ ਖਿਆਲਾਂ ਦੀ……. ਅੱਜ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਣ ਨੂੰ ਜੀਅ ਕਰਦਾ

banee ho-ee haaN maalaa khi-aalaaN dee…..aj tut jaan noo jee kardaa

Right now, I’m a maalaa (rosary) of thoughts; thoughts keep coming one after the other. I just want to break this maalaa and break the continuity of the thoughts.
