ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
॥ ਜਪੁ॥
ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥
Please come at the hirdaa (heart area)
Yesterday, we saw with His grace.
ਪਵਣੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਧਰਤਿ ਮਹਤੁ ॥
pavan guroo paanee pitaa maataa Dharat mahat.
We understood with His grace that our existence is not separate from the rest of His creation, from what we call nature. We are fully part of nature; we cannot exist without air, water, earth, sun. We are part of the whole; part and parcel. We created the problem ourselves when we did not recognize this, and created our own little worlds in His world.
We can see clearly that what we call love, has no trace of love; that is emotional attachment that arises out of our respective selfish interests. Ishq, is something totally different. We are the ishq, and the mind is the worldly, so-called love, emotional attachment. Attachment means no freedom. By attaching ourselves, we lost our freedom and somehow strangely the mind makes us believe that this is better than the freedom; you have somebody. We love calling that person mine; we love showing the world because the world also knows that language. Ishq means that where the lover dissolves into the Beloved. The bubble is in ishq with the ocean and dissolves into the ocean forever; there is no trace of sorrows or misery. That’s what ishq means. In worldly love, can anybody dissolve into anybody? Let alone dissolve, there is conflict; inner conflicts are always there but it takes a little time for them to ferment and come out.
When two people are attached to each other, there is a presence of two egos. Ego is going to clash; it will remain alright for a few months but then the clash will begin. Ego means I am separate, my existence is separate. There will be conflict! Ishq is completely different.
Please remain so tightly with our Beloved at the hirdaa.
ਫਰੀਦਾ ਪੰਖ ਪਰਾਹੁਣੀ ਦੁਨੀ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ਬਾਗੁ ॥
fareedaa pankh paraahunee dunee suhaavaa baag.
ਨਉਬਤਿ ਵਜੀ ਸੁਬਹ ਸਿਉ ਚਲਣ ਕਾ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਜੁ ॥
na-ubat vajee subah si-o chalan kaa kar saaj.
Maharaj Ji says everyone comes here as a visitor on this planet, and this planet is like a tree; everybody comes and sits on the branches of the tree for the night. When the dawn comes, one has to depart.
What happens is that we get attached to a leaf on the tree and make that leaf the center of our life. When we make a small leaf on the tree so deserving of all our love, we start working opposite to the laws of nature; we are ishq and ishq loves the whole, not just the part. The leaf is a part of the tree. Our true self, our soul, loves the entire universe. When we make a small leaf of that huge tree the center of our life, then we start writing the pains and misery in our destiny with our own hands.
I am not opposed to getting married but those who are not married and keep dreaming about it, we don;t have to go far; at some point your parents probably dreamt about getting married as well. Ask them if they ever dream about marriage now.
Today we have the time to recognize who we are and why we are here. Maharaj Ji says:
ਆਪਣ ਹਥੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਕਾਜੁ ਸਵਾਰੀਐ ॥
aapan hathee aapnaa aapay hee kaaj savaaree-ai.
With our own hands, either we will create suffering or peace.
ਜੀਅ ਦਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਦੀਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
jee-a daan gur poorai dee-aa raam naam chit laa-ay.
God gave us the soul and the world gave us the mind, and made us into something false. Now God meets us in the form of the Guru and unites us with our true self again. The Guru bestows the gift of the soul upon us.
Please see the next line of this shabad. Maharaj Ji says, who receives the gift of the soul, of the true self? Those who hear Gurbaanee. Please grasp this.
ਬਾਣੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣੀ ਸਿਧਿ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
banee raam naam sunee siDh kaaraj sabh suhaa-ay raam.
He says those who hear Gurbaanee, all of their affairs are taken care of.
We know that the reason we cannot hear Gurbaanee is because our consciousness is all occupied with our own worlds. There is another deep reason. Please understand this.
We all are carrying our own wounds, our own misery, our own hurts, our own conflicts, and we want to share them with others. Please understand this because we must change our life starting today. If someone is happy and wants to share how they are so lucky and have this and that, we doubt them; we feel their ego is speaking. Because no one is interested in hearing about our positives, we seldom talk about it. The other person wants that someone hears about their wounds, hurts, sufferings and we want that as well. When we share them with others, those vibes of misery, vibes of conflict, vibes of suffering, vibes of wounds; we transmit those vibes to the other person and the other person receives them. Those vibes also spread in the environment. So, what is happening? We have learned the language of wounds, of hurts, of sufferings, of conflicts, that’s the language we speak all the time. The language of Gurbaanee is ishq and our language is the language of misery, hurts, wounds. That’s why Gurbaanee does not get heard.
We talk about sufferings, and Maharaj Ji talks about bliss. We talk about all the conflicts we have within, and Maharaj Ji talks about peace. We talk about death, and Maharaj Ji talks about immortality. How can we ever understand that? Our languages are different. Gurbaanee is the language of the ishq and our language is the language of misery, sufferings, and doubts; untrusting.
Maharaj Ji says it is of utmost importance to hear Gurbaanee to receive the jee-a daan - the gift of our soul, our true self, from the Guru.
ਰੋਮੇ ਰੋਮਿ ਰੋਮਿ ਰੋਮੇ ਮੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਰਾਮ ॥
romay rom rom romay mai gurmukh raam Dhi-aa-ay raam.
romay rom - every pore of the Gurmukh.
He says when you go inside you are no longer that person who used to be outside; you are Gurmukh, you are getting in touch with your true self, and the true self remains permanently with her Beloved.
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਊਪਜੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ਬੈਰਾਗਿ ॥
sehjay hee bhagat oopjai sahj pi-aar bairaag.
When we start hearing Gurbani, love for our Beloved, whom we are feeling, will arise within; bairaag (detachment, longing) will arise within; tears that I have wasted so much of my life and tears of joy that I am so fortunate to experience this love story - a combination of those tears will flow. It will give rise to tranquility, silence within us. Please focus at the heart.
Dhaarnaa:
ਦਰਦੀ ਕੂਕਾਂ ਬਣੀਆਂ….ਅੱਜ ਮਿੱਠੜੇ ਤੇੇਰੇ ਬੋਲ ਵੇ
dardee kookaN banee-aaN…..aj mitharhay tayray bol vay
Oh my Beloved, your so sweet, compassion filled, love filled utterances, have caused deep grief in me; grief, regret, longing.
ਸਾਡੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਆਈ ਇਕੱਲ ਜੋ…..ਉਹ ਸੀਨੇ ਪਾਉਂਦੀ ਸ਼ੋਰ ਵੇ
saaday hisay aa-ee ikal jo……oh seenay paa-ouN-dee shor vay
As we become more and more familiar with ishq, our inside keeps becoming more silent. The more we remain with the Divine, the more we become silent and feel like being by ourselves. We are not alone in that aloneness, our Beloved is with us, and the ishq is such that you don’t want anyone else there. Ishq is the most intimate and individualistic act of transformation. It is the most intimate relationship when you meet someone and the meeting happens away from this world. You can meet a friend and close the door when talking to them but meeting your Beloved takes you to another world. My inside has become so silent that the silence is making an uproar now - please reflect on this.
ਸਡੇ ਵਿਹੜੇ ਨੱਚਦੀ ਚੁੱਪ ਤੇ……. ਗ਼ਮ ਦੇਂਦੇ ਉਹਨੂੰ ਤਾਲ ਵੇ
saaday vih-rhay nachdee chup tay….. gam dayNday oHnoo taal vay
As we start dwelling more and more with our Beloved, and become more and more peaceful and still within, then a very deep silence would captivate us; silence within and silence around us. You would feel that silence of some deep cave is within you and around you, and that silence keeps you protected from the noise of the world; that silence, that peace, that stillness, that aura keeps you shielded from the worldly things.
ਇਸ਼ਕ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ….ਅੱਜ ਕਿਸ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਤੇ
ishq mayra pahunchi-aa aj kis mukaam tay

The moment we start becoming or realizing more of the real self, and less of the mind, our lives will start becoming celebrations; celebration, period! No misery, no wounds; there is no reason even now for us to carry our past hurt and keep burning in that fire. Right?
Forgive the ones who hurt you. It will free us from the hurt and they will be free as well. To carry the wounds, the misery, the conflicts, the hurts, cannot help us anyway. They only become a hurdle for us to recognize the real self, and to become free. We have the chance; the arrangements have been made for us by His nature to be free; to be free and taste ishq, and start feeling friendliness towards everyone and everything.
ਦਿਲਹੁ ਮੁਹਬਤਿ ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਸੇਈ ਸਚਿਆ ॥
dilahu muhabat jinH say-ee sachi-aa.
When we feel the Divine at the heart, He pours muhabat in our heart, that is ishq. We should sit by ourselves for longer and longer periods of time, and keep a line of Gurbaanee or Dhaarnaa with us, and drown in it. We should go so deep within that we should become totally unaware about our physical limitations. physical boundaries, because we are the consciousness, and consciousness cannot be contained in a body. Even now, it is not contained within us; it is everywhere, but we are not there to see its truth.
Bhai Nand Lal Ji says:
ਸਬਾਅ ਚੂੰ ਹਲਕਾ ਹਾਇ ਜ਼ੁਲਫ਼ਿ ਊ ਰਾ ਸ਼ਾਨਾ ਮੀ ਸਾਜ਼ਦ
sabaa chooN halkaa haa-i zulaf oo raa shaanaa mee saazad
The sweet morning breeze is playing with the area of my forehead.
Dhaarnaa:
ਸਾਡੇ ਮਸਤਕ ਨਾਲ ਖੇਡਦੀਆਂ….ਵੇ ਵਾਵਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਾਂ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ
saaday mastak naal khayd-dee-aaN …..vay vaavaaN tayray saahaaN vaalee-aaN

Those of us who can, please feel the Divine at the forehead, as well as at the hirdaa.
Then, Nand Lal Ji says:
ਅਜਿਬ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰ ਅਜ਼ ਬਹਰਿ ਦਿਲਿ ਦੀਵਾਨਾ ਮੀ ਸਾਜ਼ਦ ॥
ajib zanjeer az bahir dil deevaanaa mee saazad.
ajib zanjeer - the most amazing chain.
Bhai Nand Lal Ji says that the most amazing chain of your ishq for me has encoiled my heart, and my heart has become crazy. Now all it does is say tu, tu, tu (You, You, You!)
This is the language of those who have done ishq. Our language is different. Gurbani is another language; it is the language of ishq, and our language is the language of regrets, complaints, sufferings. We must learn this language of ishq, because our innate language, the language of our true self, is ishq. Until we learn this language of ishq, our true self will remain hidden. We should remember His utterances and sing them, drink them, and enjoy the peace and ishq that arises within us because of them.
ਅਜਿਬ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰ ਅਜ਼ ਬਹਰਿ ਦਿਲਿ ਦੀਵਾਨਾ ਮੀ ਸਾਜ਼ਦ ॥
ajib zanjeer az bahir dil deevaanaa mee saazad.
Your ishq is the most amazing chain for the hearts, which makes the hearts crazy for You; which steals people’s hearts, and their hearts become Yours.
Dhaarnaa:
ਪਾਈਆਂ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਅਜਬ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰਾਂ…….ਵੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ
paa-ee-aaN dil noo tooN ajab zanjeeraaN……vay saanoo chhad tayraa ho gi-aa
You have chained my heart; Your ishq has chained my heart. It used to be mine, now it’s no longer mine; it’s Yours now. It doesn’t talk about me anymore, it only talks about You.
These are the stories of ishq. It should happen to us now. Let’s please drown in this thought, in this truth, in the aura of this thought.
ਪਾਈਆਂ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਅਜਬ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰਾਂ…….ਵੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ
