Fear of God happens only when we have established a very strong relationship with Him; so strong that His presence is felt very strongly within; one only sees Him within, and a very small thing is left within that sees that I am nothing and this thing is so big. That small thing is the ego, and when it becomes so small it is frightened of God. The moment this small thing is about to die, our true self is revealed.
As we become more and more full of God within, something within us starts becoming smaller and smaller, and that’s ego - haumai. More God comes within, the smaller the ego becomes. When that ego is very small, it becomes frightened of God. God doesn’t scare it; His nature is not to scare, He is ishq. The ego itself gets frightened because it was false; it used to say I am, I am something important but now something happened within and it says I am nothing.
As our ego becomes smaller and smaller, it starts becoming more and more frightened by God. A moment comes when the ego is so small, that it is difficult to even feel it. We feel our whole insides full of God, and that’s when the ego is no more and at that very moment our true self stands before us, and you see it’s God!

Maharaj says these two things, lust and anger, make our insides tense, hard (kathor) - tense consciousness, hard consciousness, stony consciousness. Tense inside can neither cry nor laugh. You can notice that when anger comes we cannot laugh or cry. But our true self, our peaceful inside, laughs as well as cries.

Our true self laughs and cries. It doesn’t care for anything except the truth.
He says feel Me within. Please feel His presence at the navel point, moving around the navel point, while we remain stationary at that point.
man kathor sabad bhayd tooN
sabad bhayd - Let the presence of the Divine pierce through you. When we remain stationary at the navel point and feel the Divine presence all around us, we are surrendering ourselves to the Divine.
saaNt vasai man aa-ay.
He says, your hard insides will become relaxed.
Ji, these are just gestures. When we meditate at the navel point for longer periods of time, we will become peaceful; our insides will become very relaxed. Here, He has to make us understand so many things so we cannot experience everything in this one hour. Later on, we have to sit by ourselves, or in sangat, and meditate for longer periods of time. This is ishq. Can we just do ishq for one hour and not for the remaining 23 hours? It must not be ishq then! This path is about experiencing what He says.
saaNtee vich kaar kamaavnee saa khasam paa-ay thaa-ay.
He says if your insides are relaxed, peaceful, only then I will come. I like that that state of your
consciousness which is relaxed.
saa khasam paa-ay thaa-ay.
If you offer your relaxed consciousness to Me, then I will value it. I approve of that.
saaNtee vich kaar kamaavnee saa khasam paa-ay thaa-ay.
Please come within. If our focus is inside, the Divine will immediately strengthen His presence within us, vibrate faster, and produce heat within us. That heat kills the germs within us and makes our immune system stronger. The more lovingly we meditate, the more humble our consciousness is while meditating, the more pleasing it is to the Divine, and He comes within us more strongly. The more He comes within us, higher the vibrations and more heat is produced.
Yesterday, we understood that anger weakens our immune system very badly and meditation or the presence of God strengthens the immune system. Somebody asked, why does God strengthen the immune system? It’s a very interesting question!
System means a network, like we have a plumbing system or an electrical system in our homes. The immune system that fights diseases within us is a network. God Himself has very carefully established the immune system to protect, to shield His temple from any damage or demolition by the invaders (the diseases).
The question is: Why does God protect it?
Because the body is His Temple. The Divine dwells in this temple and so does our soul. God has ishq with our soul and He can only do ishq as long as the soul is in the body. Please understand this. God is in ishq with His creation. He has ishq with our soul and the house of our soul is our body, and He loves the very one who lives inside the body. He’s in ishq with our soul, not with our body. His only concern with the body is because the body is His Temple. Body is the place where He meets with someone who He’s in ishq with. He remains unattached to the body, but in ishq with soul. How amazing! This is why He created the immune system within us; so many fruits and vegetables strengthen the immune system so His ishq remains protected. The story of ishq is so beautiful!
Up to now, Western medicine has created medicines that cure the body but now this is changing. God has shown to the doctors; they have understood now that consciousness is closely connected to the body and is needed to cure the body. If there is negativity in the consciousness then the body will not become healthy. We can see that the person who believes that I am going to be well recovers quickly because the consciousness is positive (in charhdee kalaa). If there is negativity in the consciousness it is more challenging for that person to become healthy. Man has only understood this in recent times. In Japan, there is a Japan Holistic Medical Society where they cure the body’s diseases by including the consciousness - using meditation and positive attitude. Medicine is going to change within the 21st century. Man is understanding that the story is much deeper. A lot is going to happen.
The Divine created the child, brought him into this world, and put something within him to do ishq with. Think about it - would He ever leave the child alone, with whom He has ishq? When the child comes into the world, the Divine stays with Him, inside and out, shows him lights and makes him hear the Celestial Music.
There is a letter from a child who toured Europe and South America with the sangat. The writer says:
I check myself many times per day, to see if I am being kind enough, compassionate enough, loving enough. I get to constantly question myself, and my approach with others, and think can I be a little nicer or make someone’s day better than when they arrive. Baba Ji, I have become aware of a constant TV-like static in my ears, which is sometimes more prominent, especially if I focus on it or sit in a silent environment.
That’s the Anhad Shabad (Celestial Music). Please recognize the Celestial Music.
Dhaarnaa: (at 31:13)
From previous deewaan:
aakhayN taaN maiN baat paavaaN …..aj ik sajanaa vay……tay tooN…..rakheeN us baat daa naa
hundee-aaN see kutkutee-aaN….kaday saaday andraaN ch….tay udoN…haasaa jaaNdaa see saano aa
For the first two, or two and half weeks of a newly born child, he cannot see anything on the outside, he can hardly hear anything from the outside; God keeps his consciousness within. The child remains absorbed in watching the light show or sound show (Celestial Music), and a tender rhythm.
New line:
tay Dhunee at komal jihee…..dasanee nahee aa-ouN-dee maa-ay…..sadaa…..oHday naal ik-mik saaN
I was one with the inner lights, and I was one with the Celestial Music.
Dhaarnaa (end)
The Gurbaanee, His utterances, are comprised of three things. First is the song of truth, or songs of ishq, second is prayers, and third is gratitude. A prayer cannot come from insides that are hard and stubborn; prayer can only happen when the inside is pure, tender, and humble. These three things - truth, prayer, and gratitude, is the nature of our true self. Gurbaanee shows us our true self and once we see our true self, we see the Divine.
Songs of ishq, prayer, and gratitude - let’s see a shabad. Yesterday, we read:
ay man mayri-aa bin pa-urhee-aa mandar ki-o charhai raam.
Oh my mind, how would you climb up to the temple of the Divine without a ladder.
The temple of the Divine is up in the head. He (The Divine) stays with us but He puts our soul into the world once and says let’s see if you can find peace. About three days ago, I met a couple who became parents recently. They said, Baba Ji, we don’t want this child to go into the world. May he stay connected with the Divine so deeply that his eye won;t open towards the world. I said: the eye will open outwards for sure. That’s how the story takes place. He throws us out of the water and then He says: now find the water, find where you can be peaceful. Do you find peace in the sand of the world or somewhere else? Find it. That’s the story.
ay man mayri-aa bin bayrhee paar na ambrhai raam.
You cannot go to the other shore to meet your Beloved without a boat.
These are songs of ishq. The entire Gurbaanee is songs of ishq! These are not some dry facts about God and truth. These are songs of ishq! Nobody had sung these before. In some faiths, singing is prohibited; if someone sang, they would be ridiculed. Can it be a song if it is not sung? That would just be a story. It took all of you a long time to sing as well (laughter).
Songs of ishq! He says, your Beloved is on the other side of the river and you are on this side. What is the river? The river is the world, the mind. It has to cross so many things in the world to go across. One cannot walk, you have to swim.
paar saajan apaar pareetam gur sabad surat langhaava-ay.
Your Beloved is on the other side where the world is no more - there are no more desires of the mind; that’s where your Beloved dwells. He is infinite, boundless, and He is on the other side. How will you go there without a boat?
He says, you need a ladder and a boat. That is so strange! This seems like a challenging situation. Do we need a ladder or a boat (laughter)? He says you need both. Many western people tried to understand Gurbaanee but they gave up. They said it does not make sense (laughter). This is beyond sense. Ishq does not make sense.
paar saajan apaar pareetam gur sabad surat langhaava-ay.
The Guru ferries one across and the Guru is the one who takes us up the ladder. Please understand this. From the pubic bone to the navel point, a boat is needed. After that a ladder is needed to go up. We will talk more about this later.
We need a boat to get out of the blind well, to sail against the asur nadee (evil river).
Dhaarnaa:
naa suni-aa jadoN daa ishq tayraa…..mayraa ishq banan noo jee kardaa
Ever since I have heard that you are ishq, how deeply I long to be ishq!
Maharaj Ji says:
jau tau prem khelan kaa chaau ||
sir dhar talee galee meree aau ||
If you want to play the game of ishq, then leave your intelligence outside.
galee tayree ch’ saahibaa aan kay tay………..rakhaaN man charnee….mayraa jee kardaa
Oh, my Lord, I long to come into Your street and surrender my mind at Your Lotus Feet.
Make the street of love your home. What do we do? We go there but then we come out.
praym galee noo…..ghar banaa kay vay……khayd praym dee…..khaydan noo jee kardaa
Making the street of love my home, I long to play the game of love there.
Dhaarnaa (end)
We must understand this clearly that we cannot just come in a haste and start reciting Gurbaanee from the Gutkaa Sahib.
saaNtee vich kaar kamaavnee saa khasam paa-ay thaa-ay.
These are songs of ishq; we should sing these songs of ishq and fully spread our hearts in front of these songs so the arrows of ishq can hit us. Even if we have the slightest bit of anger, we are unpeaceful, then we are going to be devoid of such a precious treasure. We must be very awake at every step. He tells us how to live life. These are not some false promises that you will go to heaven after death. It is about discovering the true story now. We must win over anger.
man jeetai jag jeet.
When anger dies, there is something else that remains. You will become angry but it is completely fake. It has nothing in it; it’s just used to scare someone, even you will laugh at it. So, we must kill the anger and it is going to be killed by falling in love with Gurbaanee, His songs of ishq. All day long, our insides must keep singing some line of Gurbaanee. Gradually, the ishq is going to happen. Then, He is not going to let us forget. Kabeer Sahib says:
paachhai laago har firai kahat kabeer kabeer.
He says, now God is after me and keeps reminding me: you forgot to sing!
A letter came from California. The writer says that I was doing groceries; there were very few people in the store and I was singing. As I turned into the other aisle, another gentleman asked me: what were you singing? I said, I am singing that I love the Divine and I sing His songs. The gentlemen said: Your life is very colorful.
Dhaarnaa: (at 1:00:03)

ik vaaree has kay bulaa lai jeen jogi-aa vay……kih-rhaa tayraa rus ja-oo khudaa
Because when you smile at me, it means ishq will smile at me.
Please understand this dhaarnaa.
ishq dee mazaar nit…..Dho kay naal hanjhoo-aaN day……dayvaaN….aasaaN dee-aaN chaadraaN charhaa
Mazaar is a grave in which a body is buried. These people believe that one day God is going to resurrect this person; that God is going to send this person back to the world. The famous Taj Mahal was erected by Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his wife, Mumtaaz, who had passed away. The Taj Mahal was built on top of her grave.
When a big Peer (holy person) is buried, people keep their mazaar very clean; they bathe it everyday and some people put new covers on it, very beautiful covers, and wish that, oh Peer Sahib, please fulfill this desire of mine. So, this dhaarnaa says: I wash the grave of ishq within me, and put a beautiful cloth on it wishing that: please, oh ishq, look at me, smile at me.
