2501 - Khajana Darshan October 6, 2022 – Malaysia (English Translation)

Transliteration Key for Gurbani

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

॥ ਜਪੁ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥  ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

ਦੇਵਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੈ ਹਥਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਪਾਇ

dayvan vaalay kai hath daat hai guroo du-aarai paa-ay

Let us please become fully focused at the navel point and use all of our consciousness in feeling what we feel there. If we look closely, some of us might feel the pressure there. Look closely, you would feel the presence of some power there.

As we sing His utterances, we would be going around the navel point.

In the first stanza of Japji Sahib, Maharaj Ji says:

ਸੋਚੈ ਸੋਚਿ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਸੋਚੀ ਲਖ ਵਾਰ

ਚੁਪੈ ਚੁਪ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਲਾਇ ਰਹਾ ਲਿਵ ਤਾਰ

ਭੁਖਿਆ ਭੁਖ ਉਤਰੀ ਜੇ ਬੰਨਾ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਭਾਰ

ਸਹਸ ਸਿਆਣਪਾ ਲਖ ਹੋਹਿ ਇਕ ਚਲੈ ਨਾਲਿ

ਕਿਵ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਹੋਈਐ ਕਿਵ ਕੂੜੈ ਤੁਟੈ ਪਾਲਿ

ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਚਲਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ

sochai soch na hova-ee jay sochee lakh vaar

chupai chup na hova-ee jay laa-ay rahaa liv taar

bhukhi-aa bhukh na utree jay bannaa puree-aa bhaar

sahas si-aanpaa lakh hohi ta ik na chalai naal

kiv sachi-aaraa ho-ee-ai kiv koorhai tutai paal

hukam rajaa-ee chalnaa naanak likhi-aa naal

Maharaj ji says you are a being who is very peaceful but right now you are unpeaceful and you cannot become peaceful yourself. You are very pure, but you cannot become pure yourself. Your true self does not need anything but if you will try to satisfy your hunger by collecting things on the outside you will not be satisfied. You cannot satisfy your hunger on your own. Even if the whole world’s diamonds and wealth are given to you, it will not satisfy your hunger. Your true self is peaceful, pure, and content. The question arises, how do I become my true self ? God dwells with you so stay with Him and then whatever you do by staying with Him, will be in His hukam because you are dwelling with Him.

In the first pauri (stanza) of Japji Sahib, Maharaj Ji explains everything. He says that you are not peaceful, you are impure and hungry; these are big maladies and you cannot cure them yourself or rely on anyone on the outside. It can only be cured with one medicine and that medicine is in God’s hands. Maharaj ji says that if you get one divinely gift, that is the Divine Himself, if He reveals Himself within, then that gift is the cure of all your problems. But that gift is in His hands.

Where is that gift received? At the door of the Guru’s Temple.

ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਏਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਹੈ ਗਿਆਨਿ ਰਤਨਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ

har mandar ayhu sareer hai gi-aan ratan pargat ho-ay

There are seven doors to this Temple of God, and Maharaj Ji says that that divine gift is received at the door of the Guru’s Temple. Right now we are sitting at the navel point that is one of the doors.

Please feel His power revolving at that point while we sing this.

ਦੇਵਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੈ ਹਥਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਪਾਇ

dayvan vaalay kai hath daat hai guroo du-aarai paa-ay

When we say guroo du-aarai paa-ay, rotate along with His presence around the navel point, and keep doing it as long as you can as you say paa-ay.

It is in the hands of God to let us come at that door, to let us stay at that door, to let us feel His presence at that door. Don’t think that you can do this yourself. Become humble. He cherishes those who are humble. The one who thinks that I can do it by myself, Maharaj Ji says I don’t have to worry about you since you can take care of yourself.

Our consciousness should be filled with utter humility and gratitude. Maharaj Ji, you are so benevolent, you saw I was at the navel point and you came right away to that door; you came down from your palace in the skies to the navel point to make your presence felt.

Please stay with Him.

Dhaarnaa:

ਮੈਂ ਜੋਗੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਤੇ ਜੋਗੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ

maiN jogee day naal naal tay iogee mayray naal naal

I am with the jogee and the jogee is with me. Jogee means the one who unites. His presence within us is what unites us with the divine.  

Who would have told us how this human body has been designed, how it has been fashioned, and for what purpose. Maharaj Ji designed the human body for our consciousness to unfold, grow and blossom from within. This can only happen within by staying with the Divine. It is from this point of view that God created this human body. When the consciousness comes outside, that is opposite of its true nature. When we remain outside, we close its natural path, which is to ascend. We close that door and now it remains wandering outside, horizontally. Its nature is to ascend upwards but now it goes everywhere and becomes rebellious; we have to suffer now because of the excess we did with it.

Man is so engrossed in his day to day life that one forgets the most important truth about life. Not once not twice, Maharaj Ji says it has been happening for millions of lifetimes and one forgets every time! When someone departs, the obituary says he left behind a million dollar estate. This is not what the obituary should say. What legacy did that person leave behind ? What did he or she do, did they win the game of life ?

We have to sit down and ask ourselves, how come this happened to me!

Dhaarnaa:

ਉੱਠੋ ਵੇ ਮੇਰਿਓਂ ਸੁੱਤਿਓਂ ਰੱਬੋਂ, ਤੇ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਵਤਨ ਸੰਭਾਲੋ

utho vay mayri-oN suti-oN raboN, tay uth kay vatan sambhaalo

Oh, my consciousness, the container of the divine, wake up! Wake up and take possession of yourself.

We are at one of the doors to His palace; please stay at the navel point. Maharaj Ji says that when you are inside, even if you are at the door, you are going to be in possession of yourself. It was out of rebellion that the consciousness attached itself with desires, greed, lust, anger, attachment when it was outside.

Maharaj Ji says:

ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੂੰ ਹੈ

so parabh door naahee parabh tooN hai

Our true self is always connected to the Divine. We are like waves on the ocean; the waves are made up of the same thing as the ocean.

ਉੱਠੋ ਵੇ ਮੇਰਿਓਂ ਸੁੱਤਿਓਂ ਰੱਬੋਂ ਵੇ, ਕੀਤੀ ਜੇ ਦੇਰੀ ਕਿਉਂ

utho vay mayri-oN suti-oN raboN vay, keetee jay dayree ki-oN

Why have you waited so long!

ਕਿੱਥੇ ਹੈ ਤਾਂਘ ਵੇ ਹੀਰਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ, ਸੌਣ ਨਾ ਦੇਵੇ ਜੋ

kithay hai taaNgh vay heeraaN vaalee, saun naa dayvay jo

Where is that burning desire in you to realize the truth, to realize who you are; the burning desire that does not let one sleep.

ਕਿੱਥੇ ਨੇ ਮਜਨੂ ਨੈਣ ਤਿਖਾਲੀ, ਨੈਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਯਾਰੀ ਕਿਉਂ

kithay nay majnoo nain tikhaalee, nainaaN naal yaaree ki-oN

Where is the eye in which the beloved dwells ? Where is that eye? How come you are okay, with these empty eyes? How come!

ਚਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਉਂ ਹੁਸਨ ਨਾ ਅੜਿਆ, ਰੁੱਕ ਰੁੱਕ ਚਲਣਾ ਕਿਉਂ

chaal vich ki-oN husan naa arhi-aa, ruk ruk chalanaa ki-oN 

Why is your gait towards yourself so unsteady, so lifeless! Sometimes you sit in meditation, sometimes you don’t. Sometimes you do Nitnem (daily prayers), sometimes you don’t.

ਐਡਾ ਉੱਚਾ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਸੀ ਉਹਦਾ, ਅਹਿਸਾਨ ਫ਼ਰਾਮੋਸ਼ੀ ਕਿਉਂ

aidaa uchaa upkaar see oHdaa, ehsaan faraamoshee ki-oN

He did an unbelievable favor to us by blessing us with human consciousness and the human body which is so beautifully designed for the consciousness to ascend upwards, to grow, to blossom and attain its potential. How come that He did such a favor to you, blessed you with an unbelievable gift, and you felt no gratitude towards Him ?

ਐਡਾ ਉੱਚਾ ਉਪਕਾਰ ਸੀ ਉਹਦਾ, ਅਹਿਸਾਨ ਫ਼ਰਾਮੋਸ਼ੀ ਕਿਉਂ

aidaa uchaa upkaar see oHdaa, ehsaan faraamoshee ki-oN

ਲਾਲ ਜੀ, ਅਹਿਸਾਨ ਫ਼ਰਾਮੋਸ਼ੀ ਕਿਉਂ

laal jee, ehsaan faraamoshee ki-oN

ਲਾਲ ਜੀ, ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ਦੇਰੀ ਕਿਉਂ

laal jee, laa-ee jay dayree ki-oN

Dhaarnaa (end)

We have been looking at the merciful faces of the Guru. Maharaj Ji says:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਜਨਮੇ ਗਵਨੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ

satgur kai janmay gavan mitaa-i-aa.

ਅਨਹਤਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

anhat raatay ih man laa-i-aa.

By hearing the Anhad Shabad (Celestial Music) continuously, I became intoxicated. The Celestial Music that Maharaj Ji is playing, is the song of ishq. Our consciousness drinks the Anhad Shabad, and by drinking it again and again, it becomes full and satisfied. Maharaj Ji says that by drinking the Anhad Shabad, one realizes that it fills me up and I am not hungry for anything anymore.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਉਲਟੀ ਭਈ ਨਵ ਨਿਧਿ ਖਰਚਿਉ ਖਾਉ

satgur mili-ai ultee bha-ee nav niDh kharchi-o khaa-o

ਅਨਹਦ ਧੁਨੀ ਸਦ ਵਜਦੇ ਉਨਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ

anhad Dhunee sad vajday unman har liv laa-ay

Guru brings us inside. Guru makes us hear the Anhad Shabad. Anhad Shabad is the intoxicant; He makes us drink that and become intoxicated. Guru helps us go into deep meditation; He says keep drinking the Anhad Shabad for a long time, and that makes us intoxicated.

ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ

so jaagai jis satgur milai

ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਓਹੁ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਕਰੈ

panch doot oh vasgat karai

Guru makes us understand the story of life. Guru connects us with the Divine within and awakens us.

The five robbers come within our control; earlier we were controlled by them.

ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜੋ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ

so jaagai jo ayko jaanai

ਪਰਕਿਰਤਿ ਛੋਡੈ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ

parkirat chhodai tat pachhaanai

Maharaj Ji says when any thought comes to you, and you stop remaining with me, your consciousness goes outside and it comes in the hands of one of the five robbers - lust, anger, greed, attachment, ego, and you become the slave of those Five. We were meant to work for ourselves, become our true selves, but when the consciousness goes outside, it works for the five robbers.

ਦੋ ਸ਼ਰਾਬਾਂ ਤੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਜਾਲ, ਨੀ ਦੱਸ ਮਾਏ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਪੀਣੀ

do sharaabaaN tay dovayN hee jaal, nee das maa-ay kihrhee peenee

ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਜਾਂ ਹੋਣਾ ਸਰਕਾਰ, ਨੀ ਦੱਸ ਮਾਏ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਪੀਣੀ

gulaam rahinaa jaaN honaa sarkaar, nee das maa-ay kayrhee peenee

Do you want to remain a slave of the Five Robbers or do you want to become master of the Five ?

ਇੱਕ ਪਤਝੜ ਤੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਹਈ ਬਹਾਰ, ਨੀ ਦੱਸ ਮਾਏ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਪੀਣੀ

ik patjharh tay doojee ha-ee bahaar, nee das maa-ay kayrhee peenee

One uproots you from your beloved, and the other makes you rooted into your beloved.

ਦੇਵਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੈ ਹਥਿ ਦਾਤਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਪਾਇ

dayvan vaalay kai hath daat hai guroo du-aarai paa-ay

ਜਤੁ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਇ

jat sat sanjam naam hai vin naavai nirmal na ho-ay

Maharaj Ji says that keep climbing the steps that I have made inside you. In Japji Sahib, Maharaj Ji explains right in the beginning that this is an inside journey and we are to climb the steps within, and there are seven steps. He says that to remain connected with the Divine all the time is the ultimate sanjam (self discipline).

vin naavai nirmal na ho-ay

Maharaj ji says without the inner journey, there is no way of realizing our true self. Ascending within is the only way. Keep climbing the steps with Naam otherwise you will never become your true self, you will never be at peace, you won’t be content.

Dhaarnaa:

ਤੂੰ ਖਿਆਲ ਹੈਂ ਸੋਹਣੇ ਰੱਬ ਦਾ ਵੇ

tooN khi-aal haiN sohanay rab daa vay

You are a thought of the divine. He thought that this type of a person, this type of human body should be sculptured and that’s how we came into being.

ਤੇ ਸੋਹਣੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ ਤੈਥੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਆਸ ਹੋਣੀ

tay sohanee jihee hee taithoN ko-ee aas honee

You are a beautiful thought of His, and He must have a very beautiful expectation from you too.

Your true self is very beautiful. That’s what He expects from you, something beautiful.

ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਹੈ ਸੱਜਣਾ ਵੇ

museebat sabh toN vadee hai sajnaa vay

ਖਿਆਲ ਮਾੜੇ ਤੇ ਜਿੰਦ ਨਿਰ ਆਸ ਹੋਣੀ

khi-aal maarhay tay jind nir aas honee

Beauty always is within. The biggest problem, the biggest obstacle to realizing the truth is negativity. How can I do this, I need this, I need that, how can I, it’s impossible - this is the problem! Negativity is the biggest problem. Why can’t it happen ? God is within our home, waiting to take us home. We put a barricade in front of ourselves that I cannot do this. Even God cannot do anything to help a person who decides that I cannot do this. He does not force anyone.
