ੴ ਸਤਿਨਾਮ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ॥

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ॥ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹੋਸੀ ਭੀ ਸਚੁ॥

ਸਫਲਿਉ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਸੁਹਾਵੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਫਲ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾ ॥

safli-o birakh suhaavrhaa har safal amritaa.

Maharaj Ji says a human is the most beautiful fruit tree.

Maharaj Ji says it’s a very rare phenomena that somebody gets hit with any loving statement of truths called Gurbani. It’s a rare phenomena and whosoever gets hit, they become totally different people right away; the direction of their life becomes very clear.

Gurbani tells us how to live human life in such a way that we can realize our potential. If any utterance of Gurbani gets heard, it touches a nerve in us and fills the vacuum in our lives.

ਸੋਚੈ ਸੋਚਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਜੇ ਸੋਚੀ ਲਖ ਵਾਰ ॥

sochai soch na hova-ee jay sochee lakh vaar.

ਭੁਖਿਆ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਉਤਰੀ ਜੇ ਬੰਨਾ ਪੁਰੀਆ ਭਾਰ ॥

bhukhi-aa bhukh na utree jay bannaa puree-aa bhaar.

We always remain thirsty, hungry, wanting, never satisfied, always worried, always tense, fearful, frightened, insecure; that vacuum becomes filled with these negative things. If we can hear Gurbani, if we can most alertly, attentively, listen to Him, His words fill the vacuum in us. We see that every utterance of His is an invitation to come within, every utterance lovingly offers to hold our hand and take us inside. We transform completely, and our relationships with others, which were so fragile, become so beautiful. We turn out to be our real self, the fakeness goes away, and we become real, just how He had made us - fulfilled, content, happy

The other day a youth was telling me that this is the first time he is experiencing the beauty of awakening, as if he is seeing everything for the first time. The first time, he is seeing a tree; the first time he is seeing the skies, the first time he is seeing the road, the first time he is seeing the people. Everything looks so fresh, so pure, so happy, and so alive! He said it’s unbelievable, I can’t explain it and nobody would understand it; and that’s the truth. We start seeing His real world and suddenly we find ourselves liberated from our own small miserable worlds.

We start recognizing the beauty of each and everything, each and every person; not the beuaty that is skin deep, but the real beauty. Real beauty is because of the presence of some mysterious being, mysterious power, something so huge! We start recognizing that, with His grace, as we are shedding the falsehood, ego, we start emerging as unimaginable beauty.

We waste so much time, so much energy, so many resources in just having futile thoughts while God desires that we enjoy His company, His beauty, His glory.

ਕਿਵ ਸਚਿਆਰਾ ਹੋਈਐ ਕਿਵ ਕੂੜੈ ਤੁਟੈ ਪਾਲਿ ॥

kiv sachi-aaraa ho-ee-ai kiv koorhai tutai paal.

ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਚਲਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

hukam rajaa-ee chalnaa naanak likhi-aa naal.

Maharaj Ji says that in order to recognize who we are, we should come under His command, surrender to Him, and live as He desires. To come under His command means to surrender to Him. To keep hair - this is all it’s about, to surrender to His will. This is His will, this is how He created me. That’s all there is to it, that I surrender to Him. Many times I have heard that there are so many books written about how to surrender, and so on. Those books are just to make money. Had they surrendered they wouldn’t have written any books themselves (Baba Ji laughs). The story is totally different. To keep hair means that I love You, I surrender to You. This is how You have created me, with beard on my face and kesh (hair) on my head and on the body. This is your will. Just imagine how life can jump from where to where in a second if we are brave enough, if we are humble enough to beg Him that we can listen to any of His utterance and then surrender to Him. Instantly in a second, the way of life can change!

ਸਫਲਿਉ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਸੁਹਾਵੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਫਲ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾ ॥

safli-o birakh suhaavrhaa har safal amritaa.

Human body is the most beautiful fruit tree, which bears fruit. Which fruit? The fruit on this tree is the Divine himself. How beautiful! The fruit on this tree is God Himself. Imagine! If we can hear it!

ਸਫਲਿਉ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਸੁਹਾਵੜਾ ਹਰਿ ਸਫਲ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾ ॥

safli-o birakh suhaavrhaa har safal amritaa.

Oh, my dear friend, have you heard Him? He is saying that this body of yours is the most beautiful tree which bears the invaluable fruit called the Divine, which makes you everlasting, which makes you truth. It takes the ego away from you, makes you everlasting and blissful. This tree bears fruit called the Divine and if you ever eat that fruit, drink that fruit, you will become immortal, blissful, truth, alive.

ਮਨੁ ਲੋਚੈ ਉਨੑ ਮਿਲਣ ਕਉ ਕਿਉ ਵੰਞੈ ਘਿਤਾ ॥

man lochai unH milan ka-o ki-o vanjai ghitaa.

Maharaj Ji says to whomever this becomes listened, then his or her insides wake up and long so intensely for that fruit! That’s not going to be the longing that lasts for a moment and disappears the next moment. That’s not listening!

ਕਿਉ ਵੰਞੈ ਘਿਤਾ ॥

ki-o vanjai ghitaa.

Then that person starts going after how to reach or attain that fruit, how the separation can be ended? How can my separation from the fruit of this tree be ended?

ਓਹੁ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਜੀਅ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਖੋਲੑੈ ਭਿਤਾ ॥

oh pi-aaraa jee-a kaa jo kholHai bhitaa.

I would love that person with all my being who opens the door for me to go inside to that fruit. When we are focusing, we are at the door, He is opening the door. Please hear this. I would love that person with all my being, with my soul and heart, if somebody opens the door for me.

ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੀ ਤੁਸਾੜੀਆ ਮੈ ਦਸਿਹੁ ਮਿਤਾ ॥

sayvaa karee tusaarhee-aa mai dasihu mitaa.

Whosoever takes me to my Beloved, I would serve that being forever. I would serve that being all my life if they can take me to my Beloved. Only the ones who have deep thirst for Him, only they can listen to these utterances, otherwise to all others it doesn’t mean anything. If someone is so thirsty that he is dying without water, and if somebody says I have water, that person would jump to receive. But if you are not thirsty, the person can keep saying I have lots of water, it wouldn’t mean anything. It’s not that we are not thirsty, we are asleep! Our ego is so dense it doesn’t let us listen to Him. It’s so dense!

ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵੰਞਾ ਵਾਰਣੈ ਬਲੇ ਬਲਿ ਕਿਤਾ ॥

kurbaanee vanjaa vaarnai balay bal kitaa.

I am going to be ever sacrifice to the one who opens the door for me and takes me to my Beloved.

We read and hear Gurbani every day. We should see if it gets heard.

ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵੰਞਾ ਵਾਰਣੈ ਬਲੇ ਬਲਿ ਕਿਤਾ ॥

kurbaanee vanjaa vaarnai balay bal kitaa.

And then someone in the sangat says:

ਦਸਨਿ ਸੰਤ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਲਾਇ ਚਿਤਾ ॥

dasan sant pi-aari-aa sunhu laa-ay chitaa.

Oh my dear friend, that Saint would tell you, that Saint would open the door for you, that Saint will take you to Him. Which Saint? The one who is sitting on the throne.

Will He tell me?

Yes!

Will He open the door for me?

Of course, He will open the door for you.

Will He take me to my Beloved?

Of course! But only if you can listen.

He will tell you, it’s not that He won’t tell you, but you will not listen to what he’s going to tell you. Not that you are not going to like that; you would only listen if you are that thirsty. He tells the whole world but does the whole world go with Him? No, because they can’t listen.

I am sure He will be heard by you because you are really thirsty.

Dhaarnaa:

ਸੁਣਿਐ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ…ਕੀ ਹੈ ਨੀ ਮਾਏ…ਕਿ ਦਿੱਲ ਹੀ ਸਾਡਾ…. ਇਹ ਹਰ ਲੈ ਗਿਆ ਏ

suni-ai lafaz vich….kee hai nee maa-ay…..ki dil hee saadaa…..ih har lai gi-aa hai

Oh, my mother, the first time I am listening the word suni-ai. The first time I am trying to understand that a rare person becomes capable of listening to the Divine.

Anybody who comes to know the secret of listening; by becoming and remaining stationed at the heart area, that’s where the secret is revealed to us.

ਸੋਹਿਲੇ ਸੱਜਣ ਦੇ….ਨਾਲ ਘਰ ਇਹਦਾ ਭਰਿਆ…..ਖੌਰੇ ਇਹਦਾ ਉਹਦਾ ਰਿਸ਼ਤਾ ਕੇਹਾ ਹੈ

sohilay sajan day….naal ghar ihdaa bhari-aa….khouray iHdaa oHdaa rish-taa kayhaa hai

The word suni-ai - if anybody comes to know the secret of how to listen to Him, then he would recognize that this word is the door to the invaluable, joyous songs of the true friend. I don’t know what’s the relationship of the word suni-ai with my Beloved.

We should ponder over these things.

ਸਚਾ ਘਰੁ ਸਚੜੈ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਖਰਾ ਸਚਿਆਰੋਵਾ ॥

sachaa ghar sachrhai sayvee-ai sach kharaa sachi-aarovaa.

He says whenever people celebrate, they decorate their houses with lights and sing songs and have delicious foods. I have a house for you within, where the lights of all seven colors are playing continuously, and the song of ishq keeps playing all the time (the Celestial Music), and there is unbelievably delicious food for you - that is God himself. How come you have become satisfied with your living outside with no home? How have you accepted this way of living which is so poor, so empty?

ਬਾਬਾ ਆਵਹੁ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਗਲਿ ਮਿਲਹ ਮਿਲਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਦੇਹ ਆਸੀਸਾ ਹੇ ॥

baabaa aavhu bhaa-eeho gal milah mil mil dayh aaseesaa hay.

Maharaj Ji says, oh my brothers come and let us embrace each other. How beautiful. Oh my brothers, dear brothers, come let us embrace each other and let us bless each other that may you meet your Beloved.

ਮਿਲਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਦੇਹ ਆਸੀਸਾ ਹੇ ॥

mil mil dayh aaseesaa hay.

Let us bless each other that we may be united with Him. Let us wake up please, wake up!

Dhaarnaa:

ਵੇ ਦਿਲ ਬਾਗੀਂ ਆ ਸੱਜਣਾ

vay dil baageeN aa sajnaa

Oh my Beloved, please come at the garden of my heart, the hirdaa. The Guru has told me that You come there to receive the one who has been longing for you. The Guru has told me that those who are dying without their Beloved, that You come to receive them at the heart area. How merciful You are! You leave your throne - You, the creator of the universe, the sustainer of the universe, whose kingdom is so infinite!

Only if we can see His Ishq for us, recognize what an arrangement it is, and see who we are, so absorbed in our ego that nothing is heard.

ਨਾਲ ਆਉਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਇਸ਼ਕ ਹਵਾਵਾਂ, ਵੇ ਦਿਲ ਬਾਗੀਂ ਆ ਸੱਜਣਾ

naal a-oun tayray ishq havaavaaN, vay dil baageeN aa sajnaa

ਵੇ ਮਿਲਕੇ ਕੰਠ ਸਹੰਸਰ ਨੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ

vay milkay kaNth sahansar nay gaa-ouNday

Oh my Beloved, see thousands of your lovers are singing songs of your glory.

ਇੱਕ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਣ ਅਸੀਸਾਂ…..ਨਾਲੇ ਤੇਲ ਦੁਆਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ

ik doojay noo dayn aseesaaN…..naalay tayl du-aavaaN daa paa-ouNday

They’re blessing each other. Thousands of Your lovers are singing together, they are blessing each other and they are waiting at the door from where You are going to enter.

ਸੰਬਤਿ ਸਾਹਾ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਤੇਲੁ ॥

sambat saahaa likhi-aa mil kar paavhu tayl.

ਦੇਹੁ ਸਜਣ ਅਸੀਸੜੀਆ ਜਿਉ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਲੁ ॥

dayh sajan aseesrhee-aa ji-o hovai saahib si-o mayl.

Maharaj Ji is telling us and please we must do this; every time we are in the holy congregation, bless the whole sangat, that oh my dear ones, may you all be blessed with the union of your Beloved. Once when we enter into His court and then again when we do the prayer of thanks at the end of the deewan. Every evening, let us please bless each other; this is His command.

He commands only those whom He loves; He does not command everyone. When He loves you so much and blesses you with Amrit, He says now you cannot kill my children and eat their meat, you cannot make your consciousness impure with intoxicants. First He gives us a choice; He says it’s up to you, and then He says don’t do that.
