ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ॥  ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਸਿਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਭਗਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਗਨਿਆ

hirday vasi-aa paarbarahm bhagtaa meh gani-aa.

Maharaj Ji says that in whose hirdaa the Divine starts dwelling continuously, or the person who starts dwelling with the Divine continuously at the hirdaa, Maharaj Ji calls him bhagat.

In America, there is a state in the south, a small state called Georgia. It’s a relatively poor, predominantly farming state. In that state, there is a small village called Plains, Georgia, where a peanut farmer was living; his name was Jimmy Carter. He was a regular church goer, God fearing, very beautiful, innocent soul. He dreamt of being the Governor of Georgia, which he succeeded in. Then, in 1976 he ran for the President of America and won the presidency. Even though there is plenty of staff at the White House, his wife, Rose Carter used to cook for the family herself. During his term, conflict with Iran arose but Mr. Carter did not want the war; he did not want people to die in wars. But Americans thought that it was their country’s dignity; they disapproved of President Carter’s stand and his ratings plummeted. I remember, I saw this on TV myself; reporters asked: Mr. President, the second term is just a few months away and your standing in the polls is very poor. Aren’t you worried, aren’t you concerned that people are not supporting you? He answered very gently, peacefully that I’m not concerned about what people think of me; I am very concerned about what God thinks of me. This statement can only come from a person who is blessed by the Divine.

We should also have the same attitude that nobody stays here forever. Do not worry about the vote of confidence from the world but worry about what God thinks of you. He trusted me and blessed me with a human body, human consciousness; we should make our decisions from that point of reference.  

Maharaj Ji is teaching us that nobody stays on this planet forever, and you do not die; you cannot die. The day we depart from here, the state of consciousness which we would end up having at that time, is going to remain. All of us would have to depart alone, so we should make sure that when I’m alone, I should be happy with myself - laughing, rejoicing, playing, singing, dancing, and one should not feel the need of somebody else. That’s what He is preparing us for. What a blessing!

We know that Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj Ji uttered the Aartee during His first appearance.

ਗਗਨ ਮੈ ਥਾਲੁ ਰਵਿ ਚੰਦੁ ਦੀਪਕ ਬਨੇ ਤਾਰਿਕਾ ਮੰਡਲ ਜਨਕ ਮੋਤੀ

gagan mai thaal rav chand deepak banay taarikaa mandal janak motee.

That the skies are like a tray, and sun and moon are two lamps in it - one for the day and for the night, and the tray is studded with stars like pearls.

What is Maharaj Ji really telling us? The Aartee opens the door to something so marvelous!

ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਨਮੈ ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਰੈ

nah kichh janmai nah kichh marai.

ਆਪਨ ਚਲਿਤੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰੈ

aapan chalit aap hee karai.

Maharaj Ji says all that is seeable is Him, revealing Himself in innumerable ways.

We need consciousness which appreciates this opportunity of being a human. We need a consciousness which is still, and capable of going deep into His utterances. We need the consciousness which starts recognizing that it’s all Him.

Dhaarnaa:

ਖ਼ਤ ਇੱਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੀ….ਤੇਰੀ ਓਸ ਉਮਰੇ ਨੀ….ਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਇਕ….. ਲਿੱਖਿਆ ਈ ਆ

khat ik paa-i-aa see….tayree os umray nee…..tay aj ik….likhi-aa ee aa

Yesterday, we read:

ਜੀਅ ਕਰੇ ਸੁੱਪਣਾ….ਮੁਬਾਰਕ ਸਲੋਨਾ ਬਣ….ਬਹਿ ਜਾਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੈਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ

jee karay supnaa….mubaarak salonaa ban…..baih jaaN tayray nainaaN vich aa

I wish I could become a dream, a most auspicious blessed dream, which shows you how truly beautiful, mesmerizing, and mysterious you are. Truly beautiful, mesmerizing, mysterious!

ਸਾਂਭ ਸਾਂਭ ਰੱਖਾਂ ਮੈਂ……ਦੋਵੇਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੀਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ……ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਾਂਝਣੇ ਦੇ…ਦੇਵਾਂ ਉਹਨਾ ਡਾਹ

saaNbh saaNbh rakhaaN maiN…..dovayN tayray deedi-aaN noo…..sanmukh raaNjhanay day…..dayvaaN oHnaa daaH

And when I sit in your eyes, I would take control of your eyes and make them stay in the presence of your Raanjhaa, your Beloved. I would keep your eyes from just looking aimlessly here and there; I’d keep them from doing that and make them sit and focus on your Beloved. I would place both of your eyes in front of your Beloved. Sanmukh means in the presence of.

Please feel the vibrations within; feel our insides vibrating; that is the Divine Himself.

ਸਚੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਧਾਰੀਅਨੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਿਰਜਿਓਨੁ ਜਹਾਨੁ

sachee kudrat Dhaaree-an sach sirji-on jahaan.

Maharaj Ji says true is Your creation because the truth dwells within that. True means something that doesn’t change, everlasting, and alive. But we might say that everything outside is changing. Maharaj Ji has used the word Dhaaree-an which means to dwell within or support. He says, You are dwelling within, Your presence is supporting Your creation - birds, trees and so on. Because the truth is dwelling within that’s why Your creation is true.

This is one way to look at it. On the other side, Maharaj Ji says:

ਕੂੜੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਪਰਜਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਸਭੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ

koorh raajaa koorh parjaa koorh sabh sansaar.

He says now look at what can be seen on the outside - it’s all false. The one that is sitting within, dwelling within, that cannot be seen, is true.

ਸਚੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਧਾਰੀਅਨੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਿਰਜਿਓਨੁ ਜਹਾਨੁ

sachee kudrat Dhaaree-an sach sirji-on jahaan.

True is His creation because He is dwelling in His creation. Because of His support, His presence, His creation is there - that’s why it’s true.

ਸਚਿ ਸਿਰਜਿਓਨੁ ਜਹਾਨੁ

sach sirji-on jahaan.

Truth has created the world.

This utterance, this statement, is so deep that I’m afraid you are going to go into it only so far and then come out of it; you would feel it’s too deep. It’s so interesting! See His creation; see what Maharaj Ji is showing us when he says gagan mai thaal.

There is an infinite curtain and on that curtain a movie is on. Movie means not still.

There is an infinite curtain called the skies, the space, which is the expanse of God Himself, and on that curtain countless actors are playing roles in the movie. Those countless actors are earths, suns, moons, stars, galaxies, and so on. Why are they actors? Because they are on the move; the earth is rotating, dancing around itself; the moon is dancing around the earth - see the movie! From those actors, some are removed and some new are introduced; some stars, suns, moons, earths are removed. So, the director of that movie is removing some of the actors; some of the suns, moons, because the moon is there because of the sun and when the sun dies, the moon will also die. This is just about this sun; there are countless of those. So He is removing some actors from the scene and introducing new ones.

Now let’s see beyond this.

Earth is an actor on that infinite screen - it can be seen from far away that it’s rotating, revolving, dancing. But when you look at it closely, you see there is another movie. What looked like an actor is another movie; it’s a screen of another movie. Earth is a screen and on that screen, another movie is running; whatever is on the Earth and happening on the Earth is the movie. So, all the big actors in the movie are also a screen for other movies.

Today, we’ll leave it here, and we’ll pick it up from here tomorrow because it is very deep. It requires deep focused consciousness to understand His play. Tomorrow we’ll pick up from here. The actors on the big screen, like suns and earths and all, are moving, dancing in circles. When you look at them closely, you’ll see that this is an actor but also a screen; and on that screen are running so many movies. Earth is another screen. I thought it was an actor; yes, she is an actor, but it’s another screen on which a huge movie - all of the creation is being played. We’ll start from here tomorrow. Kudrat (creation, nature) - Maharaj Ji is telling us about kudrat. He is showing us His creation, His nature from faraway.

Dhaarnaa:

ਕੰਨ…. ਕਰੀਂ ਲਾਲ ਵੇ ਸਮੇਂ….ਆਈ ਈ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ

kan….. kareeN laal vay samay…aa-ee ee fakeer 

Oh my precious one, give your ear to me. The time is here as a fakeer. Fakeers are those who are in search of the truth about this creation, and who, by knowing themselves, tell others the story of this play.

ਇਸ…..ਮਨ ਬਉਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਰਾ…..ਹੋਈਂ ਦਿਲਗੀਰ

is….. man bouray toN zaraa…..ho-eeN dilgeer

ਬਿਖੈ ਬਾਚੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਚੁ ਸਮਝੁ ਮਨ ਬਉਰਾ ਰੇ

bikhai baach har raach samajh man ba-uraa ray.

Maharaj Ji says your mind is crazy. You believe you are so wise, so intelligent, but I’m telling you, you are crazy. Your belief is something else, the truth is something else. It’s all God and you are saying this is “me”. To others also, you are saying this is not God, it’s this person or that person; your mind is crazy.

ਇਸ…..ਮਨ ਬਉਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਰਾ…..ਹੋਈਂ ਦਿਲਗੀਰ

is….. man bouray toN zaraa…..ho-eeN dilgeer

Please become sad, looking at how your mind is operating. Become sad, leave your mind, and come with me.

ਚੱਲ….. ਕੋਲ ਉਹਦੇ ਬਹੀਏ ਜਿਹੜੀ…..ਸੱਚ ਦੀ ਸਫੀਰ

chal…. kol oHday bahee-ay jiHrhee….. sach dee safeer

Safeer means ambassador.

Let’s sit beside the ambassador of the truth; the ambassador of God.

ਕੁਦਰਤ….. ਨਾ ਓਸ ਦਾ……ਉਹ ਹੈ…. ਪੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਪੀਰ

kudrat….naa os daa…..oh hai…. peeraaN dee vee peer

All prophets talked about the nature of God - He is merciful, He is compassionate, He is forgiving; they talked about how God is. No one can say who God is; Maharaj Ji says akath kahaanee - that cannot be described. His nature has everything - flower, thorn, day, night, male, female, sun, shade, everything! His creation is His ambassador which is showing the world how the truth is -  not who is the truth, but how the truth is. 

His creation tells us about Him; not who He is but how He is like. We can say that a person is very kind, very loving, very true, very compassionate - this is how they are. But who is that person - that is a different thing. So, nature, the creation, is telling us how God is. In His first appearance, Guru Nanak Dev Ji talks about kudrat - nature, so much:

ਤੇਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਤੂਹੈ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਅਉਰੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਜਾਣੈ

tayree kudrat toohai jaaneh a-or na doojaa jaanai.

ਦੇਖੁ ਫੂਲ ਫੂਲ ਫੂਲੇ

daykh fool fool foolay.

ਕੁਦਰਤ….. ਨਾ ਓਸ ਦਾ……ਉਹ ਹੈ…. ਪੀਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਪੀਰ

kudrat….naa os daa…..oh hai…. peeraaN dee vee peer

Creation is the name of His ambassador; it is the prophet of prophets because all prophets talked about how God is, or what His creation is. Guru Nanak Dev Ji said that no word can be said about who God is; He’s beyond words.

ਕੰਨ…. ਕਰੀਂ ਲਾਲ ਵੇ ਸਮੇਂ….ਆਈ ਈ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ

kan….. kareeN laal vay samay…aa-ee ee fakeer

Dhaarnaa (end)

ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਨਮੈ ਨਹ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਰੈ

nah kichh janmai nah kichh marai.

Nothing is being born, nothing is dying.

ਆਪਨ ਚਲਿਤੁ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਕਰੈ

aapan chalit aap hee karai.

This is a movie. Chalit is a movie. It’s a movie and He is the only actor but He is playing innumerable parts. And it’s not just one movie, there’s movie upon movie, upon movie, upon movie, upon movie - we’ll see that. Our life is a movie, it’s not still, it’s moving towards its end. As every movie moves towards its end, so this movie is also moving towards its end.

ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਵਨੁ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਅਨਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ

aavan jaavan darisat an-darisat.

It’s just Him who is coming and going; just playing. Coming and going - means what? He comes on the stage, plays a role, and then goes at the back of the stage, comes back again, and plays another role (Baba Ji laughs).

Dhaarnaa:

What a song Gurbani is! That’s why Maharaj Ji says - sing, sing, sing!

ਕੀਹਦੀ ਏ ਅਵਾਜ…..ਤੇ ਰਬਾਬ ਹੈ ਗਾਉਂਦੀ

keeHdee ay avaaj….tay rabaab hai gaa-ouNdee

Whose voice is this? Whose voice and this string music are singing together?

Maharaj Ji always kept Mardana with Him, and whenever the Divine song descended, Maharaj Ji would say: Mardana, pick up the string music and make the air dance with it, make the atmosphere dance with it, because God is going to sing.

ਕੀਹਦੀ ਏ ਅਵਾਜ…..ਤੇ ਰਬਾਬ ਹੈ ਗਾਉਂਦੀ……ਜੀਹਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਜੋਗਣ……ਬਣਨਾ ਹਾਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ

keeHdee ay avaaj….tay rabaab hai gaa-ouNdee…..jeeHnoo sun jogan…..bananaa haaN chaahuNdee

Whose voice is it? Whose string music? Who is playing the string music and who is singing? Hearing this I want to become His jogan, His disciple, His seeker.
