Ever since He started this play, it has always been Him only, it is Him only, and it is always going to be Him only. There is no me, you, them, this, that. The Truth - it’s not to believe, it is to discover, it is to experience. Maharaj Ji is not asking us to believe Him, He is asking us to test it. Your body is the laboratory. Test it within yourself whether it is the truth or falsehood; does this thing give me real peace, or does it make me feel good for some time and then becomes a reason for misery.

Blessed are these days of Purab. We are going to take advantage of each and every moment and reach the state how Maharaj Ji made us to be. So blessed are these days! This is when, in 1469 Guru Nanak Dev Ji descended on this Earth and He said in a loud voice, “Ik Oankaar”. We will talk about that later but it’s hidden in it. He traveled to all the main places of all religions - Vatican, Mecca, Gaya, holy places of Hindus and Jains and He proclaimed there is no Hindu, no Christian, no Buddhist, no Muslim - we are all His children to begin with and then as we travel the path to Truth, we come to realize that we are not even His children; it is all Him!

jai ghar keerat aakhee-ai kartay kaa ho-ay beechaaro

Maharaj Ji says come and sit, and please come to that state of your consciousness in which you would be capable of thinking about God, you would be capable of hearing about God; in which you would be capable of understanding the truth. You are so deeply engrossed in  own little world - four to five people, a house, a job, some friends, property; you have never been in that state.

Since morning, whatever types of thoughts we have been entertaining, we are in that state of consciousness. He says get out of that space. There is nothing but misery, anxiety, stress, insecurity there.

tit ghar gaavhu sohilaa sivrihu sirjanhaaro.

He says when you come into that state of consciousness, you will feel like singing. That is your natural state of consciousness, when you are out of your own self created false world. When you are out of that, only then you are in the state of consciousness in which God has created you; that state knows singing, it doesn’t know to talk. He says then the singing happens!

sivrihu - means stay there. Maharaj Ji says stay in the state of consciousness, away from your world which you have spent countless lives to build, and you have built such a net of bondages for yourself. The only way to get out of our so-called world is to withdraw our consciousness from that (our world) and make it focus on the present. That world always keeps us in dreams. You see one dream - oh this is done, there are a lot of dreams ahead.

In that state of consciousness, songs would arise from within you; you will naturally remember the Divine and Divine songs would arise within you. Meditation cannot be done, it happens to whomsoever it happens.

tum gaavhu mayray nirbha-o kaa sohilaa.

O’ my beloveds, come to that state of consciousness, your natural state of consciousness; remain in that state and singing would happen to you, meditation would happen to you, all the doors for the Divine to come will become open.

O’ my friends, sing His glory - whose glory? The glory of my fearless beloved.

Sohilaa means song of love. He says it’s natural for you to be in a loving state of consciousness. Remain in that state of consciousness and meditation will happen on its own.

Meditation at 19:30

tum gaavhu…….tum gaavhu……….tum gaavhu…….tum gaavhu………tum gaavhu

He says there are two ways. One is that if you are loving and humble enough, and you are not so engrossed in your own little world, then it is very easy to come into that state of consciousness. But if you are entrenched into your world, then start singing and gradually you will come out of it. We usually say, I don’t feel like singing. It’s not “I don’t feel like singing”, my mind cannot sing because its house is so low that it can never sing or come to know the glory of singing. Singing happens out of the heart (hirdaa) and the mind lives in the blind well. Can we expect our mind to sing? It’s our nature to sing; the whole creation is singing in their own way. All of His creation is laughing, dancing, singing in their own ways, and we are a part of His creation; only we are the unnatural part of His creation.

ha-o vaaree jit sohilai sadaa sukh ho-ay

I am ever a sacrifice to my Beloved who has created us so beautifully that the natural state of our consciousness is the state of singing His glories through which one remains in bliss. I am a sacrifice to this arrangement of His, to His blessing.

He had created you to remain in bliss but look at what you have done to yourself. Because you are so intelligent! And this is what happens to intelligent people - you have lost your innocence, you have lost your natural state, and now it is a life of misery. He says:

saaDho raam saran bisraamaa.

Come to my sanctuary and that’s where you can relax and rest. Not in your world, never!

aap ti-aag sarnee pavaaN mukh bolee mith-rhay vain.

He says get out of this craziness where we always remain self conscious, on the defensive, to protect our identity - this is me and I know everything. He says get out of that craziness. Ego is craziness; mind is crazy. Mind always keeps us in misery. Get out of that and then utter the sweetest words to your Beloved. Remain focused in the street of the present and then sing sweet words to Him. How beautiful!

aap ti-aag sarnee pavaaN mukh bolee mith-rhay vain.

He says, now are you ready to talk to your Beloved, to your Sweetheart? Whoever invented this word (sweetheart) cannot be for a worldly person; this word can only apply to the Divine - who is sweet to your heart, the Divine. Are you sweet enough to talk to your Sweetheart? Are your insides sweet enough so you can talk to Him directly.

mukh bolee mith-rhay vain…….mukh bolee mith-rhay vain……mukh bolee mith-rhay vain

If we are honest enough, for our own sake, then we would admit to Him that I really am not sweet, I am bitter, angry, full of stress, complaints, regrets; there is no place for sweetness within me. We would admit that I am unpeaceful. I cannot lay my head on the pillow at night and go to sleep peacefully.

Dhaarnaa: (at 33:57)

vay dinay chain nahee-oo aa-ouNdaa raatee…..neeNd nahee-o aa-ouNdee

O my beloved, throughout the day I remain unpeaceful, stressed, and at night I cannot go to sleep. This is my state.

Maharaj Ji says:

maan ti-aag kar bhagat thag-uree mohah saaDhoo mantai.

He says, get out of your ego, be humble. What are you egoistic about? What are you really proud of? What really is yours in this world? Your body, your land, your house, these people whom you call your family? What is really your own? Your own can only be the One who constantly dwells within you.

tujh bin kavan hamaaraa.

O my Beloved, who else can be mine except You! You are mine! You remain with me day and night, wherever I go. Even when I depart from this world, only You would be with me.

mohah saaDhoo mantai.

He says charm Him with devotion, charm Him with sweet words.

Dhaarnaa: (at 33:57)

aakhayN pi-aaraaN dee ghaat…..ki-oN nahee pi-aar manouNdee

You are telling me that I don’t have love in me, and you are questioning me: why aren’t you begging Him for ishq? Why are you always begging for worldly things?

vain mith-rhay-aaN naal ki-oN nahee thagadee tay mohNdee

Why don’t you charm Him with sweet words and truthful devotion?

vay taaHnay…. maaraaN aap noo… naalay……. jajbay jagouNdee

O my Beloved, I always complain to my false ego, and I ask myself: why have I accepted to live with the falsehood? Why don’t I invoke the true ishq within me?

vay dinay chain nahee-oo aa-ouNdaa raatee…..neeNd nahee-o aa-ouNdee

Dhaarnaa (end)

When the time allotted to us ends, whatever we have gained or lost until that time, we are responsible for that. To have a human body, human consciousness requires one to be the most responsible person - it’s the requirement! If we do not fulfill this requirement, then we will remain in the world created by our false self. We should see ourselves everyday. As our insides start becoming illuminated with the Truth, our consciousness will be pulled towards Him, we will want to remain alone and won’t feel like talking. If we cannot remain by ourselves, and always need someone to talk to, then we could keep coming to the sangat for millions of years but nothing would happen.

As we start becoming responsible towards the self, everything would start changing. Everything - what we eat, how we dress, whether we like to talk all the time or feel like staying with the self. Our natural state is to be like God, to remain immersed with the self which is all ishq and gratitude. We are just ishq and gratitude. If this sinks within us and makes us so restless that I won’t accept anything less than becoming my true self. We must not accept to remain with the false I. I wonder how He became so merciful upon us. He doesn’t need a reason; He is beyond reasons. He brought us towards His Lotus Feet, and took us out of the world from where only a brave person can escape. A weak person can never get out of his or her world - never! They are not strong enough; they need support all the time, but that is false support.

Please stay at the heart.

too sultaan kahaa ha-o mee-aa tayree kavan vadaa-ee.

We only laugh if there is a reason to laugh, if we hear a joke. We only feel good if we hear some news which is good for us or we eat a favorite dish. We need a reason to laugh. We need a reason to dance - say, a wedding. We need a reason to sing, even though our natural state is to sing, to dance within.

We have become so poor. He made us so rich - one who keeps laughing, one who doesn’t need anyone else, he is in bliss within himself or herself. We must come to that state of consciousness.

kit biDh purkhaa janam vataa-i-aa.

Siddhas, the most accomplished Sadhus in the world at that time, the first question they asked Guru Nanak Dev Ji was: What have you done that you are like this? Always laughing, joking, singing His glories, your insides are dancing, you make other insides dance, you make others come to the space of Truth effortlessly without doing anything, just your presence. What have you done to yourself?

Maharaj Ji tells the whole world how to reach our natural state of being. There, it’s all laughter, singing!

There is a story that during the second world war, a Jew in Germany wrote a poem criticizing Hitler very fiercely and sang that poem in public. The police came and took him. He had a daughter who was 8 years old. She asked her mother: why did they take my dad away? Because he wrote a poem criticizing Hitler and and sang that poem. The little girl said: but Hitler could have written a poem criticizing my dad and sang that poem. Her mother said he is not capable of writing a poem, he is not capable of singing otherwise he would not have been Hitler. Guru Nanak Dev Ji shows us how beautiful we are. We are the singing birds, laughing birds, loving birds - most humble. We are so beautiful! Unless humankind recognize themselves who they are, there can never be peace.

Dhaarnaa: (at 56:30)

dil tay kardaa bahot hee mayraa milnay aa-oun noo

I am longing so intensely to meet my true self but the state of my consciousness which can be seen from my face is not that.

mooNh hee ban-daa nahee ajay tainoo dikhaa-oun noo

mayray la-ee banay jo…..teer see…..vajay kalajay…hor nee

My Beloved’s utterances are arrows of love which He shoots towards me everyday. He has made those arrows to kill my ego but I am so adroit, so intelligent, I have always saved myself, and those arrows have hit others.  My intelligence - so wonderful! He shoots those arrows towards me but every time I save myself.

mayray la-ee banee-aaN raaHvaaN……chhad turdee rahee maiN hor nahee

He had created a path for me, within this body, to undertake the holy pilgrimage but I never walked that path. I have been walking the worldly path, just following the world like sheep. He had created a unique, special path of ishq, to travel on for me.

nee ghal kisay day hath sunayharhaa….oh raahaaN mana-oun noo

Because I did not value the inner path, the doors became shut for me. O my true self please send somebody who can tell me how to make those unhappy inner paths happy with me, so that they can open the doors.
