Let us become focused at the hirdaa, the heart area.
parabh ka-o jan antar rid lochai
Guru says that in order to meet the Divine, feel the Divine, one must have a consciousness that is utterly humble, and one must long so intensely for the Divine.
Focus at the heart please and fill your consciousness with utmost humility.
parabh ka-o jan, parabh ka-o jan, parabh ka-o jan,............
That most humble devotee must long for the Divine with all his being.
Hirdaa is just behind our heart, a little bit to the left of the center of the chest. All of our consciousness must be begging for Him to appear there at the hirdaa. If we are doing it right, we would feel tears in our eyes and tears within us. Please stay there and keep feeling Him with a very humble and longing consciousness.
It is a huge miracle to become reborn while being in a human body and God uses Guru for this process. There is no difference between God and Guru. The Guru has form, a body, and Guru speaks. God does not speak, He speaks through the Guru. Guru is not like us, He is a multidimensional phenomenon. The characteristics that Maharaj Ji talks about in Jaap Sahib - they are the characteristics of the Guru and God. The Guru is a miracle, He creates miracles, and has numerous merciful faces.
Maharaj Ji says:
satgur sabdee milai vichhunnee tan man aagai raakhai.
Maharaj Ji says that to be in the presence of the Guru is to be totally here in the present moment, fully focused, with a consciousness that is totally humble, full of love and longing. To be in the presence of the Guru is to become so still, so egoless, that we make ourselves deserving to be touched by the Divine. For God to reveal Himself to us, for God to touch us, we must become worthy of his touch. He touches the consciousness that is full of love, humility, devotion, and longing. Do you have the longing that He comes and touches you in the heart ?
parabh jan kay saas nihaaray.
The Divine watches our breath, how humble is our breath, how full of love is our breath, because our consciousness is connected to the breath. He watches how much longing, how much devotion is in our breath. We have to become deserving to be touched by the Divine and the Guru makes us deserving. How does the Guru do that ? The Guru’s utterances come from the depths of compassion and love, there is no ego in the Guru, so when He speaks, the compassion, love, longing in His utterances come within us.
When our consciousness hears words of anger, it gets angry. If it hears words of love, it feels love. When the consciousness hears the Guru’s utterances, which are filled with infinite love, infinite compassion and humility, that affects our consciousness as well. Whosever we hear, their internal state affects us. So, when we hear the Guru, His state affects us as well. Suni-ai (to hear) actually means that whatever the Guru is saying, those words are wrapped in love, humility, compassion, and when we hear those utterances these feelings enter our consciousness as well.
When the Guru speaks, a miracle happens. He speaks and brings us in a state of humility, generates love within us, and makes us experience compassion. It is a miracle that we become deserving to be touched by the Divine and the Guru makes us deserving, and this happens only in the sadhsangat (holy congregation). This is a magic to be touched by God and the Guru creates this magic because His humility, His love, His compassion, His utter concern for us flows into us and we become humble. The Guru tells us what to do and then the Divine comes and touches us and takes us into another world.
jaisaa satgur suneedaa taiso hee mai deeth.
vichhurhi-aa maylay parabhoo har dargeh kaa baseeth.
The Guru makes us meet the Divine. But many people are mistaken that I don’t need sangat, I believe in Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Guru Granth Sahib Ji is in my home, so I don’t need anyone. Can we ever become humble like that ? No! It will only increase our ego.
We must not accept this present state of our consciousness.
Dhaarnaa:
haa-ay nee mayraa jee nahee lagdaa, ais maiN day naalay
Oh, my sister friends, I do not feel comfortable with this I.
vaaNg jhali-aaN aapay no main vaajaaN maar bulaavaaN
I read the love story which Guru tells me. I read the love story to this egoistic I and I keep calling for my true self like an insane person.
hadaaN day vich peerh rachee noo, ishq dee kathaa sunaavaaN
haa-ay nee ay kathaa sucharhee, painee firaaN udaalay
haa-ay nee mayraa jee nahee lagdaa, ais maiN day naalay
Let us please focus at the hirdaa.
parabh ka-o jan antar rid lochai parabh jan kay saas nihaaray.
We cannot intellectually start breathing in such a way that God sees us peaceful. He is God, He cannot be tricked.
kirpaa kirpaa kar bhagat drirh-aa-ay
Then the Guru bestows immense grace and makes one determined to do a lot of meditation with love and devotion.
Whenever a thought occurs to us about doing more meditation, more holy congregation, more Gurbani, those thoughts come to us from God and should be taken as His command.
kirpaa kirpaa kar bhagat drirh-aa-ay jan peechhai jag nistaaray. ||7||
He may even take one to a stage where one can help others become free from the mind. Who are we to help anyone ? This is His greatness, His way of honoring His devotees.
In the same Shabad Maharaj Ji says.
banee guroo guroo hai banee vich banee amrit saaray.
Let’s have Darshan of this verse, understand and drown in it, and see who the Guru is.
His utterances are a song of love. Guru is ishq, Gurbani is songs of ishq. The Guru creates songs of ishq.
When a poem is written, its structure is thought about, how words connect with each other; there is thinking involved in the process, which is called composition. So, worldly poems are composed. On the other hand, Guru creates songs of ishq. He does not compose, He creates, hence the word creation. He created the creation, He did not make it - there was no thinking involved. The worldly poems are composed. These songs of ishq come from the Guru spontaneously, without thinking.
satgur kee banee sat sat kar jaanhu gursikhahu har kartaa aap muhhu kadhaa-ay.
When we are going to be reborn, is the Guru going to create us or make us ? He creates us!
banee guroo guroo hai banee vich banee amrit saaray.
The Guru is ishq and He creates songs of ishq. This verse means that this song of ishq comes from the Guru, who is ishq, and both are the same thing. The mind will try to differentiate because it likes to create complexity; simple things do not appeal to this mind. Guru is ishq and when He speaks, songs of ishq are created. His utterances, Gurbani, are the songs of ishq. When He is quiet, He is still ishq, the song of ishq is within Him and hasn’t come out yet.
I receive letters from you and it is humbling to see Maharaj Ji taking you to such high stages. Our true self is ishq and songs emanate from that ishq. These are some lines that were created by sangat. Let’s sing together.
Dhaarna:
tainoo kinjh samjhaavaaN meharmaaN, tooN jannat mayree
Oh, my Beloved, I don’t know how to express this to You, but You are the heaven of heavens for me.
jaaN baithayN tooN vay aan kay, dil Dharhkay joree
When I feel You within, my heart starts racing with excitement!
Maharaj Ji says:
banee guroo guroo hai banee vich banee amrit saaray.
What is the meaning of amrit (nectar of immortality) here, based on what we saw earlier ? We have to develop the habit of understanding. The mind’s nature is to look at everything superficially and does not want to understand deeply. Amrit here means ishq, love. Love can never die. What we see in the world is attachment; it is there today and can be gone tomorrow. Ishq is something very holy, it is beyond birth and death, you cannot add to it or take away from it. In Jaap Sahib, Maharaj Ji says:
husnal jamaal haiN
Ishq is forever beautiful, elegant, and radiant. If Maharaj Ji wills, we will have darshan of Jaap Sahib. It is such an amazing baanee - one who hears will become still.
banee guroo guroo hai banee vich banee amrit saaray.
We like singing these verses and just stay there. Now, we have to drown in it. Maharaj Ji uttered these verses In His fourth appearance. The words are Gur Banee Kahai and not Gurbanee Kahai. It means ‘Guru says’ or ‘Bani says’. During the Guru’s ten appearances, ‘Guru says’, applies and after that it is also the Guru but now in the form of Gurbani, so ‘Bani says’.
gur banee kahai sayvak jan maanai partakh guroo nistaaray. ||5||
The rebirth is going to happen by hearing (suni-ai), not by singing. Singing concentrates the consciousness. We are in the process of rebirth and that is going to happen with hearing. That is why Maharaj Ji added four stanzas of suni-ai in Japji Sahib. Suni-ai means when thoughts have stopped and only hearing is taking place, the consciousness is completely absorbed in hearing. When we hear keertan or Khajana Darshan, we should focus completely and then hear. It does not benefit much to hear while driving or doing other things.
Dhaarnaa:

If, by becoming merciful, God makes me meet you, then my insides which have become totally dry, the garden of laughter will blossom there.

And my face will feel like a celebration of love!
