ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
॥ ਜਪੁ॥
ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥
Ji, we have seen that 22 cots (manjees) were given to blessed souls. In addition, other Gurmukhs were blessed by Guru Amar Das Ji with the seva to spread the message of Sikhi. Bhai Darbari Ji from village Majitha in district Amritsar; he used to worship gods and goddesses, came to Goindwal Sahib to have darshan of Guru Amar Das Ji and found the path to realize the truth. He stayed at Goindwal Sahib, did lots of meditation and seva and reached heights of consciousness. Maharaj Ji gave him the responsibility to spread the message of Sikhi in Majitha. Until his last breath, he carried out this seva.
Another, Bhai Bua Ji from Sri Hargobindpur in district Gurdaspur. He came to Guru Amar Das Ji and with His grace, eradicated ego through meditation and service. Maharaj Ji blessed him by calling him paramhans (supreme swan, meaning someone who has reached a very high state of consciousness) and blessed him with the service of spreading the message of Sikhi.
Another, Bhai Raja Ram Ji who was a Pandit, a very learned person, and was very good at the knowledge of the Vedas, Shastras and other Hindu scriptures. He heard that Guru Amar Das Ji is making everyone eat together. He came to Goindwal Sahib and said to Maharaj Ji that by doing this, religion is going to be destroyed. Guru Amar Das Ji said that Guru Nanak Dev Ji said:
ਸਗਲੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਤੂ ਸੋਈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
saglee jot jaataa too so-ee mili-aa bhaa-ay subhaa-ay.
That everyone is carrying the same Divine light and this is how Guru Nanak Dev Ji asked the world to love each other. So, our religion is Naam, our religion is ishq with God. Hearing this, he fell at the feet of Guru Amar Das Ji and spent the rest of his life talking to people about this path. Even during the tenth appearance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the people of this Pandit’s generation took Amrit (holy nectar) and spread the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Gobind Singh Ji in Doaba. Even today, their generation is living in the village Sidhwan of Jalandhar district.
Let’s please become focused at the hirdaa (heart area).
ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥

While staying at the hirdaa and feeling the Divine or going around it.

Please stay at the hirdaa.
Maharaj Ji is telling us this beautiful way of living human life. Living human life this way, we realize our true selves and dissolve into the Divine. Sometimes we make things difficult on purpose; we ask how we walk on this path while we are in the world. If a mother is out in the bazaar or at work, and she has a little one at home, does she have to do anything different to remember her child? No, she always remembers the child. Just walking the path you receive everything. What a way, how beautiful, how glorious!
In Mool Mantar, the last word Maharaj Ji says Gurparsad - that what you are here for is to realize your true self; that is not you, it is Him. Maharaj Ji says that can happen only with the grace of the Guru.
The last thing Maharaj Ji mentions in Japji Sahib, which in itself is the complete knowledge of truth. At the end, Maharaj Ji talks about air, water, earth, day and night.
ਪਵਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਮਹਤੁ ॥
pavan guroo paanee pitaa maataa Dharat mahat.
We worship the Guru - installing Him on the throne, swinging Chaur Sahib over Him, and placing a Chandoa Sahib over His head where He is seated, and all that. So, this is His reverence and worship. To be in ishq is to worship, is to revere. Hirdaa is the place of worship, the place where ishq is worshiped. When we feel the Divine in the hirdaa, we feel the ishq, we circumambulate around His presence in the hirdaa.
Indigenous people all over the world in America, Canada, South America, Australia, New Zealand worship the sun, earth, water, fire.
Please look closely. Maharaj Ji says be grateful to the air; because of it, you are alive. Japji Sahib ends in the deepest feeling of gratitude. Maharaj Ji says that wind is like your Guru; see how you revere the Guru and you worship Him and you feel so grateful. Similarly worship the wind in your consciousness, be so grateful for the wind.
We think we are separate and now Maharaj Ji is making us understand that you cannot live without air - so are you separate from the air? If the earth is taken away from below your feet, will you be able to survive? So are you separate from the earth? If water is taken away will you be able to survive? So, are you really separate and your existence is separate from the rest of His creation? Only the ego does that - makes one feel separate.
Maharaj Ji says be ever grateful for the wind, feel ever grateful for the water, ever grateful for the earth, and ever grateful for the day, and ever grateful for the night.
When the day arrives, you can see His beautiful creation everywhere. You keep running all day long and then the night comes - He says get some rest, you have been running around. He gave us a house to rest. When the day comes, feel grateful that you can earn a living. The night comes, feel grateful that you can rest. See the beauty! In innocence we say that I only recognize God. Those who worship the sun, water, air, fire we feel they are just doing it out of innocence, but it is very deep. The difference here is that the wind, the water, the earth, the day and night should be worshiped, revered, and be felt so grateful about. But by doing that we can never recognize our true self or meet God. For that, you need the Guru and He shows you the path.
These things must get embedded in our consciousness now. All the time we should recognize something or another to be grateful.

Maharaj Ji says, O my dear friends, you are not, it’s the Divine. Let us wake up and recognize this! Why have we delayed so long in doing this, O my precious friends?
Vatan means country. Your country is your body.
ਬਾਲ ਕੇ ਦੀਵੇ……ਦਿਲ ਬਨੇਰੇ…..ਯਾਰ ਉਡੀਕਿਆ ਨਾ ਕਿਉਂ
baal kay deevay………dil banayray…..yaar udeeki-aa naa kioN
Why didn’t you light up the lamps at the rooftops of your hirdaa and wait for your Beloved? While singing this, please feel Him in the hirdaa, and if you don’t feel Him then wait for Him.
ਸੁੰਞੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਿਉਂ ….ਡਰ ਨਾ ਲੱਗਿਆ……ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਵਾਜ ਨਾ ਲੋਅ
suNjay aNdar kioN….dar naa lagi-aa……naa ko-ee vaaj naa lo
Your insides have been empty. There’s no sound within, no Anhad Naad (Celestial Music) and there’s no light within. How come this empty inside (no sound, no light) didn’t frighten you while our Beloved is constantly singing songs of ishq in the form of Anhad Naad and He’s constantly lighting up our insides with Divine light.

Earlier also we talked about the role of mothers.
Rose Kennedy was the mother of President John F. Kennedy. When she passed away at the age of 104, his son Ted Kennedy said some words at her burial. She was the mother of nine children; four sons, out of which two were assassinated and one was killed in the military. The fourth son who survived said that our mother was the pillar of our family. We faced many dark times in our life and during those times our mother took care of us. Her faith in God was very strong because of which she was very resilient and strong. During those tough times, the strength that she displayed to the family was her biggest gift to us. She was not only the mother of her children who were very famous - one became president, the other was going to become president but was assassinated. One of her daughters spent her whole life in the wheelchair, never spoke anything, nor could she hear anything. Great mothers are those who are strong.
After 1984, I saw mothers who had lost all their sons. They were living alone and I would be amazed at the strength of these mothers. They accepted everything as God’s will. This love and strength that mothers can give is the biggest gift to children. Even Ted Kennedy said that our mother was extremely loving. When one of us would get her, she would put on a bandage while reciting something from The Bible.
My daughters and sisters who are mothers, I have seen that sometimes you are left alone with children and there is no other support. But I see your courage and strength. Sometimes, a child of mine loses heart but dear daughters, please do not lose heart. Life gives us an opportunity to grow and become very strong and to make us realize that you have such a big power hidden within you that can not only withstand these challenges but also rise from it. I am reminded of an example of someone from sangat, a mother who was left alone with two children. She raised both her children to be very successful. How courageous! So, please all my sisters, do not waiver. Guru Nanak Dev Ji dwells within us. Talk to Him; even in those tough times, sing your joys and sorrows to Him. Maharaj Ji says:
ਦੂਖ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਹਿ ਆਖੀਅਹਿ ਸੂਖ ਜਿਸੈ ਹੀ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
dookh tisai peh aakhee-ahi sookh jisai hee paas.
He says, talk to me about your sorrows and I will show you the way to feel peaceful.
ਦੇਹ ਛਿਜੰਦੜੀ ਊਣ ਮਝੂਣਾ
dayh chhijand-rhee oon majhoonaa
Maharaj Ji says without the presence of the Divine within, we always feel empty and depressed.
ਗੁਰਿ ਸਜਣਿ ਜੀਉ ਧਰਾਇਆ ॥
gur sajan jee-o Dharaa-i-aa.
The True Guru met me, and I recognized that He is my true friend. His presence, His being made me still, made me strong. How beautiful!
ਹਭੇ ਸੁਖ ਸੁਹੇਲੜਾ ਸੁਤਾ
habhay sukh suhaylrhaa sutaa
Guru made me unite with the Divine, and now I feel that I have all kinds of comforts, peace, stillness.
ਜਿਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
jitaa jag sabaa-i-aa.
Previously I used to feel so insecure, now I feel I have conquered the whole world.
Dhaarnaa:
ਉਪਰ ਛਿੜਕੋ ਸੋਹਣੇ….ਮਾਹੀ ਦੇ…..ਪਾਸਾਰ ਦੀ ਧੂੜਾ
upar chhirhko sohnay…maahee day paasaar dee Dhoorhaa
How beautiful are His songs.
And then spray upon me the knowledge, the beautiful knowledge, the beautiful spray that it’s all Him, it’s all His expanse.
ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਹੀਂ ਪਾਉ…ਉਸ ਦੇ…ਨੀ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਦਾ ਚੂੜਾ
mayray baaheeN paa-o….us day…..nee ishq daa choorhaa
Please make me wear the bangles of His ishq. Please give me the bangles of His ishq to wear in my arms.
ਮੈਂ ਘੁੱਟ ਕਲੇਜੇ…ਨਾਲ ਨੀ….ਲਾਵਾਂ ਅੱਤ ਪਿਆਰਾਂ

I want to embrace so tightly.
