ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥
ਦੱਸਿਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੀ, ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਇਹ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ
dasio mayray laal jee, kavan su ih jagHaa
ਇਹ ਕੀਹਦਾ ਮਹਲ ਰੰਗੀਲੜਾ, ਬੈਠੇ ਰੰਗ ਵੀ ਸੀਸ ਨਿਵਾ
ih keeHdaa mahal rangeelarhaa, baithay raNg vee sees nivaa
Oh, my precious friends, could you please acquaint me with this place. What is this place ? This palace where such beautiful colors are sitting; I feel these colors are not here to decorate this divine palace, they are here to beg for colors from the owner of this palace.
Focus either at the hirdaa (the heart area) or at the mastak (forehead), please.
ਇਹ ਸਣੇ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਦੇ ਕੌਣ ਨੀ, ਜੋ ਮਹਿਕਾਂ ਵੰਡ ਰਿਹਾ
ih sanay takhat day kaun nee, jo mahikaaN vand rihaa
Who is the one sitting on the throne, and wherever He goes the throne goes with Him.
ਇਹ ਕੇਹਾ ਸੁ ਸੁਰੰਗੜਾ, ਜਿੰਨੂ ਰੰਗ ਵੀ ਪੂਜਣ ਆ
ih kayhaa su surangarhaa, jinoo raNg vee poojan aa
raNg means love. So many types of love - a sister’s love, brother’s love, mother’s love.
Who is the one on the throne that His love is so pure, and so profound, that all other types of love worship this love - ishq.
ਇਹਦੀ ਕੀਮ ਪਾਵੇ ਦੱਸ ਕੋਣ ਨੀ, ਰਿਹਾ ਰੁਮਾਲ ਵੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਿਹਾ
ihdee keem paavay das kaun nee, rihaa rumaal vee sahib kihaa
In olden days, when there was no paper money, coins of gold or silver were kept in a piece of cloth, and that piece of cloth was called rumaal. Even that piece of cloth was also precious because it had to safekeep the precious commodity in it.
Who on this earth can put a value on his attire, that cloth in which Sahib Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is kept because even the name of that piece of cloth is known as sahib (lord) - Rumala Sahib.
ਦੱਸਿਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਾਲ ਜੀ, ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਇਹ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ
dasio mayray laal jee, kavan su ih jagHaa
Maharaj Ji says:
bhaa-ee ray gurmukh boojhai ko-ay.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਣੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਖੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bin boojhay karam kamaavnay janam padaarath kho-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Gurmukh - the one who is reborn with His grace, within this lifetime.
Maharaj ji says only after one’s rebirth during this lifetime, one comes to know what is life, the secrets of life. And without knowing those secrets, people are just wasting their so beautiful and precious opportunity called human life.
Yesterday, I sat with my beautiful sons and daughters. Almost all of them had their questions written on pieces of paper, and the most often asked question was, what is the solution to stress? What to do about stress?
Today one of the sangat who came to give me the honor to sit with them, one of them was about a 6-year old daughter of mine. She said, I am very afraid I might fail the class; she is only about 5-6 years old, and she is already full of fear. Life hasn’t even begun yet, and the fear has already crept. We are so lucky that Maharaj Ji reveals to us these deeply held secrets of life. He opens treasures in front of us that we would have never realized otherwise. And in the coming days, starting from today, we are going to understand what Maharaj ji tells us.
We remain stressed all the time, fearful, worried, let us please all relax, open ourselves to the Divine and understand this riddle of human life.
Sing out of your hearts please. And while singing, let’s feel our insides vibrating.
Dhaarnaa:
ਆ ਬੈਠ ਨੀ ਸਖੀਏ ਕੋਲ ਮੇਰੇ
aa baith nee sakhee-ay kol mayray
ਤੇ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਰੀਏ ਦੋ ਘੜੀਆਂ
tay gal dilaaN dee karee-ay do gharhee-aaN
ਚਿਰਾਂ ਬਾਦ ਅੱਜ ਹੋਏ ਹਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਕੱਠੇ
chiraaN baad aj ho-ay haaN fir kathay
With His grace, we have gotten together after 3 long years. Oh my sister-friends, come and sit beside me and let us talk about our insides.
ਤੇ ਗੁਫ਼ਤਗੂ ਖੁੱਲੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਕਰੀਏ ਦੋ ਘੜੀਆਂ
tay guftagoo khulee jihee karee-ay do gharhee-aaN
Let us open our hearts to each other.
We come into this world crying. And spend our lives yelling at each other, with no love, with no real compassion, confused, worried, scared. Life feels like a jungle, where one is fearful of others, always scared, and the whole life is spent like that. And a day comes, when one leaves this world, with a heart filled with sadness, some regrets, complaints, and the life ends.
We don’t understand why I am always worried, why this is happening to me.
Maharaj Ji says:
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਏ ਕਿਛੁ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਲਿਤਾ ॥
ha-umai mayraa kar mu-ay kichh saath na litaa
Maharaj ji says that during one’s life, one remains in the illusion that I exist, and this is mine, I did that. This is how life gets spent, and one day the time of departure comes, and one leaves empty handed.
ਸਿਰ ਉਪਰਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਸੁਝਈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਰਮਿਤਾ ॥
sir upar jamkaal na sujh-ee doojai bharmitaa
Maharaj Ji says that one becomes so deeply entangled in the web of attachment, greed, lust, anger, that one forgets that everyday the allotted time to me is diminishing, every moment my, the given time is diminishing.
ਜੇਹਾ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਓਨੁ ਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਿਤਾ ॥
jayhaa Dhur likh paa-i-on say karam kamitaa
Maharaj Ji says that according to the state of your consciousness wherever life ended last time, that governs your actions in this lifetime. We must understand why we remain worried, why each and every one of us have thoughts and those thoughts keep repeating themselves.
Whatever desires we possessed in our consciousness when our life ended last time, God put those desires within us again. Accordingly, we experience thoughts to fulfill those desires; the same thoughts start occurring again. Please understand how deep this is, what would happen if we do not change this time ?
Maharaj Ji says that if you do not win the game of life this time, you are never going to win. This should make our insides shiver!
Where am I lost, what kind of worries am I harboring, the story is completely different! I have to get out of this street of worries, I have been in this street for so many lifetimes. It is not about how the fears and worries can be eliminated, rather I have to leave this street because there are only worries in this street.
ਜੇਹਾ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਪਾਇਓਨੁ ਸੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਿਤਾ ॥
jayhaa Dhur likh paa-i-on say karam kamitaa
Before doing anything we experience thoughts. These thoughts bring us worries and anxiety. This chain of thoughts has been continuing for many lifetimes and needs to be stopped now. Deep inside we want to become free of any fears or worries.
Some want to accumulate money for security. Maharaj ji says:
ਮਾਇਆ ਹੋਈ ਨਾਗਨੀ ਜਗਤਿ ਰਹੀ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
maa-i-aa ho-ee naagnee jagat rahee laptaa-ay.
He says that to accumulate worldly wealth is to have a snake around us, and that snake remains wrapped around us and finally kills us.
The solutions that we are thinking of to eliminate worries are wrong. That path is wrong.
Firstly, we don’t know how to become fearless, relaxed, content, true, and then many times when Maharaj Ji tells us and we come to know these things, we do not do anything about it. We do, but we do so little that we remain in the same old street of fear and attachments. Our mind is miserable.
Our mind is a collection of thoughts , and where are these thoughts coming from ? From previous lifetimes. And there is only one way to stop these thoughts, to attach our consciousness with the Divine.
Maharaj ji says that if you do not become attached with God this time, your life is going to be a life in a burning furnace, a storm in a teapot. We are burning in the furnace with the fire of fear, worries, prejudices and so forth. Our mind has become like a mud puddle.
ਬਿਨੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਸਤਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਭਰੀਜੈ ਜੀਉ ॥
bin bhaagaa satsang na labhai bin sangat mail bhareejai jee-o
Maharaj ji says without having, or remaining in the holy congregation, one’s consciousness becomes a mud puddle, which becomes perturbed with petty disturbances. That mud puddle becomes perturbed with petty babble and perplexities of life. We become disturbed because we do not understand why this happened, or why that happened. Nature does not want us to understand those things, nature knows the reason. Life tells us to get out of this street of worries.
Minds are filled with fears and worries, and fancies, and minds have become barren and bankrupt. Our mind does not have anything that is valuable. That valuable thing that was going to become Gurbani, a garden of the flowers of truth, fragrance of the divine, in place of that we have barren land.
And nothing valuable is there in our consciousness. Our minds have become bankrupt because we entered into the wrong street of life, following our minds. Our minds have become haunted houses, divided in itself - let’s do this, no let’s do that, we should do this way, no that way, doubts, doubts, doubts! Such a pity is the state of our mind. Divinity is excluded and replaced with discord, division, and worries.
We are going to change. Maharaj Ji is asking us for our hand. He takes us out of the blind well, the seat of our mind, which is at the lowest point in our body below the pubic bone, that’s where our mind dwells. Maharaj ji takes us out of that barren, bankrupt, fearful, dark place and brings us out in the daylight of His love, His presence.
We could not meet for three years and have suffered a big loss. We have to make up for it.
Dhaarnaa:
ਵੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਬਾਝ ਜਿਊਣਾ ਗੁਨਾਹ ਲੱਗਿਆ
vay mainoo tayray baajhoN ji-oonaa gunaah lagi-aa
ਵੇ ਕਦੀ ਦਿੱਸਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਕੋਲ ਕਦੀ ਦੂਰ ਲੱਗਿਆ
vay kadee disi-aa tooN kol kadee door lagi-aa
Without the holy congregation, life to me seemed like a sinful life, the consciousness becoming a mud puddle.
ਮਨ ਚੰਦਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਬੜਾ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਡਰ ਲੱਗਿਆ
man chandaray toN barhaa mainoo dar lagi-aa
Without the congregation, my mind had taken over me. My life went into the hands of a cruel, uncaring stranger.
ਉੱਜੜ ਜਾਵੇ ਨਾ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਿਤੇ
ujarh jaavay naa dunee-aa mayree kitay
ਯਾਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਨੌੰ ਦਿਨੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਫੜ ਛੱਡਿਆ
yaad tayree noo dinay raatee farh chhadi-aa
I was so afraid that lest my life becomes wasted, I kept your memory tightly held to myself.
