ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥
A very beautiful daughter of mine from Iran came to let me be in her presence in the kulli the day before yesterday. She said that she has been to a few aashrams in India and gave me this letter. It says: Baba Ji, can you please help me and tell me how to open my heart in order to attain liberation. I am doing a lot of saadhnaa with yogic practices but I feel my heart is not open yet. Can you please help me? Thank you very much.
We should be very clear about everything. When we say I want to attain liberation, are we 100% clear in our mind what liberation means? We should be very clear about it and that’s what the holy congregation is about. This is the beauty of saadhsangat. Maharaj Ji says that the Divine dwells in the holy congregation. That is where you would very quietly be given the answer to your questions; very silently, quietly, privately, personally.
Let's please put our focus at the hirdaa. Hirdaa is the spot, just a little bit left of the street of ishq, behind the heart. Hirdaa is the bar of truth. Because it’s a drinking place, it cannot be in the center of the street (Baba Ji laughs); it has to be off, that’s why that spot.
Everything is so amazing. He has made such beautiful arrangements to make our lives heaven; heaven is nothing. Maharaj Ji says:
ਦਰ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬੈਕੁੰਠੈ ਕਰੈ ਕਿਆ ॥
dar darsan kaa pareetam hovai mukat baikunthay karai ki-aa.
He says the one who wants to meet Me is not going to ask for heavens. What is he going to get in heaven? They say there are rivers of milk and honey in heaven. There’s enough of that here in this world (Baba Ji laughs).
Betay (dear child), just learn to become focused at the heart. Heart area (hirdaa) cannot be opened with any yogic practices or stretches. It’s not a muscle, it’s a point where the Divine awaits to meet us. His seat is right deep within our head and He descends to the hirdaa to meet us there, and from there He takes us upstairs into His mansion.
ਕਰਮੀ ਆਵੈ ਕਪੜਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੋਖੁ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
karmee aavai kaprhaa nadree mokh du-aar.
Maharaj Ji says you are the truth; God Himself, who is wearing the robe of the human body; who is hidden in the human body. How beautiful a robe He is wearing! How pure, sacred is this temple.
Please remain totally focused at the hirdaa and feel with acute consciousness, some presence there. That is the presence of God, Allah; presence of Allah.
Every day we get up, shower, brush our teeth and so on. These chores are related to the body and we do them without much awareness because it’s a habit. The value of the human body is because God dwells within it.
ਨਰੂ ਮਰੈ ਨਰੁ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
naroo marai nar kaam na aavai.
ਪਸੂ ਮਰੈ ਦਸ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰੈ ॥
pasoo marai das kaaj savaarai.
Mahara Ji says your human body is so precious not because God is hidden in it; God is hidden in all His creation; it is because God reveals Himself in a human body, that’s why it is precious. He says if you never realized who you are then you’re worse than an animal. He says when an animal dies, other animals eat his flesh, his skin is used to make shoes, his bones are used to make fertilizer but He says a person who did not realize God is not worth anything, he’s worse than an animal. These words are not coming out of some contempt. They are coming out of most love, and frustration too that you don’t understand the value of human life. It’s out of His utter compassion. He feels the pain of our loss.
Maharaj Ji has given the name Sikh to seekers of truth. A Sikh means the one who seeks constant guidance from the True Guru every day. We’re asked to do Nitnem (the daily prayers); that’s us seeking guidance from the True Guru. Everyday He motivates us, He reminds us that you’re something so beautiful; do not remain content with this state of your consciousness which is unpeaceful and all that. He motivates us everyday, He reminds us everyday.
It’s the love in us for the Guru, it’s our surrendering to Him, which makes us do whatever He asks us to do without thinking because His condition is: bring your heart to me not your head.
ਜਉ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਖੇਲਣ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥
jau tau prem khelan kaa chaau ||
ਸਿਰੁ ਧਰਿ ਤਲੀ ਗਲੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਉ ॥
sir dhar talee galee meree aau ||
He says if you want to play this game of Ishq then bring your heart to me, not the head. This game is not to be played with heads, it’s to be played with hearts.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਲੇਹ ॥
mayray man naam nit nit layh.
He says just like you do other physical chores every day, remember God every day; it’s the most important thing; this is what you’re here for.
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਲੇਹ ॥
mayray man naam nit nit layh.
As we are singing, there should be so much love and joy in it! Please do not rush (while singing). We are so peaceful indeed, not in a hurry, because there is nothing to be gained. You’re the truth itself, what are you going to be in a hurry for?
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੇ ਹੋਤ ਦੇਖੇ ਖੇਹ ॥
jinee naam visaari-aa say hot daykhay khayh.
He says, I have seen the ones who have forgotten the creator, they have become dust. He says they are worthless.
ਐਸੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਭੂਲਿ ਪਰੇ ॥
aisay kaahay bhool paray.
He asks us: Oh, my dear ones, why are you wandering like this in delusion?
Then He answers. He asks the question and waits for our answer. Then He says, this is the answer; compare your answer with this.
ਮਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਮੈ ਛਡਿ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਕਸੁੰਭੈ ਭੁਲੀ ॥
mitar pi-aaraa naanak jee mai chhad gavaa-i-aa rang kasumbhai bhulee.
He says, the answer is: Nanak Ji, I forsook my true friend. I got mesmerized by the world; the flashy world blinded me and I could not see the truth. I thought the colors which the world was showing me were true colors but they turned out to be totally false. That’s what happened to me.
ਤਉ ਸਜਣ ਕੀ ਮੈ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਉਦੀ ਹਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਢੁ ਨ ਲਹਦੀ ॥
ta-o sajan kee mai keem na pa-udee ha-o tuDh bin adh na lahdee.
I did not recognize your worth, oh my Beloved, that’s why I am worthless today. I am of no worth! You are asking, why did this happen to me that I am worthless? This is what happened to me. I thought the color which the world was showing was true. But no, the true colors were different. That’s why I am wandering like this today, worthless.
ਮਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਮੈ ਛਡਿ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਕਸੁੰਭੈ ਭੁਲੀ ॥
mitar pi-aaraa naanak jee mai chhad gavaa-i-aa rang kasumbhai bhulee.
Oh, my dear Nanak Ji, this is what happened to me. The colors of the world fooled me. I thought this could not happen to me. You would say You warned me but I was not capable of hearing You at that time. The worldly colors fooled me.
Dhaarnaa:
ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਦ ਦਾ ਤੀਰ ਅੱਜ….. ਵੱਜਿਆ ਵੇ
tayray dard daa teer aj…. vaji-aa vay
You asked me how come you’re wandering around worthless and the pain I feel in your words; I am feeling your pain in this question of yours, and that arrow of your pain has struck me.
ਹਉਮੈ ਛੱਡ ਗਵਾਉਂਦੀ ਸੱਚੇ….ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ
houmai chhad gava-ouNdee sachay…..mitraaN noo
ਕਾਚ ਬਿਹਾਝਨ ਕੰਚਨ ਛਾਡਨ ਬੈਰੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤੁ ਸਾਜਨ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਖਰੇ ॥
kaach bihaajhan kanchan chhaadan bairee sang hayt saajan ti-aag kharay.
Maharaj Ji says you forsook your true friend.
ਹਉਮੈ ਛੱਡ ਗਵਾਉਂਦੀ ਸੱਚੇ….ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ
houmai chhad gava-ouNdee sachay…..mitraaN noo
He says it’s the ego which fools us and you are the ego; you fooled yourself. You fooled yourself because you moved away from the truth. You are living in the darkness, in the delusion, in the falsehood; that’s what the world is - illusion, darkness, falsehood.
ਰੰਗ ਮਜੀਠੇ ਦਾ ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਨੂੰ…..ਦੱਸਿਆ ਵੇ
raNg majeethay daa kasumbhay noo…dasi-aa vay
It’s my ego who convinced me that this is the fast color, it’s not going to fade away, and I trusted my ego and Nanak Ji that’s why I am like this today.
ਕਾਚ ਬਿਹਾਝਨ ਕੰਚਨ ਛਾਡਨ ਬੈਰੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤੁ ਸਾਜਨ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਖਰੇ ॥
kaach bihaajhan kanchan chhaadan bairee sang hayt saajan ti-aag kharay.
He says you know what you’re here on this planet called Earth to trade the truth, to purchase the truth but instead, you purchased glass. Maharaj Ji is hinting that all the relationships are like glass; you have to take care of them so delicately. Don’t think that this relationship is unbreakable. He says you are living in the world of glass where everything is so fragile, so undependable. All relationships are like glass, all the wealth is like glass that can be gone anytime. He says everything worldly is like glass, and you are here to purchase the truth but your ego took you to the bazaar of glass. This is what has happened!
ਸੁੱਚਾ ਕੰਚਨ ਵਿਹਾਝਨ….ਆਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ
suchaa kaNchan vihaajhan,,,,,,,,aa-i-aaN noo
ਬਜ਼ਾਰ ਕੱਚ ਦੇ ਹਾਏ…..ਤੋਰ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਵੇ
bazaar kach day haa-ay……tor chhadi-aa vay
Please remain focused and feel the presence of the truth there.
The question was:
How is the jail on the outside and freedom inside?
Because outside we have the freedom to go anywhere but our consciousness always remains in jail; the jail is our own little world that we have created. We have created our own little delusional world inside the true world of the divine. How smart we are! We are more creative than him. (Baba Ji laughs). Because of our little world, our consciousness always remains within our world, within that jail. Our worlds which we have created are the jail. We have constructed this jail ourselves, so articulately, and every day we are making the walls of that jail thicker and thicker and thicker. That’s what a man spends his whole life for.
When we go within and feel the Divine presence, instantly we are out of the jail and you don’t feel that you are inside somewhere. Then, with meditation, a stage comes, that you don’t feel the presence of your body at all and we become one with the skies, and you see yourself as expansive as the skies. This is freedom!
My daughter from Iran said she wanted to attain liberation. It means we want to get out of the jail which we have created for ourselves. Are you really ready? One has to be very brave to do that.
We will be fearful but it is a false fear, And it’s not that you will start hating everyone in your little world. The walls of the jail will break and our little world is replaced by a world that is very expansive, So, do we lose something or get something? All the youth are worried that they will lose something. This is such a misguided understanding. As one grows older, the walls of the jail keep getting stronger and stronger, and in the younger ages there is fear.
Betay (dear child), I want to say this especially to my young sons and daughters: don’t think you’re going to be deprived of anything or that you’re going to lose anything, No! Don’t think you’re going to become indifferent towards this world of yours. Now your love is conditional, then your love is going to be unconditional. The walls of the jail are going to be demolished and you’re going to have such a vast world of yours; everybody would be yours, every house would be yours! I guarantee you that if you become the truth, you knock at any door and they will open the door for you.
Imagine a life where you become fearless because you’re everybody’s friend. There is no skepticism in you. You know that if you are everybody’s friend, how can anybody be your enemy? What's the chance of becoming fearful?
This is what we are here for. First make the jail and then destroy it.
Youth, please don’t think that you have not created a jail; your jail is very strong. The two thoughts which are always following you wherever you go very strongly.
Dhaarnaa:
ਪਿਆਸੀ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਰੂਹ ਮੇਰੀ…..ਰੁੱਖੀ ਸੁੱਕੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਚ’....ਲੱਭਣ ਆਈ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਸਉਣ
pi-aasee pi-aasee rooH mayree……rukhee sukee dunee-aa ch……labhan aa-ee kiHrhaa soun
He takes us out of the jail and brings us into the drinking place; drinking of truth. He says now sit here and let’s have a heartful drink of truth and become and remain intoxicated. You would see what a blessing life is!
ਭਾਗ ਬਡੇ ਤੈ ਪਾਇਓ ਤੂੰ ਭਰਿ ਭਰਿ ਪੀਉ ਕਬੀਰ॥
bhaag baday tai paa-i-o tooN bhar bhar pee-o kabeer.
Kabeer Sahib says I am so fortunate that I found the the truth; I keep drinking and remain intoxicated.
ਪਿਆਸੀ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਰੂਹ ਮੇਰੀ…..ਰੁੱਖੀ ਸੁੱਕੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਚ’....ਲੱਭਣ ਆਈ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਸਉਣ
pi-aasee pi-aasee rooH mayree……rukhee sukee dunee-aa ch……labhan aa-ee kiHrhaa soun
Our world is not this world; our world is our jail and that’s not full of love. Let’s face it, that’s dry. Ego’s are dry.
ਆਸੇ ਜਿਹੇ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ…..ਸਿਆਣਦੀ ਮੁੜੰਗੇ ਫਿਰਾਂ……ਖੌਰੇ….ਆਸੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਹੋਣਾ
aasay jihay nainaaN naal….si-aaNdee murhaNgay firaaN…..khouray aasay paasay o hee honaa
I am here in this world which is dry and all egoistic. I am looking for someone, I am trying to recognize the one who is Ishq. I am looking at all the faces and asking: Is this Him? Is this Him? Is this Him?
With hopeful eyes, I am looking at every face wondering, is this my true friend? Is this my true friend?
I’ve heard that He’s not away from me. I am looking at every face asking: Is this Him? Is this Him?

Please remain totally grounded, peaceful because the Divine reveals Himself in the totally peaceful inside and dwells in a totally peaceful home. The moment we become unpeaceful he takes off, even as the thought of becoming unpeaceful comes, he disappears, he says this place is not worth living for me, I cannot live in a place like this.
The divine revealed within me when I was in total peace when my insides were totally silent.
