Pandit’s had prepared a plea for Emperor Akbar and presented that plea to him that Guru Amar Das Ji (third appearance of Guru nanak Dev Ji) is destroying the Hindu religion, He does not obey any of the rituals and does not believe in gods. He does not believe in dividing humanity into classes; he is destroying the age-old Hindu religion. Guru Amar Das Ji sent Bhai Jaythaa Ji to the court of Akbar to answer the Pandit’s pleas.
Bhai Jaythaa Jee, who later became Guru Ram Das Ji, the fourth appearance of Guru Nanak, reached Choonaa Mandee in Lahore, which was his birthplace. Akbar was in Lahore at the time so Bhai Jaythaa Ji sent him a message that we are here to answer your questions regarding the Pandits’ plea. Emperor Akbar sent a messenger to very respectfully bring them to his court. Bhai Jaythaa Ji reached Akbar’s court; the Pandit’s were also present there.
At the outset, Bhai Jaythaa Ji sat down and recited Ik Oankaar 4-5 times and filled the entire court with the vibrations of Ik Oankaar. Everyone became very peaceful. Then Emperor Akbar requested the Pandits to ask their questions.
Their first point was that Guru Amar Das Ji does not believe in gods.
Bhai Jaythaa’s answers this by saying that Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message to humanity is that there is only one God; there is no other power in this universe except God. The belief that there are other gods on top of the one Truth is just a belief. Maharaj Ji says in Gurbaanee:
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਹੇਸ ਸਿਧ ਮੁਨਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਹੀ ਦਰਸਾਰੇ ॥
barahm mahays siDh mun indraa mohi thaakur hee darsaaray.
Maharaj Ji says Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva cannot have a separate existence; God has taken that form.
There is only one God and no other power; we should only worship Him. Maharaj Ji is not saying anything wrong or instigating anyone. Guru Nanak Dev Ji is filling the hearts of humanity with love and He is teaching them to love the Divine and to love each other.
The second plea was that they don’t recite Gayatree, which is an age-old belief. Worshiping Gayatree teaches us to worship the sun because there is life on earth, water, and skies because of the sun, and Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s disciples don’t do that. Bhai Jaythaa Ji said that it is a part of the truth that there is life on the earth, in the water, in the skies, because of the sun; the reason I said part of the truth is because it is up to God - what if He just creates the sun and nothing else. So, who would sustain the sun? Bhai Jaythaa Jee said: Guru Nanak Dev Ji tells us that there is not only just one sun in the universe; there are countless suns, moons, stars, planets, countless galaxies, countless skies. So, instead of worshiping the sun, we should worship the creator of everything. Only the Hindus recite Gayatree and Guru Nanak Dev Ji has given us the word, Waheguru, for the whole of humanity to recite and realize the truth. So, He is blessing the whole humanity with this sacred word and not just a few people.
The third plea of the Pandits to the emperor was that old rishis (sages) talked about God only in the language of Sanskrit, and Guru Nanak Dev Ji is going against the traditions and talking about God in the local languages. He is doing everything against the age old traditions. Bhai Jaythaa Jee said that it is true that the rishis spoke about God and gods in Sanskrit, and Pandits only learn Sanskrit and claim that only they can talk about God. Guru Nanak Dev Ji says that God does not belong to a section of humanity only; He dwells in all of His creation, in everyone. So, everyone is entitled to talk about God, to love God, to realize God, not just Pandits. That’s why Guru Nanak Dev Ji is talking about the truth in the local languages so that everybody can meet God.
Rest, we will see tomorrow.
Continuing to read a few lines from the letter that was sent by a sangat in Bulandpuri Sahib.
sanoo taaN pi-aaraa tayraa…..takhat hazaaraa……jithay….charh-dee savayr tayray raNg dee
day-hee-aaN toN paar tayraa……sachaa darbaar tayraa…..jind taa-hee-oN tainoo satkaardee
Beyond the human bodies, beyond the seeable, oh, my Beloved, there is your court which cannot be seen with these eyes. That’s why I have so much wondrous amazement.
ajlaaN toN heer tayree…..rahee ay jageer tayree……mathay tay sajaa-i-aa….tayray pi-aar noo
Please come at the forehead and feel Him there.
Since you created me, the soul, I have been your beloved; You own me. I keep decorating myself with your love by feeling You at the forehead. People put marks on their forehead indicating that the Divine can be felt here. I don’t just put that mark, I actually feel You.
Please stay there.
Maharaj Ji says:
abhi-aagat say-ee naankaa je aatam ga-on karayn.
abhi-aagat – Yogi’s who renounce the world.
Yogis renounce the world and go to the mountains. Maharaj Ji says the real yogis are those who reach their souls, not those who reach the mountains.
bhaal lahan saho aapnaa nij ghar rahan karayn.
The real yogis are those who seek out their Beloved and dwell with Him; that is their true home. They are the true yogis who search the Divine within, unite with Him, and remain united with Him; that is their true home, indestructible, everlasting, never-changing.
I was saying that many of the sangat who come to bless me with the dust of their feet tell me that they are taking so many pills every day; they are feeling pain and this and that. I was saying that medicine is really not good for the body. What medicine does is that doctors don’t cure the disease; they find out the symptoms of the disease and inject those symptoms in the mice. Then they create a medicine in the lab by mixing various chemicals. Those chemicals are mixed and tested on the mice. Whichever combination of the chemicals works on the mice to release the symptoms, that combination is given as medicine to the humans as well who have the same problem. That medicine changes our natural vibrations within so we do not feel the pain. Once the effect of the vibration is worn, all the components of the medicine come back to their original state and some of the chemicals can be harmful; they can change the very structure of the cells of the body and thus damage the body. So, we should avoid taking the medicine as much as possible.
Maharaj Ji says:
ji-o baisantar Dhaat suDh ho-ay ti-o har kaa bha-o durmat mail gavaa-ay.
He says that as an impure metal is purified by fire, impurities in our consciousness can be removed as well. Having the wrong thoughts, unnatural thoughts, negative thoughts, thoughts against our soul – lust, anger, greed, ego, jealousy, wishing bad for somebody – these thoughts create very harmful vibrations within us; they create problems and diseases. He says, if you remain in the fear of God; He tells us you must have both fear and ishq for God; if you remain in the fear of God, those harmful vibrations cannot arise within you; you cannot become diseased, and if you have become diseased then through meditation, through Simran, you can become healthy. What does Simran do? It heats up our inside and creates vibrations that nullify the negative vibrations. Even now if we feel our inside, we can feel the warmth within – in the tummy, along the spine, upstairs, everywhere we can feel the warmth. That warmth is because God is working intensely hard within us to make us healthy. This is what Simran does.
naanak tay jan sohnay jo ratay har rang laa-ay.
He says those who become imbued in my love, they are totally healthy and beautiful.
Dhaarnaa:
aj fir khol kay bahi ga-ee tayray khat puraanay
Today again, oh my Beloved, I sat down and opened up your old letters written to me.
ik ik tayra…lafaz vay…..Dhoo dil noo paavay
Every word of yours moves my heart.
kisay shahir muhabataaN day dee…..oh kathaa sunaavay
Every word of yours is describing the story of some city of ishq.
mayray nainee supnay khayd-day ko-ee jugaaN puraanay
I feel like the dreams I have been dreaming throughout the ages to meet my Beloved, those dreams have come alive in my eyes.
aj chhipday jaaNday….mayray…sab jag tikaanay
Wherever I used to become tied to, attached to, on the outside, all those attachments are disappearing and my consciousness is coming home to hear your utterances, oh my Beloved.
Dhaarnaa (end)
This note is from a very warm-hearted soul: that the arrows of your love have blessed me with the warmth within, the longing, and celebration. To explain that state is not only very difficult, but it is an insult to ishq. My insides are totally quiet even though the vibrations of love, with the gusts of His presence, are clapping and dancing and making me intoxicated.
How beautiful!
A soul who lives far from here; in the same state of the US, but far from here. They have written that nothing feels pleasing to me now. I only long for sangat, to remain in meditation in sangat, and I keep begging Him for the opportunity to do sangat. My inside becomes restless without sangat. Sangat is my father, mother, everything!
Tomorrow there is Amrit Sanchaar (nectar irrigation), following which there will be Khajana Darshan and right after that we will have an informal gathering where we all brothers, sisters, parents, children, will celebrate each other; celebrate this opportunity to be in the human body and to be blessed with the holy congregation.
Please feel Him at the forehead.
That river of ishq which He talks about runs upward. That river is He Himself. Let us feel that river between the eyebrows.
Dhaarnaa:
oHday ishq dee chanaa vag-dee……oHday ishq dee chanaa vag-dee
lahiraaN murh-murh chumman…..mainoo….khouray oHnaaN dee maiN kee lagdee
When we feel Him at the forehead, if we look closely, He touches us like a wave touches the seashore; like a wave kisses the seashore, the same way my Beloved has taken the form of waves of ishq and those waves keep kissing me over and over and over again. I wonder what’s my relationship to Him, he keeps kissing me!
