ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥
॥ ਜਪੁ॥
ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥
We are visiting the 22 noble souls who were blessed with a cot by Guru Nanak Dev Ji in His third appearance. One of the cots to spread the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji all around was blessed to Bhai Hindaal Ji. He was from the village Jandiaalaa, which is situated right on the GT road, between Amritsar Sahib and River Beas.
Bhai Hindal Ji used to do langar seva at Goindwaal Sahib. With immense devotion and respect, he would constantly recite the Waheguru Shabad while feeling the Divine within. Gradually, he started feeling the Divine light within and outside, and remained in the cave of Divine light all the time. Seeing his devotion and ishq with the Divine, Guru Amar Das Ji gave him the responsibility of a manjee (cot) to spread the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the area of Jandiaalaa. The Hindaal family served in the langar from the time of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the third appearance up to the time of Maharaj Ji in their fifth appearance.
When Guru Arjan Dev Ji (fifth appearance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji) was going to Taran Taaran Sahib from Amritsar, He spent a night in the village Jandiaalaa upon the request of Bhai Hindaal Ji. Since then, this village is known as Guru daa Jandiaalaa (Guru’s Jandiaalaa).
Bhai Hindal was a very devoted Sikh but until one becomes egoless the path remains slippery. After Guru Arjan Dev Ji, Bhai Hindaal started developing pride that Guru Sahib gives them a lot of love and regard. Later we will see how he tried to become the Guru himself.
jo ratay deedaar say-ee sach haak.
He says those who become imbued with the ishq of the Divine by continuously dwelling with Him reach the stage of truthfulness. By becoming completely imbued with your ishq, one finds oneself; then, no self remains, just You. The entire body becomes saturated with Him; from head to toe, nothing else remains, just Him! Please come at the hirdaa (heart area).
There is a letter in which the writer says:
When I become focused at the Hirda, the Divine comes there with great force, and starts moving there in a circular motion, and I feel that he is happy with me.
Please feel Him at the hirdaa.
Baba Ji, sometimes at the hirdaa, I feel waves of water; as if the body is immersed in water and waves of water are moving me from left to right and right to left.
Please see carefully - feel Him oscillating from left to right, and right to left. It is not our body that is oscillating, it’s Him. You will feel either that or please feel His presence as pressure or moving in a circular direction. Please keep the sacred word, Waheguru, in your consciousness.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਜੀਉ ॥
hiradhai har har har dhun upajee har japeeaai masatak bhaag jeeau ||
When the Divine walks there in the heart area then har, har, har har; left to right - har, right to left - har, or circular motion - har har har har. If thoughts are present then the consciousness is not free to feel His presence.
jo ratay deedaar say-ee sach haak.
ਜਿਨੀ ਜਾਤਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਕਿਉ ਲਭੈ ਤਿਨਾ ਖਾਕੁ ॥
jinee jaataa khasam ki-o labhai tinaa khaak.
Maharaj Ji says slowly you get to know the nature of the Divine; that He comes in our consciousness. Our insides are filled with consciousness. When we feel Him within, we are feeling Him in our consciousness, and the moment a thought enters into our consciousness, the Divine disappears. He says there is no room for Me because your consciousness now is occupied with thoughts. Slowly you get to know Him.
jaataa - means to know.
He says how to get the dust of the feet of those who get to know Him. It means that we should seek the dust of the feet of those who know Him.
Someone may say to us: I am here to receive the dust of your feet. But as we remain more and more with the Divine, or insides become pure; we will become scared if someone says that - dust of my feet! No! I am here to receive the dust of your feet.
ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਵੇਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਕੁ ॥
man mailaa vaykaar hovai sang paak.
He says the impure consciousness is purified by remaining in their company.
ratay isak khudaa-ay rang deedaar kay.
God is ishq; He does ishq with His creation. His utterances are in the language of ishq; they are songs of ishq. And to translate the songs of ishq in simple language, like I do; let’s sing a dhaarnaa about that:

ਤੇਰੇ ਬੋਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾ….ਤੇਰੇ ਬੋਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾ
tayray bolaaN noo bi-aan karnaa…..tayray bolaaN noo bi-aan karnaa
ਵੇ ਇੰਝ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਗੇ ਮਾਹੀਆ..ਜਿਉਂ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਦੀ ਤੌਹੀਨ ਕਰਨਾ
vay injh mainoo lagay maahee-aa….jioN ishq dee touheen karnaa
To describe your utterances in easy words, easy language, I feel it’s like insulting ishq. It’s like insulting ishq.

ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਵੇਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਕੁ ॥
man mailaa vaykaar hovai sang paak.
Remaining in the company of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the impure consciousness is purified.
Sometimes I get letters from you in which you state that games are being played with you, games of dishonesty. It’s sad, but one thing we should learn from that person is that we never ever fall to that lowness. We must always remain honest; always, no matter what. We must make honesty and hardwork our constant companions. If we do that, then every destination will start moving towards us. People who play games do not have brains to be honest. So, do not worry, God is on our side. He says:
ਜਾ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੈ ਵਲਿ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹਛੰਦਾ ॥
jaa too mayrai val hai taa ki-aa muhchhandaa.
Maharaj Ji says:
mayraa baid guroo govindaa.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਉਖਧੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਕਾਟੈ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫੰਧਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
har har naam a-ukhaDh mukh dayvai kaatai jam kee fanDhaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
My Guru is my physician. He gives me such a medicine that it transforms me from a mere mortal to immortal. It heals my wounded consciousness; takes me out of the cycle of birth and death.
ਐਸਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਲੋੜਿ ਲਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਵੰਞੈ ਰੋਗਾ ਘਾਣਿ ॥
aisaa daaroo lorh lahu jit vanjai rogaa ghaan.
Maharaj Ji says make that medicine a necessity; the medicine which destroys all kinds of diseases.
ਜਿਤੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਰੋਗ ਉਠਿਅਹਿ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥
jit daaroo rog uthi-ah tan sukh vasai aa-ay.
Make a necessity of that medicine which destroys your ego and makes you peaceful. The people who have ego, you would see them crying, complaining, feeling hurt. It’s not that they are hurt; their ego is hurt. And once the ego is gone, nothing can hurt. Actually, even when no one has hurt us, the ego wants to be distinguished, the ego wants recognition that I’m a special person, and if no one does that then you are going to be hurt. So we must become ego free as soon as possible.

ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਅ ਰਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ….ਵੈਦ ਕੋਲ ਚੱਲ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ
mayraa jee raajee nahee rahiNdaa…..vaid kol chal nee maa-ay
From previous deewan: Oh, my mother, my insides remain sad. Let us go to the Divine physician.
ਘਾਣ ਰੋਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਹ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੋ ਉਖਾੜੇ….ਐਸੀ ਦੇਵੇ ਔਸ਼ਧ ਮਾਏ
ghaan rogaaN daa oh jarhaaN to ukhaarhay…aisee dayvay aoushaDh maa-ay
ਜਿਤੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਰੋਗ ਉਠਿਅਹਿ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥ (Gurbaanee)
jit daaroo rog uthi-ah tan sukh vasai aa-ay.
ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ….ਸੁੱਖ ਆਣ ਵੱਸਦੇ…ਉਹ ਐਸਾ ਦੱਸੇ ਹੱਲ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ
jagHaa dukhaaN dee….sukh aan vasday….oh aisaa dasay hal nee maa-ay
Where the ego, the root of suffering, was dwelling, there came peace, humility, love.
ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਅ ਰਾਜੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ….ਵੈਦ ਕੋਲ ਚੱਲ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ

ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਵੇਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਕੁ ॥
man mailaa vaykaar hovai sang paak.
disai sachaa mahal khulai bharam taak.
Earlier Maharaj Ji told us that whosoever is imbued in His love, becomes truth, and even the ones with impure consciousness become purified in their company. Now He tells us how that happens. He says wheresoever we feel the Divine, may it be at the hirdaa, may it be at the forehead, or may it be at the top of the head, or may it be at the navel point; He says wherever we feel God, that is His court, that is His palace, His mansion. How beautiful! His presence is His court!
Please feel Him.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਲੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਧਾਕੁ ॥
jisahi dikhaalay mahal tis na milai Dhaak.
Maharaj Ji says whomsoever Maharaj Ji lets feel His presence, then the mind becomes powerless before that being.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਬਿੰਦਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਝਾਕੁ ॥
man tan ho-ay nihaal bindak nadar jhaak.
While dwelling with the Divine, when we feel like smiling, or smile or laughter arises within, that is the sign that Maharaj Ji is graceful to us.
Maharaj Ji says when you start having ishq with Him, your eyes will start crying.That’s the sign that you are being blessed with ishq.

ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅੱਖੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਰੋਣਾ ਤੱਦ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ……ਜਾਂ ਵਾਕਿਫ ਤੈਂਡੀਆਂ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਨੇ
iHnaaN akhee-aaN nay ronaa tad sikhi-aa…..jaaN vaakif taiNdee-aaN banee-aaN nay
My eyes learned to cry when they became acquainted with You.
ਮੌਸਮ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੰਝ….ਰਹੇ ਹੁਣ…..ਜਿਉਂ ਸਉਣ ਭਾਦੋਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਝੜੀਆਂ ਨੇ
mousam nainaaN daa injh…..rahay hun……jioN soun bhaadoN dee-aaN jharhee-aaN nay
And the weather of my eyes remains like the rainy season; they keep shedding tears out of love for You.
