Transliteration Key for Gurbani

Please focus at the hirdaa (heart area).

We should beg to the divine that please bring and keep my consciousness there. We cannot bring it ourselves; the Guru brings our consciousness there.

We are having darshan of different merciful faces of the Guru. Yesterday we saw the face of the Guru as father of his daughters. Another face of His is when he addresses us as a father of sons. He says you all are my sons. It’s not sons or daughters in the worldly sense. We all are consciousness.

satguroo no milay say-ee jan ubray jin hirdai naam samaari-aa.

Maharaj Ji says that those who obey the Guru, and do what the Guru instructs; they do meditation by becoming focused at the hirdaa, feel the Divine there, and they are given rebirth. Hence they come out of the cycle of birth and death.

jan naanak kay gursikh puthahu har japi-ahu har nistaari-aa.

He says feel the divine within; today He says feel Him at the hirdaa. Keep feeling Him. Jap means to remember again and again. The divine makes Himself felt as long as we remember Him with love and we are available to feel Him. He says keep feeling Him and by feeling Him you will be reborn; you will become your true self, your soul, and freed from the cycle of birth and death. Maharaj Ji says they remember Him at the hirdaa and feel Him there.

jan naanak kay gursikh puthahu har japi-ahu har nistaari-aa.

He says, oh my sons. Oh my sons. You all are my beloved sons. Remember God all the time. Feel Him. Hear Him. Hence, “anhad naad.” You will be given new birth out of Him, and you would become immortal.

har japi-ahu har nistaari-aa.

Let us move in anti-clockwise direction at the hirdaa while singing this, and Maharaj Ji will appear there. (#meditation)

aan achaar bi-uhaar hai jaytay bin har simran fok.

Maharaj Ji says no matter how good a person you are, if you’re not attached to the Divine, your consciousness cannot transform. The consciousness cannot be transformed without feeling the divine. You cannot be given rebirth. You cannot become peaceful. You cannot get out of the cycle of birth and death.

Dhaarnaa:

utho vay raboN, vatan sambhaalo, keetee jay dayree kioN

laal jee, keetee jay dayree kioN

Oh my dear friends, you are the Divine. You are the Divine. Once ego is not there, what’s left behind is Divine. Wake up, and recognize your inner world.

bin nigaah day, nain fok tay, bin ishq day hee-aa

Eyes without sight are useless. A “hirda” without “ishq” is empty.

bin sakooN day, kaaHdee mastee, tay binaa mahik pushpee-aa

What is that intoxication; that intoxication of wealth, power, youth, etc. which does not make us peaceful? And a flower with no fragrance in it; that flower cannot be called a flower!

nij binaa eh jisam kabar hai, naa jee andar naa pee-aa

And if we don’t realize our true self, our soul, and God within, then this body is just a grave; a grave which does not contain anything alive.

aydooN vaDh, kaNgaal kee honaa, jay rahay khajaanay achhoH

It’s the height of poverty if the indescribable treasures; the inner treasures are there, but we never touch them.

laal jee keetee jay dayree kioN

Please stay at the hirdaa.

The question which was asked yesterday was, we have heard a lot, and many times we utter ourselves - inner voice. What is the inner voice?

The inner voice is the voice of our true self, the voices of our souls, and the souls are within our bodies. It can be heard only if we are reborn.

Until we realize our true self, the voices which we utter are the voices of our minds. And if through meditation, through hearing the Celestial Music, we become totally peaceful, tranquil, still (sunn) within, deep silence, then we would be able to have glimpses of our inner voice; the voice of our soul. When there are no desires, no thoughts, and the inside is still, only then we can start hearing the inner voice. We start feeling more and more, and thinking less and less.

Then we don’t feel like we do now by focusing at a certain point (dhi-aan); the thoughts stop and we become very silent and then anything that comes into the consciousness is not our own thought, it comes directly from God because we are connected to Him.

As we start becoming more peaceful, the thoughts and worries will diminish. Thoughts are the worries because we only think about things that we worry about. Then we start hearing our inner voice.

Please understand this. We will talk more about it in the coming days. From a young age, we have been hearing that rose is a beautiful flower; its color, its fragrance is beautiful.

Our true self only says something that it feels. The mind does not feel; it thinks and speaks.

Right now all our talk is from the sleepy consciousness; from the mind, which we have heard or learned from outside.

I was saying that we have heard from childhood that the rose is most beautiful. The rose is so great, but I don’t feel this is my inner voice. This is not the voice of my inside. My insides are saying every flower is so beautiful. Every flower is so unique.

Flower means the soul that has blossomed. Any soul could blossom! A plant blossomed and became the flower, and what was the result - the fragrance. Our soul is the flower which contains the fragrance of the divine. To become the soul is to be connected to the divine; to become the fragrance of the divine.

Maybe a long time ago, somewhere, somebody who was influential, and people listened to him, maybe he said, (he or she is immaterial) that the rose flower is most beautiful, and people started believing them because they had faith in him, believed in him, and now we are believing the same. We are believing, not feeling. It is not our inner voice. Our inside’s don’t say that rose is the most beautiful flower.

Please understand what the inner voice is. We should only say something that comes from our inner voice and not something that we have just heard from the world or to make someone happy. We will talk more about this later.

When the Guru addresses us as a father of His sons, He says:

baabaanee-aa kahaanee-aa put saput karayn.

Maharaj Ji says that when their sons listen to Guru Sahib’s beautiful stories, they become His most beautiful sons, Gursikhs, and then they tell others those stories, and the others become Gursikhs too!

je satgur bhaavai so man lain say-ee karam karayn.

Those stories are Gurbani, and from those stories one learns what the Guru likes or does not like. Then they only do what is pleasing to the Guru.

sachai laa-ay sach lagay sadaa sach samaalayn.

Maharaj Ji says that those who remember the stories of the Guru, and do what the Guru asks us to do, then the Guru attaches them to the Divine, and they remain attached to the Divine.

naanak aa-ay say parvaan bha-ay je saglay kul taarayn.

Maharaj Ji says that their coming into this world is fruitful because they have realized their true self, and what else? One who realizes their true self, God frees their family lineages (kul) and ferries them across - family on the mother’s side, father’s side, and in-laws.

Dhaarnaa:

From previous deewaan:

jazbaatee darvaajaa….. naa oHday dar daa nee….. dil di-aaN…. hathaaN naal khulay

ishtihaar oho sochaaN diaaN chauNkaaN vich, muhabataaN day guman daa laavay

The consciousness must always remember that I have ishq within me and it is lost. Forehead is the crossroads for the mind; from here the mind runs outward in all directions. We must put an advertisement at this crossroads, which means we must remember that the Ishq within me is lost.

jisamsaaj day shahir vich aakay oho, talaash muhabat karay

Then he comes to know that the ishq for the Divine is within, it’s not outside, it’s within. So he comes inside the city of the Divine and starts searching for ishq.

New lines:

lamaa chir rahay us…… shahir dee-aaN galee-aaN ch……… kujh….. saar muhabat pavay

And then they start dwelling within, and after dwelling within for quite some time, they start feeling what is true love, what is “ishq.”

I was saying that these Dharnas are not just some mind pleasing songs. These are the personal experiences, and are sung in the hope that maybe it would benefit someone.

lamee-aaN udeekaaN dee-aaN…… tanhaa-ee-aaN lamee-aaN vay…… kaday…. kaday oh udaas karay

Longing for that ishq, one has to wait for a long time. It takes a long time to become the true self. It takes the solitude, the loneliness, you move away from the world; moving away from the world means that you don’t say or hear anything false. False here means anything that we talk about other than the Divine - Maharaj Ji says that is false. Sometimes you are sad that it’s taking so long to be filled with ishq.

The next part of the letter from Edmonton:

Baba Ji, now my state is such that I am always looking for the holy dust of the feet of the sangat. When I go to Darbar Sahib and bow to Maharaj Ji, I don’t feel like lifting my head up. I can see that transformation is taking place. Listen to the current Khajana Darshan at least twice and the older Khajana Darshan from 2011, and try to pick pearls from them. As I walk this path, it feels like that path is widening more and more. Initially just reciting paath felt like a lot, then I started feeling that doing Simran in the morning and evening was sufficient. But now even with Nitnem, Simran, Khajana Darshan, the heart keeps craving for more and I feel like having the darshan of the exalted sangat. Sometimes I feel that the path is long but there is a firm faith that God is taking me towards my true self.

The purpose of reading these letters is so we can learn from souls who have reached somewhere on this path, and to listen to their stories in their own words.

Dhaarnaa:

vay mainoo…… tayray baajh  jioona….. gunaah lagi-aa

ajhal….. jadoN see darad ho-i-aa….. birhoN day dukhaaN daa

jhat….. yaad aa-i-aa bol tayraa….. darvaysee rukhaaN daa

When the pain of separation became unbearable, I remember your words about the patience of the trees.

Maharaj Ji says:

darvaysaaN no lorhee-ai rukhaaN dee jeeraaNd.

Maharaj Ji says that those who are in search of the true self, or the Divine; they must have the patience of the trees; the trees who remain unmoved by so powerful storms, winds, and so cruel weathers.

rukh kioN maithoN uchay pataa……taaN lagi-aa

vay mainoo…… tayray baajh  jioona….. gunaah lagi-aa
