Dhan so raag surangrhay aalaapat sabh tikh jaa-ay.
Maharaj Ji sang all of His utterances in Raagaas, in different notes of the musical instrument. Raagaas are also sung based on the state of consciousness at a given time of the day.
rang means love, surang means ishq
aalaapat sabh tikh jaa-ay - by singing these raagaas, one’s inside becomes peaceful.
Maharaj Ji says so blessed, so beautiful, and so ishqful - full of ishq, are the notes in which He uttered His utterances. How beautiful, blessed are the musical notes in which our Beloved sang the songs of ishq, and by singing those, one becomes peaceful. How does this happen and what is its connection to rebirth?
When we sing this, Maharaj Ji will produce vibrations within us of different frequencies. Let us become very acutely attuned to feeling these vibrations within. Very focused consciousness is required to feel those vibrations.
Dhan so raag surangrhay (sing repeatedly)
Every word of Gurbani is alive and has power; different types of powers. The word raag (musical note) pulls our consciousness upwards.
raag….raag….raag……raag….. Meditation at 8:32
‘raa’ at the lowest point, ‘aa’ rising upward, and ‘ga’ in the throat.
Let it lift our consciousness upwards.
raag….raag….raag……raag…..
Please don’t hurry otherwise we won’t be able to witness what is happening. The mind does this. Mind wants us to get on auto mode quickly and then it can run somewhere else; please understand the mind’s scheme. If we do this slowly while staying fully awake, the mind cannot go anywhere. Mind is present, it is very clever and alert.
raag….raag….raag……raag…..
Dhan so raag surangrhay
rang means love, surang means pure love or ishq
surangrhay
Please feel that as we utter this word, it would create love in us.
surangrhay…….surangrhay……..surangrhay…….surangrhay…….. (sing slowly while feeling)
Dhan so raag surangrhay (continue singing slowly while feeling)
Please feel the insides very closely.
If we look closely, and if we are present enough, alert enough, then we would feel some power within, rising upward from down below, through the navel point, hirdaa throat, up to the top of the head, then it recedes backward and again the same.
Please keep feeling it.
In order to go through the rebirth, it is important to understand what is this whom we call the body? Since New York, we have been looking at what happens to the baby in the womb, how he comes out, how he is in a state of shock. Let’s refresh the dhaarnaa’s from the last couple days:
Dhaarnaa:
ansochee honee jadoN……vartee see naal mayray…..jioN parlo bhuchaal gi-aa aa
Last time, I sang that when that rubber-like baby enters his body, enters into the world, he had never ever thought or imagined this. For him, it was like the end of the world.
niklee see daadh aisee….jind jioN nikal jaanee….jinaa sunee kaday sakay naa bhulaa
Such an abrupt shriek, cry comes out of him that whosoever hears that cry can never forget it.
sadmaa see aisaa o-ho…haa-ay maa-ay mayree-ay nee…..jeeHnay aaNdraaN noo ditaa see kambaa
To enter into this world, leaving his mother’s womb where he was one with her, was the biggest shock of his life.
fir andaray hee andar….khayd ik vartee see…jeeHnay chup saanoo ditaa see karaa
When a child enters this world, he experiences such a shock that it shakes his insides. The little baby is scared and hears unfamiliar sounds. Then something happens within him and he calms down. What happens?
vadee saaree cheej ko-ee…… khayd-dee see mayray saNg…..jioN khi-aalaaN daa bhaNgoorhaa hundaa aa
When he is so frightened by the world outside, the Divine immediately appears and starts playing with him from the outside. The Divine is so tender, so gentle, so subtle; it feels like a cradle to the child. The child is not aware of the limits of his body but he feels a big thing is touching him, playing with him.
bilkul uNjh hee….jivayN kukh maa dee ch……vakhree nahee….ko-ee cheej saaN
When the Divine supports him, touches him, cradles him from the outside, the child feels the same way as if he is in his mother’s womb; that I’m not separate, I’m not alone.
Dhaarnaa (end)
What are raagaas? Last year, we covered this topic briefly in Surrey and then went to India. Let’s understand this clearly now. We say, we hear, we read about it that God is sitting in everyone, dwells within everyone. What does that mean? Does God sit and stand like us? This means that whatever the Divine creates, His power operates in His creation; His power has all those virtues that Maharaj Ji describes in Jaap Sahib; it cannot be described in one word. We use words like God and Divine but don’t really know what that means. He operates as vibrations within all of His creation, all the time. We know that when one object strikes another object, vibrations are produced which produces sound. Vibrations produce sound - this is known as aahat sound; aahat means to strike, sound that is generated as a result of one object striking another. Maharaj Ji says that the Divine operates as vibrations within and the sound that is produced because of those vibrations; He gives us that sound to speak; it is not aahat sound. It is not generated from one thing striking another. This is anaahat sound. Anhad Shabad also means the same as anaahat. At some places, He says anaahat, sometimes naad. God Himself generates this sound and not by striking another object. He is present in everything He has created and is operating as vibrations. Objects that we think are lifeless like chairs, sheets, He is operating as vibrations within those things as well. This is what is meant by God dwelling in His creation.
Everything that we can see or touch. For example, we cannot see air but we can feel it. God is operating as vibrations in everything that we can see or touch, and in everything He operates at different speeds. Due to this varying speed of vibrations, there are different sounds in His creation. All birds sound different, human beings sound different, cats have a different sound, dogs sound differently.
There is a letter that we started reading yesterday. Please remain focused within.
Baba Ji, if I hear any loud music or someone starts talking worldly things, my ears and my throat start feeling pressure inside, as if someone wants that I should not talk or listen to anything the other person is saying. My throat feels so much pressure that someone is pulling it backwards. It does not hurt, it’s just that I don’t want to talk and I don’t want to listen to that sound. Sometimes, Baba Ji, what happens is that the other person is talking and I am nodding my head but actually nothing gets into my brain and later I think - what were they saying?
In the 19th Pauri of Japji Sahib, Maharaj Ji told us:
akhree gi-aan geet gun gaah.
akhree likhan bolan baan.
akhraa sir sanjog vakhaan.
What is happening here? Maharaj Ji is telling us that you are living in the world of words; words you hear, words you speak, and words are within you. When he becomes merciful to us and there is a worldly talk near us or some loud noise, He saves us from that by making our ears closed to that sound and our throat closed to talking. How amazing! This is the purpose of reading letters; we learn that whatever Maharaj Ji says happens.
A very loving soul in B.C. has sent a few lines about his relationship with Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
tainoo vaykh jo mildaa ay…..das kivayN oh karaar likhaaN
Oh my Guru, Guru Granth Sahib Ji, when I look at You, the peace, the stillness I feel is unexplainable.
jis din milay saaN aseeN dovayN……das kivayN oh ti-o-haar likhaaN
How festive was the day when we first met each other! How fateful that day was!
(end of poem)
gharhee na muhat chasaa tis bin naa sarai.
gharhee is a measure of time equal to 24 minutes. muhat is two gharhee’s or 48 minutes, and chasaa is the time it takes to blink an eye.
Maharaj Ji says that we cannot survive with the Divine for a muhat; then He says no, we can’t even survive for a gharhee; then He says, no we can’t even survive for a chasaa, the time it takes to blink an eye, if He is not within us.
Think about it! We are alive because of Him; we cannot remain alive even for a moment without Him and yet, we do not give any importance to Him being the source of life. Please feel that from every pore of our body, electric vibrations are emanating.
Dhaarnaa:
vaylay…….amrit mathay see tooN lagi-aa…….mahik jihaa…….din langhi-aa
Oh my Beloved, you met me first thing in the morning, and my whole day passed like I was passing through a fragrance.
rihaa mahikdaa dihu daa tan see….din vichoN khouray yaar langhi-aa
The whole day remained so fragrant. Perhaps, You walked through the day; that was Your fragrance.
