ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

॥ ਜਪੁ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥  ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

I was asking, why are we all here? I know that each and every one of us has many answers but there is one reason; the other reasons are just branches of that reason, and that is to pay gratitude to our Creator. In Japji Sahib, Maharaj Ji says:

ਆਦੇਸੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਆਦੇਸੁ

aadays tisai aadays.

I bow down to Him, I bow down to Him, I bow down to Him. Why? In gratitude. When we bow down to somebody, we are grateful to that person. Otherwise, our mind can never bow down to anyone. We are here to bow down to Him; to recognize His blessings and thank Him.

ਆਦੇਸੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਆਦੇਸੁ

aadays tisai aadays.

In gratitude I bow down to you.

ਆਦਿ ਅਨੀਲੁ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਅਨਾਹਤਿ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਏਕੋ ਵੇਸੁ

aad aneel anaad anaahat jug jug ayko vays.

ਆਦੇਸੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਆਦੇਸੁ

aadays tisai aadays.

ਭੁਗਤਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਦਇਆ ਭੰਡਾਰਣਿ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਵਾਜਹਿ ਨਾਦ

bhugat gi-aan da-i-aa bhandaaran ghat ghat vaajeh naad.

 

Maharaj Ji says when true knowledge is realized, one recognizes the truth that I am not a body made of flesh and bones; I am something else, I don’t know what it is but the one that speaks, hears, sees, understands, thinks, and performs actions, is not the body; something does it through the body - I am that thing. Later on He tells us that you are not this body and not even that thing, but we will go there later.

bhugat  - means to enjoy.

Maharaj Ji says that with His grace and through meditation when we come to know that yes, the truth in fact dwells within me; I feel Him. Then, while staying with Him, one enjoys the peace, love, stillness that results from remaining with Him.

He says the Divine is the treasure of that Divine knowledge and because of His merciful nature He transfers that treasure to us when we unite with Him in meditation. One of the treasures is Celestial Music, which is being played within everyone everywhere. One of the blessings He blesses us from His treasure is the realization of the Celestial Music.

Please focus close to your ears and hear the sound of saaN, saaN. Initially, it starts with the sound of saaN saaN; later we realize what it is!

The Divine shows us the truth, who you are, and what is all this around you.

Sometimes the term “heavenly treasures” is used. Poor heaven! Heaven is nothing. It’s not from heaven, it’s not from heavenly father. We cannot put into words the name of His land, the name of His house. Maharaj Ji only says that wherever the Divine sits, that is His court (dargaah). The true knowledge, the realization of the truth gives us peace, stillness, real comfort. We enjoy the real peace, the stillness of the consciousness that can only happen with His presence. One of the blessings out of His treasure is the Celestial Music and for this thing, aadays tisai aadays, I bow down to Him.

ਆਦੇਸੁ ਤਿਸੈ ਆਦੇਸੁ

aadays tisai aadays.

Let us please remain focused at the ears, bring our consciousness to the ears, and recognize the Celestial Music, however feeble it may be heard in the beginning.

Dhaarnaa:

ਦੂਰੋਂ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਨਾਦ ਨੀ…….ਮੁੜ ਆਈ ਸਾਂ ਮਾਏ

dooroN vaykh kay naad nee…..murh aa-ee saaN maa-ay

I just saw the Celestial Music from a distance and turned around.

ਇਹ ਚੀਜ ਕੀ..ਕੇਹੀ ਦਾਤ ਹੈ….ਨਾ ਜਾਣੀ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ

ih cheej kee….kayhee daat hai…..naa jaanee nee maa-ay

I never went close to it, never spent time with it, to know what a blessing it is!

This beautiful poem is from a soul that dwells in Bulandpuri Sahib at present, who has won the game of life. The caption of this poem is: Dhan su tayraa thaan - Blessed is the place where You sit and the whole universe is His place.

ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ….. ਤਖ਼ਤ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾ…..ਜਿੱਥੇ…… ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਸਵੇਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਰੰਗ ਦੀ

sanoo taaN pi-aaraa tayraa…..takhat hazaaraa……jithay….charh-dee savayr tayray raNg dee

I love the place where You dwell, where the morning is like Your complexion. I love that place where the day breaks when I see the light that is emanating from You.

ਸਾਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ….. ਤਖ਼ਤ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾ…..ਜਿੱਥੇ…… ਚੜ੍ਹਦੀ ਸਵੇਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਰੰਗ ਦੀ

sanoo taaN pi-aaraa tayraa…..takhat hazaaraa……jithay….charh-dee savayr tayray raNg dee

Also, please feel the Divine light, not away from us but emanating from right within us and we can feel it around our faces. Just come that close, come within our skin so we can feel the light emanating from us. We are all the divine lights. Maharaj Ji calls us chand mukh. chand mukh means face of the moon that is emitting the cool, pleasing, comforting, stilling light out of it.

ਕੈਦੋਆਂ ਦੇ ਡੇਰੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ……ਖੂਹਾਂ ਚ ਹਨੇਰੇ ਜਿੱਥੇ……..ਧਰਤੀ ਨਾ ਰਾਸ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਝੰਗ ਦੀ

kaido-aaN day dayray jithay……khoohaaN day hanayray jithay…….Dhartee naa raas saanoo jhang dee

kaidoN was Heer’s uncle who had seen Heer and Raanjhaa sitting together once and became their enemy. He did not want to see them together. Here, our mind is the enemy of our union with the Divine; the mind never wants, and is never going to let us meet with our Beloved.

Where I am living, there are kaidoN’s; there are those who don’t want me to meet my Beloved. Also, there are dark blind wells where I live; this place does not suit me. This is not my place; I don’t want to live here.

There are blind wells, there are enemies of our union; this is not my country.

Maharaj Ji says:

ਆਤਮ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਾਮ ਮਹਿ ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਸਿ ਗੁਰ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ

aatam meh raam raam meh aatam cheenas gur beechaaraa.

This hymn is uttered by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in His first appearance.

He says you are the truth. It’s not you, it’s God. Even though we have come a long way, the things are not crystal clear. Things are clear and that’s why Maharaj Ji is blessing us with a space in His court, but they are not crystal clear.

Maharaj Ji says there is no human here, no animals, no birds, no worms, no water, fire, or air, or anything. It’s just the souls and the Divine. Then, He goes one step further and says it’s just Him. We must understand this. This is very deep!

He says there are no people, no trees, nothing; it’s actually just the Divine but in order to create a play, He has created souls. So, there are only souls and God in the universe and they are intertwined, so God is in the soul and the soul is in God. With His grace, we will open this line. It will take 4-5 weeks if we can, to understand just this one line.

ਆਤਮ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਾਮ ਮਹਿ ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨਸਿ ਗੁਰ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ

aatam meh raam raam meh aatam cheenas gur beechaaraa.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀ ਦੁਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਹਉ ਮਾਰਾ

amrit banee sabad pachhaanee dukh kaatai ha-o maaraa.

Every utterance of His, each line of His utterance, if it is explained and not in verses, would make a big granth (tome).

Dhaarnaa:

ਆਖੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਬਾਤ ਪਾਵਾਂ…..ਅੱਜ ਇੱਕ ਸੱਜਣਾ ਵੇ…..ਤੇ ਤੂੰ…..ਰੱਖੀਂ ਉਸ ਬਾਤ ਦਾ ਨਾਅ

aakhayN taaN maiN baat paavaaN …..aj ik sajanaa vay……tay tooN…..rakheeN us baat daa naa

I don’t know the name of this story but I will tell you the story, and you can name it.

ਬਾਤ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ….ਲਫਜ਼ਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੇ….ਆਖ ਸੱਚ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ…ਦਿੱਤੀ ਏ ਮੁਕਾ

baat hai tayree mayree…..lafzaaN toN paraaN dee vay….aakh sach sahibaa….ditee ay mukaa

The story of you and me is beyond words, and my Beloved, the Creator, has described the whole story in one word. That word is sach (truth).

In parallel, we are going to keep looking at Siddh Gosht. We left in Indianapolis last time with the Siddhas questions to Maharaj Ji.

ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਟਾਇਆ

kit biDh purkhaa janam vataa-i-aa.

ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਤੁਝੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ

kaahay ka-o tujh ih man laa-i-aa.

ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਖਾਈ

kit biDh aasaa mansaa khaa-ee.

ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ

kit biDh jot nirantar paa-ee.

ਬਿਨੁ ਦੰਤਾ ਕਿਉ ਖਾਈਐ ਸਾਰੁ

bin dantaa ki-o khaa-ee-ai saar.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੧੯॥

naanak saachaa karahu beechaar. ||19||

Siddhas asked Maharaj Ji, how have you become the Divine light? Please tell us the truth.

Previously Siddhas spent many days asking Maharaj Ji so many questions making fool of him, showing their miraculous powers to impress Maharaj Ji and to frighten him. Maharaj Ji would just laugh at them and say, what are you doing? Is this what you have gained, these miracles?  Have these miracles changed you? Have these miracles benefited the world? What are you doing? What are you spending life for? Finally, the Siddhas bowed down to him.

Maharaj Ji answers them:

 

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਜਨਮੇ ਗਵਨੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ

satgur kai janmay gavan mitaa-i-aa.

I am reborn out of the True Guru, the Truth; True Guru and Truth are the same.

ਅਨਹਤਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇਆ

anhat raatay ih man laa-i-aa.

The True Guru lodged me into His pious womb. He made me become so intensely engaged in hearing the Celestial Music and feeling the Divine light as I was in His womb where He was going to recreate me.

ਮਨਸਾ ਆਸਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਈ

mansaa aasaa sabad jalaa-ee.

I was so absorbed in being inside the Divine light, the light of ishq, and the Celestial Music, the song of ishq; I was so absorbed in these two things that I had no desires; no desire ever came to my mind.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ

gurmukh jot nirantar paa-ee.

Keeping me in His holy womb, the True Guru transformed me into the Divine light. He said, I haven’t transformed you into the Divine light, you actually were the Divine light. All that was needed is to remove the falsehood from you and I just removed it by keeping you in my womb. You actually were the Divine light!

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮੇਟੇ ਖਾਈਐ ਸਾਰੁ

tarai gun maytay khaa-ee-ai saar.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾਰੇ ਤਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ

naanak taaray taaranhaar.

Earlier my consciousness remained in three states - waking up in the morning, the consciousness was anxious to run to work, make more money, become famous, and so forth. In the evening, the consciousness was occupied with getting ready, what to eat, who to meet, and then the third state in which the consciousness goes to sleep. Now my consciousness has come out of those three states, and has gone to another state which remains the same whether it is morning, evening, or night. Maharaj Ji calls that the fourth state of our consciousness or turiyaa state - that state of consciousness which remains the same, alive, never-changing, and  indestructible.

The True Guru is ishq and ishq has transformed me into ishq. Ishq showed me that you were actually ishq but you had become something else by following the world.

Dhaarnaa:

ਮਾਏ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ….. ਨੀ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਨੇ ਹੱਥ…. ਛੁਹਾਇਆ

maa-ay nee maa-ay…. nee saanoo ishq nay hath…. chhuhaa-i-aa

Oh, my mother, ishq has touched me.

ਤਾਲ ਧੜਕਨ ਦੀ…..ਤੇ ਚਾਲ ਸਾਹਾਂ ਦੀ…..ਨੇ ਇਬਾਦਤ ਰੂਪ… ਬਣਾਇਆ

taal Dharh-kan dee…tay chaal saahaaN dee….nay ibaadat roop….banaa-i-aa

The rhythm of my heartbeat and the gait of my breathing is a worship to the Creator. This worship is nothing but ishq; ishq worshiping the Divine. Ishq is gratefulness, another word is worship.
