This is about how the Divine light, which descended on this earth in the holy body of Guru Nanak Dev Ji; how the Light chooses the next body host. So, all the people, all the disciples, all the Sikhs, who are thinking that they are capable of holding that Divine light, were tested. One by one, they were failing; some failing in humility, some failing in compassion for the world, and so on.

Baba Mohan Ji and Baba Mohri Ji, Bibi Daanee Ji and Bibi Bhaanee Ji were the four children of Guru Amar Das Ji - the third appearance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Because they lived with Maharaj Ji day and night, all of them meditated. We have already talked about Baba Mohan Ji and Baba Mohri Ji’s failing to qualify for holding the Divine light. Bibi Daanee Ji’s husband was Bhai Rama Ji. He used to meditate and also do some seva but he would make others notice that I meditate for these many hours, or I do paath for this much time. Maharaj Ji’s younger daughter, Bibi Bhaanee Ji’s husband was Bhai Jaythaa Ji. Bhai Jaythaa Ji was from village Baasarkay. He lost his father at a very young age and his mother brought the family to her parent’s village, Baasarkay. A very pious soul, he used to do a lot of seva. Their family was very poor; Guru Amar Das Ji asked him: come to Goindwal Sahib and do some work there. Later we will see how Bhai Jaythaa Ji and Bibi Daanee Ji get married but for now we are seeing who becomes the host for the Divine light after Guru Amar Das Ji and how. Bhai Jaythaa Ji, also known as Bhai Ram Das Ji was utterly humble, embodiment of simran meditation, seva, compassion, and his devotion was ishqful. He used to make a living by selling boiled grain to sangat, and would offer it free to sadhus and saints. Guru Amar Das Ji used to say that Bhai Rama Ji keeps an account of his meditation and Bhai Jaytha Ji’s devotion is ishqful, beyond any accounts. Now, all those Sikhs are being tested, who think they are capable of holding the Divine light.

One day, Maharaj Ji asked Bhai Rama Ji to build a platform for Him to sit on, and asked Bhai Jaythaa Ji to do the same but at a different place. Both of them built the platforms. Maharaj Ji inspected them and said these are crooked; demolish them and build again. When the built the platforms the second time, Maharaj Ji said they are crooked, all sides need to be straight, build them again. Third time around, Maharaj Ji again said this is crooked; look this side is not straight. Bhai Rama Ji said: Ji, the side is straight, it seems crooked to you. It cannot be more straight than this. Maharaj Ji kept silent. They went to Bhai Jaythaa Ji and said the same thing: Jaythaa Ji, this is crooked again. Bhai Jaythaa Ji said, Maharaj Ji I am a fool; I can;t even do this simple task. I cannot do anything on my own; it’s your nature to take care of your devotees; with your grace, please help make this platform straight. So, Bhai Rama Ji failed the test.

Let us please focus at the heart area, or at the forehead, or wherever you find it easy to focus in the street of ishq.

It’s all about: What is all of this? Who are we? How to recognize who we are? It’s all about us, about our very being. It’s not about others, it’s not about changing others, or transforming others; that’s what most of the world is busy doing. Maharaj Ji says transform yourself, and everything will become transformed.

The question of Siddhas was:

ਕਿਤੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਟਾਇਆ

kit biDh purkhaa janam vataa-i-aa.

They asked Maharaj Ji: how have you reached that state where you are; where you see that it’s all God, everything is God, everybody is God. So, this is pertaining to that too; how the play is happening. There is God - the ocean, and waves, bubbles, foam are coming and going.

The whole story is about how to live life. There is nothing more important than this. If we don’t even know who I am, and how to live life; we keep thinking let’s settle first, get married, buy a house and then I can find out who I am. Think about it! We do this; we laugh but we are the ones who do this. There’s no need to know yet who I am; I’m too young to know. What can be more important than this; if we understand and see things correctly. But the world has us so trapped, that we keep doing what the world does.

Maharaj Ji tells us not to care about the world.

mannai mag na chalai panth.

Maharaj Ji says: if you hear me and do what I ask you to do in order to recognize who you are, then you would not follow the world blindly.

bhagtaa kee chaal niraalee.

Your way, your path, your gait would be unique; your own authentic way of life - authentic gait, authentic walk, authentic talk, authentic ways; not learned from anybody or follow anybody.

Maharaj Ji is saying that the play, this creation, is being played at two levels. One is visible to the human eye, and the other level is not seen. Waves can be seen; we can see the ocean too, but the God-ocean is unseen. So, Maharaj Ji says that at one level there is something that is permanent; it’s known as the truth and the space is filled with the truth; it’s permanent but cannot be seen. At the other level, within the same space-ocean, waves, bubbles, foam are formed and then they disappear. Space is filled with God but He cannot be seen. God has become everything else as well - the waves; whether it is the trees, birds, humans, animals, air, water - and these can be seen.

Maharaj Ji is telling us that two functions are happening simultaneously. One is permanent existence, that is the Divine, the truth, which cannot be seen, and within that permanent existence, there is limited time existence that is seen.

Please hear what Maharaj Ji says:

ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਨਮੈ ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਰੈ

nah kichh janmai nah kichh marai.

aapan chalit aap hee karai.

Nothing is coming and going. It’s all His play. Nothing is dying, nothing is taking birth.

Please hear the next line:

ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਵਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਅਨਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ

aavan jaavan darisat an-darisat.

He says one is seeable, one is unseeable. The unseeable is permanent existence. Seeable is limited in existence; it keeps coming and going. A wave is formed and it merges back into the ocean. We are born from God, we are sitting in God, and the thing within us is going to merge back into space; it was neither born nor it died. It existed before putting on the garb of a body and it will exist even after leaving the body. If, after death, someone takes birth again, did he really die? How would he take birth again if he died?

Things are so beautifully arranged. Sun sets in the evening, it rises in the morning. Did the sun really set in the evening? If it were finished in the evening, then how come it reappeared the next morning? Nothing is coming and going. Nothing is dying or taking birth; just disappearing. When we say the sun has died here, it has taken birth on the other side of the earth.

If we die, then how come we can take birth again? If the sun sets, if the sun dies in the evening, then how can it rise the next morning again? Nothing is taking birth, nothing is dying. It is just seen and unseen; seen and unseen.

aagi-aakaaree Dhaaree sabh sarisat.

Maharaj Ji says it’s happening in His hukam, His command, that the earth keeps rotating and sun rises on one side and sets on the other side.

Siddhas asked Maharaj Ji: what happens to the soul when it leaves the body? Maharaj Ji says: in His command, the soul which is actually God, assumes human body, and in His command, that robe is shed and goes back into the source.

Dhaarnaa:

samaa ay jo aa-i-aa…..hai aj shaamaaN bankay……ay vaslaaN day chaavaaN…..naal bhari-aa pi-aa hai

We are here; we are in the present, and the present is full of opportunity to meet the unseen.

How strange! You cannot see God, but you can meet Him. You tell the world, and they would say don’t think I’m that foolish (Baba Ji laughs).

Worries, anxieties, insecurities - they are for the future; when we are not here. But when we are here, all those worries are taken away from us. Recognize that as soon as I move out of the present, I fall into the clutches of worries and insecurities, and when we are in the present, God takes all those anxieties, worries off of us. He takes all the worries away from us. He says give me all the worries; you just feel me. Let us celebrate life!

bhaar jih-rhaa disdaa nahee….. dooji-aaN dee akh noo…..ih bado badee…siroN saaday…laa-ouNdaa pi-aa ay

Forcefully, He is taking that burden of worries and insecurities off our head. Forcefully; He says give me that, give me! The weight, the burden I’m carrying, which no one else can see; the Divine takes that burden off me as soon as I come at His doorstep, which is in the present.

Dhaarnaa (end)

Please understand this. Two functions are happening simultaneously - one is seen and other is unseen. What is happening in that which is seen? How everything is God. Is man God, or is women God, is flower God, or is thorn God; how come everything is God?

Maharaj Ji says:

din meh rain rain meh dinee-ar usan seet biDh so-ee.

taa kee gat mit avar na jaanai gur bin samajh na ho-ee.

Maharaj Ji says night comes out of the day and day comes out of the night, heat comes out of the cold and cold comes out of the heat. He says, only those who have the True Guru will understand this because it’s the Guru who tells us about the play. If you don’t have a Guru, then how would you ever come to know?

There are two things - day and night. Let’s look back at today, this evening. It was day and then the sun set. Even after the sunset, daylight remained for some time. Then, the light kept diminishing more and more and it was about to disappear and the night was going to spread. Please grasp this point. No one in this world, not even a scientist, can say precisely that if the sun sets at 7:00 then the day finishes at 7:23. Because it is the day that becomes night. Do you understand? Either it can become day or it can become night. If you bring the sun, it will become day. If the sun is hidden, then it becomes night. The Guru tells us it cannot be said when the day finished and the night began or when the day arrived and the night went away. Both are merged into each other. Let’s understand this more.

purakh meh naar naar meh purkhaa boojhhu barahm gi-aanee.

purakh - male; naar - female

He says only those who are Brahm Gianee would understand, would know what I mean by this. He says there is female in the male, and there is male in the female. As we had looked back at the day and night, now let’s look back to when the foundation of life is laid. The first thing that happens is the appearance of the fetus. At that stage of the fetus, God can make a male or female. Doctors can tell you that only after a certain number of weeks, God starts to show whether He is making a male or a female. Both things are present here.

purakh meh naar naar meh purkhaa

What does this actually mean? It means that both cannot be separated. Day and night cannot be separated. Day and night can clearly be seen separately later on when it becomes pitch dark. Male and female can be clearly seen separate later on, but in the foundation, there is no separation, they both are one - the fetus contains both. God contains both - God contains day and night, God contains flower and thorn, God contains man and woman, God contains anger and love. God contains opposites. God contains everything! In God, there’s nothing separate. We all are within God, and within God nothing can be separated.

Everything is happening in the ocean: waves, bubbles, foam. They are inseparable. Everything is happening within God: waves, bubbles, foams, birds, animals, humans, all those. They are happening within God, and within Him, there is Oneness. Please understand the Oneness that we celebrate; what is Oneness? We’ll talk more about this. Please listen to this 2-3 times, understand it and see our existence - that it’s not me, it’s Him. He says, there is truth, there has been only truth, there is only truth, there shall be only truth. Then, are we something else other than God? It is not just to believe Him; we can see it. We are on the path of seeing how this game is.

We have been taught in schools that 2+2 = 4, this is how you turn the computer on/off, turn left here, turn right here. We are not asked to think; we are just expected to do as we are told. We are made into robots in schools and colleges. There is no need to think, just do what you are told. That’s why we don’t think. But Maharaj Ji says you have to ponder deeply over these things. We have become fake, like machines. We will sit in meditation. How long did you sit? For forty minutes. Dictated by the clock, a machine. Machines dictate us, not our insides.

Please ponder deeply about what I am going to do with this life, what am I going to use this for? It won’t work to just have an attitude of: we will see whatever happens.

What am I going to do with this life? Such an opportunity - the most wonderful creation, the most evolved consciousness, what am I going to use this for?

Dhaarnaa:

khat ik paa-i-aa see….tayree os umray nee…..tay aj ik….likhi-aa ee aa

jee karay supnaa….mubaarak salonaa ban…..baih jaaN tayray nainaaN vich aa

I wish I could become a dream - blessed, auspicious, fortunate; I wish I could become the most blessed dream with truly beautiful, mesmerizing features.

Maharaj Ji says:

jaag salonrhee-ay bolai gurbaanee raam.

Maharaj Ji says, your features are most mesmerizing, truly beautiful. He’s not talking about these outside features; these features change. He’s talking about our true self. He says your features, means your being, is most blessed, most fascinating, mesmerizing, truly beautiful, Truly beautiful means that don’t change - true!

jee karay supnaa….mubaarak salonaa ban…..baih jaaN tayray nainaaN …..vich aa

I wish I could become that most blessed, truly beautiful, mesmerizing dream and sit in your eyes, so that whenever you blink, or whenever you close your eyes, you can’t help but see that dream. That dream is your true self.

Please let us use time productively. Spend more and more time with the selves, becoming more and more peaceful, and love with the self. Mind loves the body; it decorates the body because it loves the body. God loves itself, and we are that. So, as we start moving towards the self, we start falling in love with the self. That is not the same as loving your body; the body is not there. It’s the real thing which we feel; we start falling in love with that, and that is the true self. The true self loves itself so much that it plays with itself. Ocean loves itself so much that it plays with itself by creating waves and all those. God loves Himself; can you imagine? Because He doesn’t find anybody else to love.
