2495 - Khajana Darshan August 25, 2022 – Surrey (English Translation)

Transliteration Key for Gurbani

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥  ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

Please focus at the hirdaa (heart) or at the forehead, between the eyebrows.  Initially, it is easier to focus at the forehead between the eyebrows.

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ

tis gur ka-o ha-o vaari-aa jin har kee har kathaa sunaa-ee.

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ

tis gur ka-o sad balihaarnai jin har sayvaa banat banaa-ee.

ਸੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਮੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਹੈ ਜਿਥੈ ਕਿਥੈ ਮੈਨੋ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਈ

so satgur pi-aaraa mayrai naal hai jithai kithai maino la-ay chhadaa-ee.

ਤਿਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ

tis gur ka-o saabaas hai jin har sojhee paa-ee.

Glory, glory belongs to the Guru who has imparted to me the understanding of the Divine, understanding of the truth - that it is right within you, it is right within your mind! The Guru gave me the understanding that the Divine is realized in the consciousness, within us, not outside. We focus our consciousness, He reveals Himself, the consciousness feels Him first, touches Him and when He is pleased, then He touches us. Please feel Him.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਆ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਪੁਰਾਈ

naanak gur vitahu vaari-aa jin har naam dee-aa mayray man kee aas puraa-ee.

He gave me the Shabad, the sacred word. When we take Amrit, Maharaj Ji gives us the sacred word, Waheguru. There are many names of God but He says you recite this name, Waheguru.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਪੁਰਾਈ

mayray man kee aas puraa-ee.

The Guru made me realize what I truly want. You have been wandering outside for many lifetimes, you keep amassing things, but none of those things have been helpful to you in any life. What you truly want is to go beyond the cycle of birth and death, be filled with joy, peace, happiness, and want others to have even more peace, joy, and bliss than you. Isn't that what you truly want ? Maharaj Ji says those things are within you, and you kept wandering outside.

ਰਾਗ ਰਤਨ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਪਰੀਆ ਸਬਦ ਗਾਵਣ ਆਈਆ

raag ratan parvaar paree-aa sabad gaavan aa-ee-aa.

God has put sounds in nature and all those sounds are within us. The human sound comes naturally to us but we can make any sound  - that of a bird, an animal, cricket, because God has put all those sounds in this body, and it is amazing that all those sounds are vibrating within us at different speeds or frequencies. There are countless things in His creation, and each of those things has a unique sound, for example the sound of a parrot, sparrows chirping, an elephant trumpeting, are all unique sounds that belong to each of those families in nature. All of these sounds, vibrating at different frequencies, are within us! That is why for many years I have been insistent that this is not the correct way of singing, because that was harmful. Please understand this. When we speak or sing by coming into sync with the sounds, the vibrations that are present in nature, it leads to ishq with God because that sound came from ishq; every sound that is present in everything in nature is the sound of God's ishq.God is vibrating and the sounds are produced from those vibrations. The ancient sages divided these vibrations in nature into eight sounds. If the harmonium is played correctly, then the sound produced by God can be heard. Please hear very carefully and focus more on the sound of the harmonium, and not on the singer. If it is a message of joy then the sound from the harmonium is carrying that joy, if it is about the pain of separation then you can hear the pain in that sound.

ਧਨਿ ਧੰਨਿ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਭਾਗ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਪਿਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ

Dhan Dhan hamaaray bhaag ghar aa-i-aa pir mayraa.

Blessed, blessed is my destiny. My Beloved has arrived in my home.

Harmonium plays at 15:30

Please see the laughter in the sound of the harmonium, the joy, the happiness. Please feel the sound of the harmonium, that it is carefree, it has no concern with what is happening on the outside, it doesn’t have any knowledge about the outside and neither does it want to know anything. Please feel the voice of the harmonium just for another 30 seconds, that when it is singing, “Blessed is my destiny. My Beloved has revealed Himself within me” , it is totally consumed in singing that. God is present in this sound, please see the sound of God. Please feel the tender gentle vibrations within the body. Because that sound stimulated the vibration that already existed within us, it made it stand out.

So, why is the Guru’s job so difficult? So difficult that a rare one has faith in the Guru. It takes a lot of meditation to develop faith. Maharaj Ji says:

ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ

raam gur saran parabhoo rakhvaaray.

He says come in the sanctuary of the Guru and He will protect you in every way. The rare one will believe this. It is easy to talk.

ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਕਹਨੁ ਕਹਾਵਨੁ

suhaylaa kahan kahaavan

ਤੇਰਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਭਾਵਨੁ

tayraa bikham bhaavan

Maharaj Ji says it is easy to talk, you can say anything you want, it’s not going to cost you anything. But to have ishq with the Guru, with God, is most difficult.

Please let your inside sing.

ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ

raam gur saran parabhoo rakhvaaray

Bow to the Guru, come to His refuge, and He will protect you.

So why is it so difficult ? This lifetime just started, but Maharaj Ji says:

ਕਈ ਜਨਮ ਭਏ ਕੀਟ ਪਤੰਗਾ

ka-ee janam bha-ay keet patangaa

Millions of times, we came as insects and bugs, and then for millions of times we had a human body but every time we lived from the mind, every time we lived a worldly life, we don’t know anything else, and now all of a sudden someone who looks like a person comes to us and talks like this - would the mind believe it ? We have to cut all ties with the mind!

Dhaarnaa:

ਹਾਏ ਨੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ, ਐਸ ਮੈਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲੇ

haa-ay nee mayraa jee nahi lagdaa ais maiN day naalay

ਸੱਜਣ ਬਣ ਜੋ ਦਰਦ ਦੇ ਗਏ ਸੁਖੀ ਵਸਣ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ

sajan ban jo darad day ga-ay, sukhee vasan nee maa-ay

Those who became very intimate, and then left me with pains, may they be peaceful as well. We are talking about the mind.

ਲੱਪ ਕੁ ਹੰਝੂ, ਮੁੱਠ ਕੁ ਪੀੜਾਂ, ਜੱਗ ਨੇ ਸੀ ਵੰਡਾਏ

lap ku hanjhoo muth ku peerhaaN, jag nay see vandaa-ay

Out of those pains, the world shared with me a fistful of pain and a cup full of tears.

ਬਾਕੀ ਤੇ ਅਸਾਂ ਦਿਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਖੀਂ ਮੀਚ ਪੀਆਏ

baakee tay asaaN dil aapnay, akheeN meech piaa-ay

Those pains were bitter, drinking them tasted very bitter. If one has to drink something bitter, they usually do it with their eyes closed. I made my heart drink those pains and my heart closed his eyes and drank that because they were so bitter.  

ਓਹ ਕੀ ਜਾਨਣ ਗ਼ਮ ਕੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ, ਜੋ ਗ਼ਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਚਣ ਵਾਲੇ

oh kee jaanan gam kee hunday, jo gamaaN noo vaychan vaalay

Those who sell sorrows and miseries, how would they know what the real pain, the real sorrow is!

ਹਾਏ ਨੀ ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਗਦਾ, ਐਸ ਮੈਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲੇ

haa-ay nee mayraa jee nahi lagdaa ais maiN day naalay

Maharaj Ji says:

ਰਾਮ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਰਖਵਾਰੇ

raam gur saran parabhoo rakhvaaray

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਨੀਕੇ ਮਨਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਕਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰੇ

parabh kay sayvak bahut at neekay man sarDhaa kar har Dhaaray.

Maharaj ji says those who love the Divine, those who are in ishq with the Divine, they are neekay - utterly small. Their ego is almost non-existent. They are so humble. 

When we hear this we think that this cannot be me , and the Guru’s utterances fly over our head. How can I be like that ? This is the most difficult task for the Guru.

The task of the Guru is the most difficult in the Universe. There is no other task in the world which is as challenging as the Guru’s task, and that task is to convince people that you are not what you have been believing; there is another version of you which is your true self. This is not you! 

The Guru comes and tells us you are not this , you are something else. But the world has been living in the same cycle for millions of lifetimes, living the worldly life, and they don’t believe this.

I am not this ? Then, who am I?

You are Divine light.

Light? Is light even a thing?

Yes, light!

Me?

Yes!

But I am this very beautiful body, I am happy in the world. Everyone has a little world of their own even though they may think it’s quite big but it’s pretty tiny compared to the Universe. If something does not fit into the constructs of one’s world, they cannot hear it. Please understand this. Anything which does not fit into one’s own tiny little world or anything which has no concern with one’s tiny little world, one cannot hear it. We only hear it if it is of interest to us.

Maharaj Ji says that because the consciousness remains in darkness for so many lifetimes, the person becomes deaf and blind. Because we were deaf, in four stanzas of Japji Sahib, He announced again and again suniai, suniai, suniai, suniai - hear, hear, hear what I am saying,

The world has become deaf, the world has become totally blind to anything which does not belong to this world. If you tell them, there is a sound beyond all of these sounds, they won't believe you. If you tell them there is Divine light, they won't hear it. They have become totally deaf and blind to anything which is outside the realm of their worldly lives.

We were blessed to have been born in this house, from a young age we heard words from Gurbani but that did not happen with the rest of the world, they never heard about the Divine light, they became deaf, they never heard about the true self. These words do not exist in their vocabulary. The world doesn’t have these words in their vocabulary, the divine light, jot, or your light, jotee, so they are totally blind and deaf to this and that’s why the Guru’s task is so difficult to convince people that this is not you. 

It took us such a long time! You live in these so called advanced countries, you are educated, intelligent, but still you could not hear the truth. The mind does not hear this, it keeps looking around, keeps thinking, doesn't know anything, just keeps thinking aimlessly. He says rare are the ones who hear Him, the Guru's work is so difficult. He keeps announcing again and again.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਕੈ ਗਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥੩॥੩॥

naanak kahat pukaar kai gahu parabh sarnaa-ee. ||3||3||

He says that I am announcing from the rooftop, come to His refuge, hold His hand. If it was being heard, why would He have to announce from the rooftop ? Let alone hear,  this world said stay away from Nanak, He is leading everyone astray. When He visited Bhai Lalo, people shut their doors lest they would have to see him. Who would hear Him ?

Maharaj Ji says:

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੀਰਥ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ

naam ratay tirath say nirmal dukh ha-umai mail chukaa-i-aa.

Maharaj ji says those who are imbued with His ishq they are the holy places, and they are utterly humble; meeting them is like visiting a place of pilgrimage. How can the world understand these utterances ?

The Guru makes them into places of pilgrimage. The mind cannot fathom this.

Dhaarnaa:

ਮਾਏ ਨੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁੱਖ ਨੀ ਮੰਗੇਂਦੀਏ

maa-ay nee mayree sukh nee maNgayNdee-ay

O’ my mother, you always beg God for my welfare, I want to tell you something.

ਮਾਏ ਨੀ ਮੈਂ ਤੀਰਥ ਬਣਨਾ,

maa-ay nee maiN teerath bananaa 

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੀਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨੀ,  ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁੱਖ ਨੀ ਮੰਗੇਂਦੀਏ

nirmal jeedaa naam nee, mayree sukh nee maNgayNdee-ay

nirmal  - pure, with utter humility. 

Oh my mother, I’m becoming a holy place and the name of the holy place is humility.

ਸੱਜਣਾ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਰਲੀ ਕੀਤਾ

sajnaa nay mainoo virlee keetaa

He made me into a rare one.

ਵਿੱਚ ਐਡੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਜਹਾਨ ਨੀ, ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁੱਖ ਨੀ ਮੰਗੇਂਦੀਏ

vich aiday vaday jahaan nee, mayree sukh nee maNgayNdee-ay

He has made me the rare one, a rare one in such a huge world with billions of population. He has picked me and He says you are a rare one.

There is a letter from a sangat, who visited Fresno.

Baba Ji, I was fortunate to experience sangat very closely in Fresno. Since Barsi, the lack of sangat had made my inside very dry but the sight of sangat in Fresno made everything blossom again. They gave us a royal welcome, their eyes were like oceans of love which irrigated my arid heart. The sweets that were distributed at the end, I took them as precious jewels and brought them home. They didn't just give us sweets, they gave us their hearts. Blessed are those who received the dust of the feet of this sangat.

 Dear child, thank you for your letter. You are blessed to have the eyes that can see the beauty.

 Dhaarnaa:

ਵੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ, ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਜਿਊਣਾ, ਗੁਨਾਹ ਲੱਗਿਆ

vay mainoo, tayray baajhoN ji-oona, gunaah lagi-aa

Last time we read:

ਹਾਸੇ ਆਉਣੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇ, ਹੰਝੂ ਵੀ ਵੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇ

haasay aa-ounay khushee-aaN day hanjhoo vee vay khushee-aaN day

ਦੋਵਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਆਉਣਾ, ਜੌੜੇ ਭਾਈ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਵੇ

dovaaN nay ikathay aa-ounaa, jaurhay bhaa-ee ban kay vay

When we would meet I would have laughter on my lips and tears in my eyes. Laughter and tears both are going to appear as twin brothers.

ਤੇਰੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਹੰਝੂ ਦੋਵੇਂ, ਇੱਕੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਲੱਗਣੇ ਵੇ

tayray mayray hanjhoo dovayN, iko jihay lagnay vay

When we meet, both of us are going to laugh in joy and cry in joy. 

ਬਿਰਹੋਂ ਦੇ ਜਾਏ ਓਹੋ, ਸੁੱਚੇ ਮੋਤੀ ਲੱਗਣੇ ਵੇ

birhoN day jaa-ay oho, suchay motee lagnay vay

Both your and my tears are born from the pain of separation, and they would be so precious; they will look like precious pearls.

ਚੁੱਪ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ, ਪੁੱਛਣਗੇ ਪਾ ਪਾਣੀ

chup dee avaaz vich puchhangay paa paanee

In silence, your tears and my tears would ask each other, why did you take so long ? I was calling you, my love was calling you.

ਮੁਹੱਬਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੱਦ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਉਂ ਚਿਰ ਲੱਗਿਆ

muhabataaN dee sad noo kioN chir lagi-aa

My ishq was calling you. How come it took you so long to come?

ਵੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ, ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝੋਂ ਜਿਊਣਾ, ਗੁਨਾਹ ਲੱਗਿਆ

vay mainoo, tayray baajhoN ji-oona, gunaah lagi-aa
