2475 - Khajana Darshan August 1, 2022 – Calgary (English Translation)

Transliteration Key for Gurbani

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

॥ ਜਪੁ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥  ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਆਰ

man ray ki-o chhooteh bin pi-aar.

Please become focused either at the forehead or at the heart area, behind the heart.

Maharaj Ji says that unless and until you become ishq yourself, you cannot get out of the cycle of life and death, worries, anxieties, stress.

Mr. Warren Hamerman wrote in an article in the American Scientific Journal disclosing what scientists had learned. He says they have learned that a mysterious power is vibrating in each and every thing and at varying frequency per second. They say it’s a special power but do not say God because scientists do not like to acknowledge the presence of God. God has created countless things so this power is vibrating at countless frequencies throughout His creation, whether it is in stones, these sheets we are sitting on, walls, table, pen, paper, everything! That is why Maharaj Ji says, hai bhee sach - He is, and He is everything. In the universe, vibrations happen from the lowest frequencies to the highest frequencies and they found out that in humans, that power is vibrating with the highest frequency, that is 570 trillion times per second! This is unimaginable! And the surprising thing is that our mind, which has deluded us into thinking that we are very intelligent, has no idea about who we are. The mind’s job is to keep us in the darkness of ignorance. It is amazing that the power vibrates within us at such a high frequency but we have no idea - isn’t this shocking ? Why ? Because the consciousness that would have had this knowledge is too busy in the little world that we have created for ourselves. Who are we ? The most amazing thing! We cannot even imagine let alone understand it.

In each of His creation, God’s power is vibrating at a certain frequency. If a dog barks, it is recognized easily that it is a dog. Similarly a nightingale singing, or an elephant or a donkey’s voice can be recognized. God showed the scientists that all frequencies present in the creation are present within a human being, which enables a human to make a wide variety of sounds. Some people can mimic sounds. Also, as we grow our voice changes from childhood to adolescence, and adulthood. We will see how this discovery is related to us ? That vibration is not just a vibration of an ordinary energy, for example the power in engines etc. That vibration is the vibration of ishq!  Maharaj Ji says:

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਛੂਟਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਆਰ

man ray ki-o chhooteh bin pi-aar.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਖਸੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ

gurmukh antar rav rahi-aa bakhsay bhagat bhandaar. ||

Rav rahi-aa means it is operating. It is a signal towards these vibrations. Maharaj Ji says that the ishq is operating in everyone and the gurmukh, the one who is reborn, can clearly witness the miracle happening within him.

Even though God’s presence is very subtle, He makes it possible for us to feel Him easily. But our consciousness is so lost in the world; our ego does not let us find out who we truly are. The day we resolve to find out about our true self, that will be the death of the ego and it does not want to die.

This dhaarnaa, mother, oh, my mother, the great love has touched me, this ishq has touched me - this dhaarnaa is out of this truth.  

Dhaarnaa:

ਮਾਏ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ, ਨੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ, ਇਸ਼ਕ ਨੇ ਹੱਥ ਛੁਹਾਇਆ

maa-ay nee maa-ay, nee saanoo ishq nay hath chhu-haa-i-aa

ਅੰਦਰ ਨਾਚ, ਇਲਾਹੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਤੇ ਸੁਰਤ ਨੇ ਪਿੜ ਬਣਾਇਆ

andar naach ilaahee hovay tay surat nay pirh banaa-i-aa

The divine power is dancing within me at an incredible frequency, and it is dancing right within my consciousness, but most of my consciousness remains busy with the outside world so it doesn’t feel it. How strange!  

The letter that came from a sangat in New Zealand that I feel like surrendering to Him and coming in His will but it is very difficult. Is there an easy way ? Let us see if we understand what Maharaj Ji is saying.  

ਜਿਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਗਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਥ

jit jit laavhu tit lageh har naath.

ਨਾਨਕ ਇਨ ਕੈ ਕਛੂ ਹਾਥ

naanak in kai kachhoo na haath.

He says, nobody has anything in their hands. This is an amazing and revolutionary statement! We must understand this. We have to develop a habit of understanding Gurbani. What does this mean - nobody has anything in their hands ? If we don’t have anything in our hands, then what can we do ? This is a misunderstanding. In many letters, sangat asks that if I don’t have anything in my hands, what is my fault and what can we do ? On the surface, this question seems appropriate. One may also think that maybe there is a little bit in my hands. But Maharaj Ji says kachhoo na haath - nothing is in your hands. Let us understand this. It is not in our hands that we live a life full of ego or take rebirth and live a life without ego. If it was in our hands, we could drop the ego right away. So, it is clear that it is not in our hands. And neither can we take rebirth on our own. This means on our own we cannot become full of ego or egoless. It did not happen on our own. Then how did it happen ? Maharaj Ji says it is not in your hands, whatever happens is going to happen because of an external force. How did we get ego ? The world! If a person lives in a forest with birds and animals and never sees another human being, he or she can never develop ego; there is no presence of the ‘world’ there! On our own we cannot become egoful or egoless; somebody else has to do it for us. Someone else makes us egoful and that somebody is the world. If we want to become egoless, we have to go to God. The world and God - these two have power in their hands, not us. The world makes us a worldly person and God makes us a godly person, the soul. So, somebody from the outside has to do it for us.

Dear God, it is in your hands, please do it.

I will do it, make sure you are present!

If we can see this thing clearly, and it is difficult to see it clearly, then a great secret has been revealed to us - that there is nothing in my hands! We will see that this is not in my hands; I have to beg at His door to transform my consciousness.

In the ninth pauri of Anand Sahib, Maharaj Ji says:

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਉਪਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਪਾਈਐ

tan man Dhan sabh sa-up gur ka-o hukam mani-ai paa-ee-ai.

How do we give tan (body), man (mind), and Dhan (wealth) to the Guru ?

Completely relax your body as if it was dead. The more we have desires and ego within us, the more difficult it is to do so. How can God work! He can only work on us if we surrender to Him. It is very important that when we sit in meditation, the body must be relaxed as if it is lifeless. I receive letters in which the writers share that this happens with them, but if we become alert to this and relax the body, we can move away from it instantly. To move away, Please witness yourself sitting in the space, that this body (not my body) is sitting in the space and the body is very relaxed. This will take practice and once we become expert at it we can experience this state even while walking. Surrender your body to Him.

He says, now give your mind to me. How ? You surrendered your body and relaxed it. Now I will move and vibrate within it, and if you are feeling Me then you have given your mind to me as well. And since the mind made up all the wealth and belongings in the world, that automatically comes along with surrendering the mind. These things sound so easy, and they are easy, but at the same time they are very difficult. This is the second question in the letter from New Zealand - sometimes you say this is the easiest thing in the world, and sometimes you say this is the most difficult thing in the world, and this confuses me. Tomorrow we will see how both of these statements are true.

If we realize that there is nothing in my hands, a great secret has been revealed to us. Surrender this ‘egoistic I’ to God and He is going to give us a ‘new I’. That ‘new I’ actually has no sense of I-ness; the word I is used here only for communication. If we want to become egoless then somebody else has to do it for us, and that somebody is the Guru. The Guru tells us what to do and the Divine does it. The Divine operates through the Guru, speaks through the Guru, and the same Divine vibrates within us.

Dhaarnaa:

I have been bitten by the snakes of separation from the self. We are separate from our own self.   

ਤੇਰੇ ਬਿਰਹੋਂ ਦੇ ਸੱਪ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਡੰਗਦੇ ਰਹੇ।

tayray birhoN day sap saanoo dangdey rahay

ਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਖ਼ੈਰ ਜਿੰਦੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੰਗਦੇ ਰਹੇ

tay aseeN khair jinday tayree mangday rahay

ਉੰਝ ਕੀਲਦੇ ਰਹੇ

unjh keelday rahay naal mantraaN day 

sap fayr vee mohray-oN khaNgh-day rahay

Even though I do meditation, but still the snakes of lust, anger, greed, ego, they are still a challenge for me.

ਕਤਲਨਾਮੇ ਮੁਹੱਬਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਖਿਆਲ ਹੀ ਸੀ

katalnaamay muhabataaN day khi-aal hee see

The divine ishq is playing within me, dancing within me, but the thoughts keep killing them; the thoughts do not let me feel that.

ਦਸਖ਼ਤ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਿੱਤ ਹੀ ਸੰਗਦੇ ਰਹੇ

daskhat karan to nit hee sangday rahay

Every day my mind presented me with a suggestion, that sign here that thoughts can come to you all the time, and you won’t have to fight the thoughts. But I never agreed to sign for that; I wanted to go beyond the thoughts in the space of my Beloved.

 

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਉਪਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਮੰਨਿਐ ਪਾਈਐ

tan man Dhan sabh sa-up gur ka-o hukam mani-ai paa-ee-ai.

Maharaj Ji says give your tan (body), man (mind), and Dhan (wealth) to the Guru and obey His hukam. And how do you obey His hukam ? He says:

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨਿਹੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇਰਾ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ

hukam mannihu guroo kayraa gaavhu sachee banee.

You obey the Guru’s hukam by singing! The dhaarnaas that we sing are a scaffold because it is difficult to sing Gurbani directly. Singing means something that takes over the insides! The dhaarnaas are in simple language that we can understand. If the dhaarnaas start working for us then it can help us sing Gurbani as well. He says, hukam mannihu guroo kayraa, obey the Guru’s hukam. How ? gaavho sachee banee. By singing. Is there something else ? Let’s see the next line.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਕਥਿਹੁ ਅਕਥ ਕਹਾਣੀ

kahai naanak sunhu santahu kathihu akath kahaanee.

He says, hear; sing and hear! He is so worried about us that he makes everything clear to us so finely so there is no doubt left. He says if you sing and hear, your consciousness will be absorbed in it; you will lose sense of this body and surrender it to Me. Now feel me vibrating within you.

A lot of sangat can now witness this body is in space and it is completely still, silent. For others, it will take time for us to reach this stage where we can witness this body sitting in space. But, first we have to pass through the stage of singing and hearing:

ਗਾਵੀਐ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਮਨਿ ਰਖੀਐ ਭਾਉ ॥

gavee-ai suNee-ai man rakhee-ai bhaa-o

Dhaarnaa:

ਤੇ ਗੱਲਾਂ, ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀਆਂ, ਅੱਜ ਚੱਲੀਆਂ ਵੇ

tay galaaN nij dee-aaN aj chali-aaN vay

Today they started talking about the true self.

ਪਰਹਾਂ ਮਨ ਤੋਂ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ

paraaN man to siDhay nahee jaa sakday

It is not possible to go beyond the mind directly.

ਤੇ ਗਲੀ ਸੁਣਨ ਦੀ ਉਹ ਵੜੰਨੀਆਂ ਵੇ

tay galee sunan dee oh varhani-aaN vay

Those who went beyond the mind, first entered the street of hearing.  

ਉੱਥੇ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਨੇ, ਪਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀ ਕੀਤਾ

othay ishq nay, pataa nahee kee keetaa   

ਘਰ ਆਪਣੇ, ਫੜ ਬਹੰਨੀਆਂ ਵੇ

ghar aapney, farh bahanni-aaN vay

ਡਾਢੀ ਘੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਫੜੀ ਉਸ ਬਾਂਹ ਸਾਡੀ

daahdee ghut kay farhee us baaNh saadee

ਤੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਢੁੱਕ ਬਹੰਨੀਆਂ ਵੇ

tay kol aapnay dhuk bahani-aaN vay

 

The ishq caught hold of me firmly within; it caught hold of me by my arm and made me sit so closely within.
