ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥
In any field, the secret to success is that the consciousness gets addicted to something. Politics, fame, money - they are all addictions. When the consciousness gets addicted to something, nothing needs to be done, the consciousness keeps doing it on its own. Maharaj Ji tells us that there are worldly addictions and then there is this other intoxication. Those who are intoxicated know how it feels; just remembering the Divine makes one intoxicated. Nothing needs to be done because the consciousness is addicted to feeling the Divine. Keeping the consciousness engaged in something worldly is easy but to bring the consciousness within, and keeping an eye on it until it becomes second nature to stay within and feel the Divine, is challenging.
The secret of all the so-called successes is that they become accustomed to some way, some power, some fame, and they don’t have to do anything. That dream - that I want to become a minister or something, that dream stays with them. The same way, this dream must stay with us that I am to be reborn, I am to experience something so beautiful that God made me to be. I am going to have my own darshan, I never knew who I was! On this path also, this dream should stay with us that I want to realize my true self; the divine Himself is sculpturing me , I must be something so beautiful!
Maharaj Ji says:
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗਏ ਮਸਕਤਿ ਘਾਲਿ ॥
jinee naam Dhi-aa-i-aa ga-ay maskat ghaal.
He says that to bring the consciousness on this path, to pull it out of the worldly thoughts, requires real efforts. Mushakkat means something difficult, hard work, real efforts are needed. Once the consciousness starts walking this path steadfastly, then nothing in the world can make you leave this path for worldly things like becoming the president or something; you would laugh at things like that!
Sikhi grew so quickly and spread far and wide. Guru Gobind Singh Ji left their physical body in 1708 and Khalsa Raj was established in the 1800’s that set an example for times to come. So many obstacles had to be overcome for that. Frequent attacks, formation of misls, planning, all those obstacles made them such kings that set an example for the rest of the world. We should not be afraid of hardships. They make us stronger like steel! There is a consciousness that gets excited upon seeing challenges, this is how the Khalsa was when they fought wars.
Even in the world, those who reached somewhere in life overcame challenges. In the late 1960’s, a group of four young boys from England with guitars started auditioning with various companies. Nobody showed any interest. England’s largest recording company, Decca, told them their voice was not good enough for singing. They took their talents somewhere else and became so popular in the western world. They were young but determined, and believed in themselves. They did not give up when someone told them they could not do it and kept going. We should put in the effort with urgency and reach that state where we remain intoxicated all the time and can’t bear not being in that state even for a moment. What a transformation that would be!
Please focus at the forehead or the heart.
We have been looking at the various merciful faces of the Guru. Yesterday we saw that the Guru is ishq.
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਭਰਮ ਗੜੁ ਤੋੜਿਆ ॥
so satgur Dhan Dhann jin bharam garh torhi-aa.
ਧਨ - Dhan- wealth.
ਧੰਨ - Dhann - that the Guru is blessed.
The Guru is the true wealth and has been blessed by the Divine Himself. He is the true wealth and everyone is welcome to access that wealth. He is the destroyer of illusion - the illusion that I am, these are my relatives, these are my properties, and this is my address. The other illusion is that whatever I see I also know what it is - this is a human, this is a cow, a tree, water, I know everything. This is false, such a big illusion!
Maharaj Ji is giving us this rebirth so we can see who I truly am. He says, you are not, this is not your name, nothing belongs to you, you have no relatives, no properties. All that was needed to survive in the world but that is not you, it is an illusion. It is an illusion that I am, I am separate, I have my own existence, it is up to me I can go wherever I like, it is clear that I am separate from others - this is all in sleep, it is an illusion! The one who wakes up sees that nothing is separate, it is all Oankaar, all His creation is threaded like a garland. Nothing in nature is outside of Oankaar, everything is connected.
It is an illusion. Maharaj Ji says that so powerful, blessed, true wealth is the Guru that He shatters the heavy fort of delusion. It is extraordinary. Some don’t let that fort break - it is because of their past karma.
We are something totally different.
satgur kai janmay gavan mitaa-i-aa.
ਅਨਹਤਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
anhat raatay ih man laa-i-aa.
mansaa aasaa sabad jalaa-ee.
gurmukh jot nirantar paa-ee.
Maharaj Ji says that you are Divine light. Can the light claim that this is my address, and these are my properties. Can you see how this is such a big illusion ? Maharaj Ji says you are the Divine light, something so special, something so beautiful, so precious. You are not this bundle of bones, flesh, and blood. You are something divinely!
ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਭਰਮ ਗੜੁ ਤੋੜਿਆ ॥
so satgur Dhan Dhan jin bharam garh torhi-aa.
Garh means fort. We are sitting in this fort of illusion and not letting it break. Whatever we do on the outside makes the fort stronger; we keep making it stronger.
He says you are Divine light. Can the Divine light claim that I own this building ? The light shines in the building but can it claim that building or claim that other buildings are my relatives. We would laugh at ourselves, what was the story and what I had been believing. How beautiful I was and how poor I remained.
Yesterday we saw that the Guru’s words, His sound, transports us from the outside world into this inner world, His love filled utterances, His compassion filled messages make us very humble, very receptive. We know that we are not the same person when we are away from the Guru or the sangat. And when we are in the sangat with the Guru, something changes. Away from Guru and sangat, we end up in futile conversations, restlessness, anger, greed, lust, pride, jealousy. When we are in sangat, something changes, something starts happening to our consciousness, something strange, something indescribable, something starts moving within. This is the grace of the Guru and sangat. We start becoming silent, peaceful, silence starts spreading within, silence starts blooming within. We feel like singing, feels like some songs start forming within, songs of love or related to love like feelings of separation. These miracles happen in the sangat. Hearing the Guru, hearing His utterances, we start transforming into something new. It’s a separate matter if we don’t keep up and practice and we’re not able to preserve that state, but when we were in the sangat, we started becoming a new person, there was transformation. We can start to feel a shift in our consciousness, we are peaceful, there is no jealousy towards anyone.
Those blessed souls who know how to have darshan of the Guru, they can start feeling their thoughts changing, thoughts start becoming more pure, more loving, and even with open eyes they can feel something moving upwards, some energy moving upwards, away from the blind well. These are miracles! This is how Guru demolishes our delusions. Maharaj Ji says:
maa-i-aa mohi ih jag sutaa.
naam visaar ant vigutaa.
Maiaa- the things we keep amassing.
Moh - emotional attachment to people.
He says that emotional attachment to others and greed makes us sleep and becomes the cause of making our lives fruitless and empty.
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੁਤਾ ਸੋ ਜਾਗਾਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥
jis tay sutaa so jaagaa-ay gurmat sojhee paavni-aa.
He says that maiaa and moh were also created by Him; it was a test, you failed and now He is going to tell you how to pass. The one who made me sleep is now helping me wake up. The Guru shatters the delusions and one starts to see the truth about this creation.
We must not be content with this egoistic I. I keep saying this everyday because it must become engraved in our consciousness.
Dhaarnaa:
ਹਾਏ ਨੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ, ਐਸ ਮੈਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲੇ
haa-ay nee mayraa jee nahee lagdaa, ais maiN day naalay
ਏਨੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਾਡਾ ਸੁਪਣਾ ਰੋਵੇ, ਵਰਚੇ ਨਾ ਵਰਚਾਇਆ
aynee raaheeN saadaa supnaa rovay, varchay naa varchaa-i-aa
My dream of realizing my true self keeps crying on this path; the path which does not take me to the self realization. I try to appease my dream in many ways but it keeps crying.
ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਕੁੱਛੜੋਂ ਲੱਥੇ ਨੀ ਉਹ, ਰਹੇ ਨਾ ਗਲ ਨਾਲ ਲਾਇਆ
murh murh kuchharhoN lathay nee oh, rahay naa gal naal laa-i-aa
I am carrying that dream with me. Again and again that dream leaves me and says I don’t want to go with you, you are going somewhere else.
ਆਖੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਰਾਹੇ ਜਾਣਾ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਚਲੇਂਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ
aakhay maiN us raahay jaanaa, jithay ishq chalayNdaa naalay
My dream says I want to walk only that path where the great love, the ishq, walks with me, and that is the inner path.
ਹਾਏ ਨੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ, ਐਸ ਮੈਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲੇ
haa-ay nee mayraa jee nahee lagdaa, ais maiN day naalay
Please keep feeling Him. New sangat please keep your consciousness at the forehead in between the eyebrows and slowly you will start feeling God’s power.
man ray ki-o chhooteh bin pi-aar.
Oh, my mind, how can you get out of this cycle of suffering, of birth and death, unless you yourself become ishq.
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਾਧੋ ਕਾਲ ਕੋ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਾਲੁ ਅਫਾਰੁ ॥
sabh jag baaDho kaal ko bin gur kaal afaar.
Maharaj Ji says, without the Guru one’s consciousness dwells in the world, experiences sorrows and miseries, and one day life comes to an end, and one has to come back. In the world, time controls everything. Here, time cannot do anything.
ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
sach ratay say ubray dubiDhaa chhod vikaar.
He says, don’t keep your feet in two boats, you won’t be able to reach anywhere. Come into this boat.
ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ॥
ha-o tin kai balihaarnai dar sachai sachiaar
How beautiful! Maharaj Ji says I am a sacrifice unto those who remain seated at the door of the Divine and slowly one day they become the truth. Feeling Him is to remain seated at his door.
There is a letter from a sangat in Nabha, Patiala who joined us last year. The writer says:
Baba Ji, I instantly experience the various ways during Khajana Darshan, the various ways that Maharaj Ji tells us to bring the consciousness back home, I experience that instantly. My consciousness wants to see its true self and meet the divine. I have no words to express my gratitude and amazement for this path. Now I have realized that the consciousness never dies, and leaves this body. In whichever state this consciousness leaves the body God sends it back in the same state and gives it another body. The relationships that bring sorrows are past karma. It is not God’s punishment but the karma that our consciousness has formed. Now we have Guru Granth Sahib and this consciousness has started making good choices but it is very clever, the moment it is away from Gurbani, sangat, the mind starts to show its true colors again. May Maharaj Ji rid this consciousness of cleverness. May its diet become water like a fish. I want to become that fish. May Gold help us be victorious and accomplish the true purpose of this life and may we keep drinking Anhad Shabad.
Those of us who with their great efforts, determination, and Maharaj Ji’s grace are realizing their true selves and becoming ishq, these lines are from them.
Dhaarnaa:
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਿੰਝ ਸਮਝਾਵਾਂ ਮਹਿਰਮਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਜੰਨਤ ਮੇਰੀ
tainoo kinjh samjhaavaaN meharmaaN tooN jannat mayree
ਜਾਂ ਬੈਠੇਂ ਤੂੰ ਵੇ ਆਣਕੇ ਦਿਲ ਧੜਕੇ ਜੋਰੀਂ
jaaN baithayN tooN vay aankay dil Dharhkay joreeN
ਕੁੱਝ ਹੋਰ ਮੰਗ ਨਾ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ, ਤੂੰ ਦੌਲਤ ਮੇਰੀ
kujh hor mang naa rah ga-ee tooN doulat mayree
You are my true wealth. No desire is left to be fulfilled.
ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਂਭ ਸਾਂਭ ਮੈਂ ਰੱਖਦੀ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਤੋਂ ਚੋਰੀ
tainoo saambh saambh maiN rakhdee dunee-aa toN choree
I take care of you so much that I keep you hidden from the world.
Please keep hearing the Anhad Shabad, focusing on the ears, and hearing the saaN, saaN. Maharaj Ji says the saaN, saaN is the song of ishq.
Dhaarnaa:
ਤੇ ਗੱਲਾਂ, ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀਆਂ, ਅੱਜ ਚੱਲੀਆਂ ਵੇ
tay galaaN nij dee-aaN aj chali-aaN vay
ਐਸਾ ਨਾਦ ਪਿਆਇਆ ਫਿਰ ਓਸ ਸਾਨੂੰ
aisaa naad pi-aa-i-aa fir os sanoo
He made me drink such beautiful music!
Those who come to know the secret realize that our consciousness drinks that Celestial Music. God transfers that music directly into our consciousness.
ਪਤਾ ਲੱਗਾ ਜਾਂ ਸੋਚਾਂ ਘੁਮੰਨੀਆਂ ਵੇ
pataa lagaa jaaN sochaaN ghumani-aaN vay
My thoughts have been transformed. I look at things differently now.
ਕੋਈ ਆਖਦੀ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਪਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਏ
ko-ee aakhdee ishk pi-ouNdaa ay
ਤੇ ਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਠਗਮੂਰੀ ਠਗੰਨੀਆਂ ਵੇ
tay jaaN day thagmooree thaganee-aaN vay
Back in the day robbers would loot the travelers by making them smell this herb which would make them unconscious. That herb is called thagmooree.
Some say that he makes you drink ishq. Others say that He makes you unconscious by making you smell something, and you feel intoxicated, you get robbed - you start seeing that all those properties and things that I claimed to be mine, is nothing! You get robbed!
ਤੇ ਗੱਲਾਂ, ਨਿੱਜ ਦੀਆਂ, ਅੱਜ ਚੱਲੀਆਂ ਵੇ
tay galaaN nij dee-aaN aj chali-aaN vay
