Maharaj Ji is so graceful that he has brought the sangat from all over the world to bless me with the pious dust of their feet.
We all are children of the same supreme power; real brothers and sisters who have our common father, and we all are carrying the same Divine light. Guru Nanak Dev Ji in his 10th appearance says:
maanas kee jaat sabai aikai pahichaanbo.
He says recognize that all humanity is one. He doesn’t say understand it; He says recognize it, know it. Through meditation you would come to know that you are the Divine light, and so is everybody else.
So we all are the same. Today, a daughter of mine from La Paz gave me a drawing; there were two flowers on it. At the top it was written, you and me are the same. How beautiful!
Imagine how beautiful we all are but because of our minds, that beauty has been covered.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji says that God speaks through me; it’s not me. When the God spoke through Guru Nanak, the very first words He uttered were:
naa ko-ee hindoo, naa ko-ee musalmaan
He said there’s no Hindu, or Muslim, or Christian, or Jew, or Buddhist. You all are humans. My children.
Guru Granth Sahib Ji who is enthroned here, is carrying hymns; I call them love letters from the Divine to His children. Guru Granth Sahib Ji contains not only the utterances of Guru Nanak during his all those appearances, but many other saints from different religions.
He announced that God does not recognize you as a Christian, or Buddhist, or Jew, or Muslim; He sees you as his child. So, Guru Nanak loved all religions. He said all prophets are mine. The world is fighting but He said that all prophets are mine. How beautiful! This is what our father said and we are His children. Our heart should be like Him.
In the beginning of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, He says:
sochai soch na hova-ee jay sochee lakh vaar.
Soch means pure. He says the thoughts of the mind are impure because they remain in the territory of greed, lust, anger, ego, attachment. He says, because of your impure thoughts you are restless, unpeaceful, unloving, uncompassionate. You, yourself cannot purify your consciousness, your mind, no matter any method you adopt. You, yourself cannot purify your mind because you are the mind.
You can do anything but you cannot become quiet. You may close your mouth but your mind is going to keep chattering within, and you cannot stop that.
Then He says:
bhukhi-aa bhukh na utree jay bannaa puree-aa bhaar.
Even if you own all the wealth in the universe, you will still remain hungry, starving.
So we can recognize that we feel starved, we feel suffering, and we feel sizzling - we can feel our insides are not peaceful, not cool; insides are sizzling and we feel starved; I need this, I need that. We are suffering all the time, not from anybody else, but from our own minds.
He says:
mitar pi-aaraa naanak jee mai chhad gavaa-i-aa rang kasumbhai bhulee.
Oh dear Nanak (He is speaking on our behalf). Oh dear Nanak, there was only one friend of mine in this universe and He was very dear to me, and I have forsaken Him for the alluring colors of the world. Those colors are alluring but they are not fast colors; they are going to fade in no time. I never recognized that; I thought this person was going to stay like this.
But the mind never let me see the truth. He only showed me the beautiful dreams, which were all an illusion. And what a fool I have been!
Who is our real friend? Guru is our real friend because through the Guru, God tells us how much He loves us. Through Guru, God guides us, teaches us, and with Guru’s ishq filled presence we transform into our real self.
Today, when sangat came to bless me with the dust of their feet, I was so pleasantly surprised. Many of the youth; they were very young, 20 years old; they were saying that I want to find myself, I want to connect with myself. They were so eager; you could see that they were starving to know who they were and feel the self. This is all God’s grace. It’s the Guru who tells us how to realize your true self, how to meet your Creator and how to become one with Him.
Nobody else, no relatives, no friends, nobody else in this universe can make us meet our souls or our Creator, or make us really peaceful except the Guru.
He says: He was my true friend and I have forsaken him for the illusionary world. The True Guru was my only true friend, and I lost him in return to the transitory, illusionary world, which my mind made me believe that it is true.
Those colors which I fell for, faded away in no time and I was left with nothing in my hands. Nothing in my hands except regrets.
mitar pi-aaraa naanak jee mai chhad gavaa-i-aa rang kasumbhai bhulee.
ta-o sajan kee mai keem na pa-udee ha-o tuDh bin adh na lahdee.
Oh my Beloved, the True Guru, You are my real friend but I did not value You. You kept telling me the truth and warning me but I never really cared for what You were saying. I never valued you, and here I am, because I did not value you.
Because I did not value You, I am valueless today. I don’t have any value; I have nothing in me except all the demerits. Had I valued you, I would have been precious today but I’m of no value today.
ta-o sajan kee mai keem na pa-udee ha-o tuDh bin adh na lahdee.
Had I listened to You, God Himself would be dwelling in my house today. I would have been the temple of the Divine; how precious I would have been! And here I am, not even worth half a shell!
He says:
jis too vuthaa chit tis darad nivaarno.
In whose home you start dwelling, all his or her pains fly away.
jis mili-aa pooraa guroo so sarpar taarno.
Sarpar means most certainly. Whomsoever the True Guru meets, most certainly that person realizes his or her soul, and meets God.
jis aa-i-aa hath niDhaan so rahi-aa bhaalno.
Whosoever meets the True Guru, God comes in his hands, and he stops looking for anything now because he becomes totally fulfilled forever.
oh sabhnaa kee rayn birhee chaarno.
Whomsoever the True Guru meets, he becomes the dust of everybody and full of ishq, true love.
God is so merciful to us that He is blessing us with the dust of the feet of His devotees from all over the world.
Dhaarnaa:
Oh my mother, from where these days have arrived that I’m being blessed with so much dust of the holy feet.
Dhoorhee agay, Dhoorhee pichhay, Dhoorhee vich bithaa-ay
While I was coming here, I was being blessed with the pious dust all the way. I came here, and I got blessed with lots of pious dust, and now I am sitting in that pious dust.
Oh my mother, have these days come themselves, they made some plan amongst them, or my beautiful beloved sent them, these days. Oh my mother, these so virtuous days, did they come on their own? Did they make some plans to come one after the other and bless us, or my beautiful Beloved sent these days?
keeHnoo taras pa-i-aa nee aydaa keenay karam kamaa-ay
Oh my mother, who became so merciful to me. And is it the Divine who had, who has been so merciful to me.
A daughter of mine came from Uruguay. She is with us for a few days. Then she would go back and take care of the children, and her husband would come. How blessed these souls are! She writes: Dear Baba Ji, my heart rings out with joy, love, and gratitude to see all the sangat and to be together again in holy communion with my brothers and sisters who have traveled from far and near. As you have told us, this is a celebration of the great blessing of life, the great gifts of Maharaj Ji, of the human body, consciousness, and soul. We are all connected, we are one in this stream of life, universal life energy. I want to thank you all for your love and devotion, for showing me and all of us a better way to be; to be fearless while gentle and loving. As I write this, a tiny beautiful praying mantis landed next to this card. This is a blessing from Earth. What a blessing mother Earth, Mata Ji is. Mata Ji is boundless in generosity and abundance. This small creature always has their hands in prayer. I aspire to be like him or her, connected to the truth, love, and light, to complete my mission in this lifetime. I am humbled because this is not easy. There are so many distractions, but being close to sangat makes me strong, gives me courage and resolve. I thank everyone of you
How beautiful, how moving it is. Thank you, thank you my darling hija (daughter, in Spanish).
Ji, Guru Granth Sahib Ji makes us meet our souls and our Creator because it’s the Guru who becomes the mediator and He is here amongst us.
This dhaarnaa is about Him. These couplets are about Him.
Dhaarnaa:
navaaN hee parahunaa ik aa-i-aa saaday shahir nee, navaaN hee parahunaa
It says: a new guest has arrived in our city today. navaaN - new, parahunaa - guest, saaday shahir - my city.
pi-aaraaN vaalaa bigal, vajaa-i-aa saaday shahir nee
And he has blown a horn of love. A very loud horn of love.
jis too vuthaa chit tis darad nivaarno.
He says Guru makes us meet the Divine, and then we become free of all the sufferings.
sukhaaN dee davaa-ee laikay aa-i-aa saaday shahir nee, sukhaaN dee davaa-ee
And I have heard that he has brought medicine for all kinds of diseases and we become peace; not just peaceful, but we become peace!
Dhaarnaa (end)
I’m utterly grateful to all of you who have traveled from across the Globe. God bless you. Waheguru.
This is the song of joy, Anand Sahib, song of bliss.
anand bha-i-aa mayree maa-ay satguroo mai paa-i-aa.
Oh my mother, I met the true Guru, and today I am feeling so blissful.
