2658 - Khajana Darshan November 4, 2023 – Bulandpuri Sahib

ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

॥ ਜਪੁ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ। ॥  ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

To all the sangat who are converging here from all over the globe, I most humbly bow down before you, and plead to accept my heartfelt welcome.

Dhaarnaa:

ਆ ਨੀ ਧੀਏ…. ਰਾਣੀਏ…..ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਵਾਂ

aa nee Dhee-ay raanee-ay tayray sadkay jaavaaN

ਜਿਹੜਾ ਲੈਕੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਇਆ….ਉਹਨੂੰ ਖਿਨ-ਖਿਨ ਵਾਰਾਂ

jih-rhaa laikay tainoo aa-i-aa……ohnoo khin-khin vaaraaN

The very one who has brought you here, the one who is sitting in each and everyone of us, to that very one, I’m a sacrifice at every moment and what He is doing for us.

When Maharaj Ji asks us to do something, mostly we do not do it because we do not have a deep realization within us what He is saying. We hear the words but when we see beyond those words, we will realize what He is saying. If we only focus on the words, we would just read it like a worldly story.

ਜਿਨਿ ਏਹਿ ਲਿਖੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

jin ayhi likhay tis sir naahi.

Maharaj Ji is saying that no words can ever take birth who would be capable of talking about God or His creation; and we are part of His creation. He’s saying that I’m just giving you hints; you have to connect the hints, you have to go deep and find out what I mean by these hints - that is veechar.

Yesterday we read a line:

ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ॥

gun gaavah parabh agam thaakur kay gun gaa-ay rahay hairaan.

Time and again, He talks about singing. We have tried to understand it thousands of times. But, ask yourself honestly: do I really know what happens as a result of singing? We will scramble for an answer but we won’t really find anything. We cannot fathom the answers that Guru Nanak Dev Ji gives to the questions that emerge within us.  

Yesterday, a sangat gave me a note in which the question was how to please God. We would answer that to do good deeds, to serve others, to recognize God in others. These are just words. Let’s see what He says.

ਫੇਰਿ ਕਿ ਅਗੈ ਰਖੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਦਰਬਾਰੁ ॥

fayr ke agai rakhee-ai jit disai darbaar.

O my Beloved, what should I offer You that Your court becomes visible to me. Wherever we feel Him, that is His court. Court means where the king is present. The king can sit anywhere, and that’s where His court is.

ਮੁਹੌ ਕਿ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਬੋਲੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥

muhou ke bolan bolee-ai jit sun Dharay pi-aar.

How should my speech be, that You feel loving towards me? How beautiful!

He Himself first poses a question on our behalf, and then answers it.

The answer:

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

amrit vaylaa sach naa-o vadi-aa-ee veechaar.

Recognize His glory; do you see His glory? You will say, I don’t know about the glory but I know everything; there are trees, birds, animals and so on. Let’s laugh at ourselves. When we recognize how poor, how ignorant, how stupid I am; that my mind has given me this false understanding.

He says recognize His glory, and the enlightenment will dawn. Enlightenment will dawn upon you.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲਾ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

amrit vaylaa sach naa-o vadi-aa-ee veechaar.

Please recognize His answer in four words, where do they take us? He says just recognize His glory; that everything is amazement, everything is bewildering, everything is beyond your understanding. You will become amazed and once you become amazed, you would move away from your false self; you would forget about being selfish, self-conscious. When you forget yourself, only then I can make Myself feel you, only then you would be able to see My court. So, what is the answer? That there is no need to speak sweet words, just move away from your false self so that I can make you feel Myself.

Please understand this. Even if we understand one thing, it is going to set us on track. That one thing is going to become like a rocket, propelling us forward, and then more and more of Gurbaanee is going to be heard by us.

He says become amazed; you should be amazed at the surroundings, at His creation, and once you are amazed, only then you would move away from your false consciousness, false self. We are so badly occupied by our false senses, false identities, that it’s very difficult to stand up and say that I’m all act, I’m all false, there’s no trace of truth in me. The way I walk, the way I sit, the way I look, the way I talk, the way I behave is all false, learned and carefully executed. Please see how poor we have become. And who were we? Yesterday He said:

ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਹ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ਰਹੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ॥

gun gaavah parabh agam thaakur kay gun gaa-ay rahay hairaan.

He says when you start singing, you will move away from your false self, and I will reveal myself within you.

Please let us understand why we don’t sing, why we can’t sing. Because we have seen the singers in the world; they sing, and then they look at the audience to see if the audience is appreciating, enjoying their singing. The more the audience is nodding positively, the more the singer's I-ness becomes strong; that I am somebody. This is where the whole beauty is lost. Maharaj Ji says this is not that singing. He says this singing does not strengthen your false I, your ego; it makes you move away from your ego, and slowly and makes your ego weak, and one day makes you egoless.

There’s not a single page of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, in which He has not hinted directly or indirectly that sing, sing, sing. Spiritual singing has never happened before Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਖਿਨ ਦਾਨ ॥

jan naanak ka-o gur kirpaa Dhaaree har naam dee-o khin daan.

Please understand. Are we hearing?

He says I sing and remain in total amazement about His glory, and when I become amazed then instantly He puts himself into my arms, into my hands, into my bosom. Instantly! Because as soon as I move away from my false self, as soon as I forget myself, instantly He blesses me with His presence. All the time, we remain so conscious about who I am. Let’s throw this out please, throw this away and sing.

He says just forget about yourself; there is no you, silly, there is no you! Forget about yourself; just sing and you would feel who is. Can you feel yourself? No, because you are not. But you can feel the one who is.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਜਾਹਰਾ ॥

naanak kaa paatisaahu disai jaahraa.

Maharaj Ji says the Divine is obvious, everywhere. What are you looking for? What have you been looking for? It’s all Him! But you don’t have the eye.

Please understand the beauty of Japji in which He says that just forget about yourself, and in one instant, you would be able to meet God. Instantly! It’s not going to take lifetimes; right now, instantly!

Dhaarnaa:

ਸੁਣ ਅਰਜ ਨੀ ਵਾਏ…ਵੱਗਦੀਏ…..ਆ ਬੈਠ ਦਿਲੇ ਦੇ…. ਪਾਸ ਨੀ

sun araj nee vaa-ay….vagadee-ay…..aa baith dilay day…..paas nee

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸ ਜਪੁਜੀ ਦੀਏ…. ਮਹਿਰਮੇ…..ਉਹਦੀ ਧੜਕਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ…. ਬਾਤ ਨੀ

mainoo das Japjee dee-ay….mahiramay…..oHdee Dharhkan dee ko-ee…..baat nee

ਨੀ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਦਿਨ ਸੀ ਕਿਹੜਾ…. ਵੇਲੜਾ….. ਜਦੋਂ ਚਮਕੀ ਸਰਦਲ…… ਜੱਗ ਦੀ

nee kihrhaa din see kihrhaa….vaylarhaa……jadoN chamkee sardal…..jag dee

What was that day, and what was the time of the day when Japji became uttered for the first time. And you, the wind, you heard Japji; you felt His vibrations, you felt His glory, you felt His beauty, you felt His unimaginable song. What was that time when the door of the world was knocked by enlightenment? You knocked at the door of the world. What was that day? What was the time?

These things are not going to be understood here. Please, these things must hit somewhere deep within us so they keep us away from the false self, worries, and we remain amazed.

ਨੀ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਦਿਨ ਸੀ ਕਿਹੜਾ…. ਵੇਲੜਾ….. ਜਦੋਂ ਚਮਕੀ ਸਰਦਲ…… ਜੱਗ ਦੀ

nee kihrhaa din see kihrhaa….vaylarhaa……jadoN chamkee sardal…..jag dee 

What was the day, what was the time when you put a light on the door of the world.

Let us please feel the cloud which is created by the combined singing of our voices. Feel that cloud all around ourselves, and while singing let us please dissolve in that cloud becoming totally focused at that place where our body is sitting. Let us dissolve into that cloud, we will not feel the body. Let’s do it! Let’s become brave. We have had enough of the falsehood. The singing should happen with such intoxication.

ਨੀ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਦਿਨ ਸੀ ਕਿਹੜਾ…. ਵੇਲੜਾ….. ਜਦੋਂ ਚਮਕੀ ਸਰਦਲ…… ਜੱਗ ਦੀ

nee kihrhaa din see kihrhaa….vaylarhaa……jadoN chamkee sardal…..jag dee 

Please recognize how you feel in the tummy area. Do you feel relaxed? If anger and lust are present that area would be tight. If we feel relaxed, only then can we start the journey of recognizing that I am a song of ishq. I’m not a person, I’m not he or she, I’m a song of ishq. Then He would tell us what is the song of ishq. We are something so mysterious, and we cannot even imagine close to what we are.

ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੀਐ ॥

say vadbhaagee je tuDh Dhi-aa-iday jin satgur milee-ai.

He says whosoever the True Guru meets, they become so fortunate that they start remaining focused within, in the present, in the street of ishq. They remain focused.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਬਣੀਐ

satgur kee banee sat saroop hai gurbaanee banee-ai

He says those who get to know this secret; He says I’m giving the secret away how to recognize that you are a song of ishq. And the secret is to remain focused in the present because you can only know about yourself if you learn to remain in the present. Because only in the present can something be recognized.

He is telling us how beautiful we are. He says you are a song of ishq. But we don’t know what is song and what is ishq, so we don’t know who we are.

Dhaarnaa:

ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਗੀਤ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ......ਖੁਦ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਵੇ

zindagee daa geet haiN tooN….khud noo pachhaan vay

To become Gurbaanee, to recognize that I’m Gurbaanee, I’m a song of ishq, deep desire, hunger, and to go deep into meditation is necessary.

ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੈ ਦਾਤ ਕੇਹੀ......ਕੀ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚੀ ਮੁੱਚੀ

zindagee hai daat kay-hee ….kee haiN tooN sachee muchee

ਬਹਿ ਜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਕੋਲ…..ਤੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਵੇ

baih jaa mayray sahibaa kol….tay nashay noo pachhaan vay

ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਧਿਆਇਦੇ ਜਿਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੀਐ ॥

say vadbhaagee je tuDh Dhi-aa-iday jin satgur milee-ai.

Please understand this. When we start hearing Gurbaanee, Gurbaanee starts to enter within, we start feeling intoxicated, the consciousness is intoxicated, the Guru has come within. Guru is intoxication, the Divine is intoxication. Gurbaanee is intoxication, pure intoxication, holy intoxication. The intoxication cannot be seen, it can only be experienced. The words of Gurbaanee are not the intoxication; they are the wine; in them is the intoxication. But to reach that intoxication we have to be away from the self.

Can anybody feel intoxicated while we sing? That is pure intoxication, intoxication of God; God is intoxication.

ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੈ ਦਾਤ ਕੇਹੀ......ਕੀ ਹੈਂ ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚੀ ਮੁੱਚੀ

zindagee hai daat kay-hee ….kee haiN tooN sachee muchee

ਬਹਿ ਜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਕੋਲ…..ਤੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਵੇ

baih jaa mayray sahibaa kol….tay nashay noo pachhaan vay

Please understand: intoxication and amazement do the same thing. They make us move away from our self-consciousness. I repeat: intoxication and amazement do the same work. It takes us away, makes us move away from our false self, and that’s why He says remain amazed. Remain away from your false self, you would be relaxed, joyful, singing bird, beauty.

ਬਹਿ ਜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਕੋਲ…..ਤੇ ਨਸ਼ੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਛਾਣ ਵੇ

baih jaa mayray sahibaa kol….tay nashay noo pachhaan vay

When someone becomes the true self, when someone recognizes the true self, they recognize that they are intoxication; they are intoxication!

ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦੂਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤੂੰ ਹੈ ॥

so prabh door naahee prabh tooN hai

You are the intoxicant! Then that person recognizes that he is an intoxication, and whosoever comes in that person’s aura, if that person knows how to drink intoxication, that person will become intoxicated too. That’s the beauty of the sangat.

Now please we should make notes, so that we can start understanding the love song which is Gurbaanee, and we should start immediately, remaining as long as possible in the intoxicated state of consciousness. The moment we interact with others we will come back into the falsehood.

ਅਨੰਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਏ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ

anand bha-i-aa mayree maa-ay satguroo mai paa-i-aa.

anand means intoxication. He says the Guru is intoxication. We sing this everyday, now we have to start singing while remaining awake. How beautiful!  Oh my mother, I’m intoxicated. (Baba Ji laughs). There was laughter and cry mixed in this laughter. Laughter and cry, so beautiful! Laughter out of happiness, and cry out of what? Amazement; cry out of amazement.
