ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
॥ ਜਪੁ॥
ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥
Dhi-aan, focus please.
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਤਿ ਰਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ॥
jis pat rakhai aap so bhavjal tarai.
Whomsoever the Divine becomes merciful to and saves their honor, they end up landing in the Divine’s court.
ਭਗਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਤਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
bhagat gi-aanee tapaa jis kirpaa karai.
He says the meditators, His devotees, His lovers, the people who come to know the truth, they are all beautiful, nice people but the difference is: upon whom He becomes merciful.
ਸੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਲੁ ਧਰੈ ॥
so pooraa parDhaan jis no bal Dharai.
He says whomsoever He becomes merciful to amongst all His devotees, lovers, He places His power in that person.
jisahi jaraa-ay aap so-ee ajar jarai.
He says My powers cannot be absorbed, cannot be tolerated. He makes a being able to tolerate that power.
What this really means is that the rare one receives His power but does not use those powers because he is egoless and the one who was going to use the powers is no more. For this state, Guru Nanak Dev Ji in His tenth appearance says:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਦੁਇ ਏਕ ਹੈ ਬਿਬ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
har har jan dhui ek hai bib bichaar kachh naeh ||
In His tenth appearance, Maharaj Ji says: that being (jan) and the Divine are one and there is absolutely no difference between the two. Vaday Baba Ji was one of those who received these blessings and became one with the Divine.
In His Fourth appearance, He says:
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਪਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤੁ ਚਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲੀ ॥
har kay sant japahu har japnaa har sant chalai har naalee.
He says, oh my dear saints, become such an aashiq of the Divine that you end up being Him; you lose your identity, you lose your ego.
har sant chalai har naalee.
He says, then a stage comes that you walk along the Divine. The Divine has a gait how He operates through His creation; then you also walk with that gait. We will talk more about this later what it means to walk with Him.
ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਹੋਏ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਕੇਲ ਕੇਲਾਲੀ ॥
jin har japi-aa say har ho-ay har mili-aa kayl kaylaalee.
A mother loves her child so much; she keeps taking the child’s name again and again in everything she talks about. He says one who calls upon the Divine with such love again and again - that is japnaa; one who does that ends up being Him. har means the one who is alive, ever-lasting, and is able to give life to others, because the Divine places powers in them.
har mili-aa kayl kaylaalee.
The Divine pampers them and coddles with them.
The nature of the world is that they accept what is common and find it difficult to accept something that is not common. In Punjab keeping unshorn hair and beard is common, and if you are outside Punjab then haircut is common. People accept whatever is normal and do not accept what is not normal. Because this happening is so uncommon that the Divine places His power in somebody, our mind does not believe this can happen even though Gurbaanee says this is the pinnacle of this path. It is so uncommon, that is why it is very difficult for us to accept.
Maharaj Ji says:
ਅੰਭੈ ਸੇਤੀ ਅੰਭੁ ਰਲਿਆ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਨਿਕਸਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
ambhai saytee ambh rali-aa bahurh na niksi-aa jaa-ay.
He says when one water is mixed with another water, they cannot be separated. For example, if water from a bucket is mixed with the water in the ocean, then it cannot be separated.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਲਤੁ ਹੈ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਲੋਕਾ ਆਇ ॥
naanak gurmukh chalat hai vaykhhu lokaa aa-ay.
Maharaj Ji says this is a miracle; God makes it happen. He says if you ask people that oh people, come and see, this being is the Divine!
ਲੋਕੁ ਕਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸੋਝੀ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
lok ke vaykhai bapurhaa jis no sojhee naahi.
Maharaj Ji says, what would these poor people see; they can’t recognize; they don’t have the subtle consciousness which can feel Him.
God gave me a total of 42 days with Vaday Baba Ji - first one week, then two weeks, and then three weeks. I felt like shouting and telling everyone about Him.
Dhaarnaa:
ਰੂਪ ਵਟਾ… ਸੀ ਆਇਆ….ਅਸਾਂ ਢੋਲਾ ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ
roop vataa…. see aa-i-aa……asaaN dholaa pachhaan li-aa
ਰੱਬ ਜਾਣੇ ਉਹ ਕੌਣ ਸਾਈ……ਰੱਬ ਜਾਣੇ ਉਹ ਕੌਣ ਸਾਈ
rab jaanay oh kaun saa-ee……rab jaanay oh kaun saa-ee

ਫਕੀਰੀਆਂ ਬਖਸ਼ ਗਿਆ….ਉੱਚਾ ਰੁਤਬਾ ਉਹਦਾ ਹਾਈ
fakeeree-aaN bakh-sh gi-aa…..uchaa rutbaa oHdaa haa-ee
He blessed people, the real lovers of God. His status was very high; He had the capacity to do that.
ਇਹ ਗੀਤ ਪਿਛਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ……ਇਹ ਗੀਤ ਪਿਛਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ
ih geet pichhaahaaN day…..ih geet pichhaahaaN day
I am sure this has not happened to Him just now. Only God knows since when He has been on the path to please His Beloved.
ਆਪ ਮਲਾਹ ਸੀ ਕੋਈ…ਜਾਂ ਯਾਰੀ ਨਾਲ ਮਲਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ
aap malaah see ko-ee…..jaaN yaaree naal malaahaaN day
I wonder if He Himself was the captain of the ship or the captain was His best friend that He could make others go across.
ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜਕੇ ਰੁਕਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ…….ਬਾਂਹ ਫੜਕੇ ਰੁਕਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ…….
baaNh farh-kay rukaanaaN dee…..baaNh farh-kay rukaanaaN dee
rukaan - means a beautiful, wise consciousness.
ਰੁੱਖਾਂ ਹੇਂਠ ਬੈਠ ਮਾਏ…….ਗੱਲ ਕਰੇ ਅਸਮਾਨਾਂ ਦੀ
rukhaaN hayth baith maa-ay…..gal karay asmaanaaN dee
He didn’t have any place. He would sit under the shades of trees in the summer on the roadside and those who were capable of hearing Him, He would talk to them about the Divine.
ਉਹ ਵਖਰਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸੀ…..ਉਹ ਵਖਰਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸੀ
oh vakhraa sabh toN see….oh vakhraa sabh toN see
He was unique. He wasn’t like anybody else.
ਵਾਂਗ ਕਮਲਿਆਂ ਵੇਂਦੀ ਰਹੀ……ਕੋਈ ਸੂਰਜ ਪਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੀ
vaaNg kamli-aaN vayNdee rahee….ko-ee sooraj parHaaN daa see
I would look at him like crazy people who are out of their minds. He was so unique; I would look at Him in wonder. I felt He was some sun but not the sun of this world but sun of another world; the sun who throws light on the path to another world.
ਅਸਾਂ ਜੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਹਿਣਾ……ਅਸਾਂ ਜੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਹਿਣਾ
asaaN jag noo kee kahinaa…..asaaN jag noo kee kahinaa
What is the point in telling the world?
In Sukhmani Sahib, in the first paurhee (stanza) of the first ashtpadee (section of eight stanzas) Maharaj Ji says:
kaaNkhee aykai daras tuhaaro.
naanak un sang mohi uDhaaro. ||1||
I can only be ferried across with your aashiq, one who has ishq with You. Please make me meet them.
Then, many times He says:
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਗਏ ਮਸਕਤਿ ਘਾਲਿ ॥
jinee naam Dhi-aa-i-aa ga-ay maskat ghaal.
ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਕੇਤੀ ਛੁਟੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
naanak tay mukh ujlay kaytee chhutee naal.
Those who meditate and become one with the Divine, others around them are also ferried across.
People in the world naively say they only believe in Guru Granth Sahib Ji and no one else. Maharaj Ji says:
ਲੋਕੁ ਕਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਬਪੁੜਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸੋਝੀ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
lok ke vaykhai bapurhaa jis no sojhee naahi.
He says, what would these poor people see; they can’t recognize; they don’t have the subtle consciousness which can feel Him.
So, we should not be disheartened. This is how the world is. Even when Guru Nanak Dev Ji walked this planet, people said beware, He leads people on the wrong path. Do you think they will spare us? Later on when He took a sword in His hand, they said, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was a true fakeer; how is this sword a part of fakeeree? So, this is the way of the world. We are not to wake them up. Avoid engaging with them because we need to reach somewhere.
ਅਸਾਂ ਜੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਹਿਣਾ……ਅਸਾਂ ਜੱਗ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਹਿਣਾ
asaaN jag noo kee kahinaa…..asaaN jag noo kee kahinaa
What is the point in telling the world?
ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਅੱਖ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ…..ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮੁੱਲ ਵੀ ਕੀ ਪਾਉਣਾ
jinaaN kol akh hee nahee…….oHnaaN mul vee kee paa-ounaa
They don’t have the subtle consciousness that can value the truth, that can recognize the truth.
